Jim we play this song every chance we get in our two piece band we just played it at our local Legion on Friday and I am lucky enough that my band mate plays harp which adds so much to it. I love all the back story I had no idea and it gives me a whole new take on it sure must have been a magical day when you guys recorded it. Thanks Brother for all the beautiful music you have moved millions of hearts no doubt :-)

Jim!! This was the first song ever, that I chose to be my first song to learn on acoustic guitar, while actually teaching myself guitar. What an amazing song and you sang it magnificently. What is the chance I could sit with you and do this song but I sing and play guitar with you and you do harmonies???? NO chance eh??? Lol. I will pay you!!!! :)

I used to sing this song at karaoke in Charlottetown; an acquaintance asked if we could do a duet another week, so we traded verses, and I did Greg's part in the chorus. Funny how dated it is ( 30 years last summer? ) with 'calling you up from a restaurant round the bend" or "didn't have your number in my hand."

My 11th grade year I took a short road trip a few hours away with an Uncle who was delivering some tires down to the South Shore of Nova Scotia. A few weeks before, I had a rough falling out with a girl I dated briefly. On the way back we stopped for supper at a truck-stop just outside of the town she had just moved to a few months before. I tried to reach her twice and didn't get an answer. I left a couple of messages wanting to make things right. I said something similar to the opening line of this song without having heard it. When I did hear it, it struck me deeply. Felt like those words Jim sang were written for the very situation. That is one of the most endearing qualities about the Blue Rodeo catalog. Everyone can find a piece that they might feel could have been written for them.

Why Jim is ONLY talking? He should play it again stripped down w/ only one voice/harp and guitar;)))
