28:18 really hit home. I experienced this at my former workplace with the CFO - he had a lot of authority but was not a leader. In fact he spent most of his time orchestrating the breakdown of teams under his authority in the meantime claiming the prize for the overall performance of the function & collecting the largest bonuses. It gave me too much stress I'm glad I left. But I forgave him because I realized it must have been God's way of teaching me how not to be a leader. I now have my own company and leveraging on that experience.

I love listening to his talks, because. I together so much from it. Many talks out there are blurbs, none factual, one side analysis. He talks like "he's looking at a box from multiple angles, seeing it differently from each side", non-judge mental, just factual. He's a visionary, well-informed in politics, economy & subjects that concern us all. Effective in every way.

Unfortunately thats not how the world we live in right now..it suppose to work as how Simon said but the ‘bosses’ afraid to run it that way..
@MrOnlineGuides3 жыл бұрын
Not sure if any managers are reading this, but exactly what simon said is true. in a few places I work, the staff work better when the boss is away. Sometimes the boss dictates WHAT needs doing, HOW it is done, and even how you walk, stand, and may blow up in peoples faces if there is the slightest deviation. When the boss is in their face, they drag their feet. Noone wants to report a problem or admit they need help, and noone works together. Things end up taking longer. When the boss is away, it's great. We can work our way. People start to remember WHY they are in the business and take pride in their work. In one example, 2 weeks worth of work, was done in a week. We reached peak performance everytime that the people didnt have an angry boss dictating every aspect of their work.

Simon, you are so right. The only thing is that at the moment there are 99% of the other kind and only 1% of the long-term vision kinds. And I think that a good majority of this 1% gets affected / impacted, many times upto the point of having to believe that they are in the wrong place all the time. Excellent video, instills confidence

it is very true, it is human tendency, you often find people very selfish, the more you are giving type, the more give your time and energy, the more caring you're the more is the expectation and they use you to the max for their person benefits. I think one should learn to give ONLY when someone is really 'in need' of your support and caring, your time and energy and even financial help. If you simply keep doing with a good heart, good intention people keep taking, I have had experience all the time at work people take advantage of your efforts, your contributions to promote themselves.

I agree with Simon that courage is external. To survive, we need the tools, know-how, and people who we can count upon which is all external to us as an individual. As a example, any startup founder who has a larger-than-life vision needs to find that first collaborator either as a co-founder or an employee to believe in the same vision, for any work to happen. Any seasoned entrepreneur will admit it that he or she simply wouldn't do what they have done if not for having a great team that believed in their vision. There is always a person who first believed in a nut-job to do crazy stuff. And most often than not, those startups or companies where real innovation and passionate work takes place started with absolutely no resources whatsoever. Even if you knew that doing something that you believe in will bring about a change to either your life or to the others, you will still the need the faith that fellow human beings put in you regardless of your prior experience and expertise. There is a difference between being absolutely foolish and being courageous, no one remembers the person who didn't take any help from anyone to do something for their personal gain.

I love Simon Sinek his concept of why, saw many of his talks and will surely read his book as well. One remark though that I have to make in this particular interview there is one thing I disagree with , when he says 'courage doesn't come from within'? 'it is given by others'? No I am sorry but courage comes only from within. That is exactly what courage is 'you' overcoming your own fear of doing something' when nobody is helping , when nobody is gonna support you is where courage starts! (and nothing else) courage is a concious deliberate exercise it is not something that is given or can be gotten from an outside source. Its a result of a determined mind.
@darknessdollhouse75157 жыл бұрын
bitesizefirst: On this I disagree with him as well. I found his understanding of courage a bit narcissist. 🌙

If you think someone else can teach you how to have courage I am afraid you don't understand the meaning of the word or act for that matter.
@claudiaply26407 жыл бұрын
Simon is right, and he explains very well in terms that courage IS an external thing that you learn from your environments and experiences, and then, it helps you overcome your fear and you can develop your own courage and grow from there.
@bitesizefirst7 жыл бұрын
I am by no means an unintelligent human being and Claudia ..I wish you good luck with your life if you think somebody else can teach you to have courage. You either have it or don't, even supposed brilliant minds like Simon can get it wrong, and here he is deadwrong.

its all great what he is talking - do things and help others without any expectations then world will get better place. its all good, i am like that, but how to protect yourself from being used? people see that you give and help for free, they simply take and use u. then you can to a situation when u realise to help less is better eventho i would love to help much more than i do, but feeling that u were used sux.

This guy is really clever and observant but where does this concept of wanting to be happy or "I just want to be happy/just do what makes you happy) come from? this seems to be the biggest problem in society, some people are predisposed to being happy most of the time and they shy away from things and emotions that are difficult, that's how it is for them, if you have any depth or empathy, happiness is not achievable, (you will have your moments) but people with depth are or can be extreme and everything they do is extreme, and they are very curious but they are not happy or content, this is just not acheiveable for a lot of people, Millenials need to monitor their jealousy and self importance
