SOLAR ECLIPSE
Tomorrow, Australia will experience its first total solar eclipse in years and thousands of people are flocking to a small town in WA to witness it in its full glory! That's right, tomorrow the sun, moon, and Earth will completely line up. And for about 1 minute, the moon will slip in front of the sun, casting a shadow on Earth. This time, one of the best places in the world to view the eclipse is here, a tiny town in WA called Exmouth. It's usually home to about twenty-five-hundred people, but about twenty thousand people from around the world are expected to rock up for a glimpse. The action will kick off at around 10am local time, and the Perth Observatory will be livestreaming the entire thing! The rest of the country will be treated to a partial solar eclipse at different times of the day. But no matter where you are, don't look directly at it. Staring at an eclipse can cause permanent vision loss. So make sure you protect your eyes. By using things like these special eclipse glasses.
CORONATION QUICHE
Buckingham Palace has revealed King Charles the Third's signature coronation dish - a quiche! It's made from a blend of spinach, broad beans, cheese and tarragon, and the idea is that people will make it to eat at coronation parties on May 6. But it gets a bit awkward, UK is currently in the middle of an egg shortage, and it's received some pretty mixed reactions from the public.
COUCH SURFING
From perseverance to respect, dream machine to cool runnings. There wasn't a couch potato in sight today at Darwin's annual couch surfing race. But couch surfing doesn't always look quite like this though. It usually means when someone doesn't have a home of their own and are instead staying temporarily at other people's places, often sleeping on couches. And with today being National Youth Homelessness Matters Day, the message couched in this event is about how common it is for young people to find themselves without a safe place to live. Currently more than 45,000 Australians under 25 are experiencing homelessness. And out of everyone experiencing homelessness in the country, 23% of them are 12 to 24 years old. So this event's all about bringing awareness to the issue. Every couch in the competition was decorated in a unique style, and with their helmets and knee pads, the teams came prepared for anything.
AI PHOTO WINS COMPETITION
This photo has been making waves recently for winning a prestigious photography competition. But the artist behind it shocked organisers by saying it was generated using AI. And he didn't want to accept the award. He says he wants to raise awareness about the rise of AI art, and how competitions like these might need to rethink the way they operate to stop this happening again in the future.
HOLLYWOOD AUCTION
Now to Hollywood where hundreds of props, costumes and memorabilia from iconic movies are going under the hammer. If you have deep pockets, you could snap up these wands used in the Harry Potter movies, or this Iron Man mask, or these props from the Mandalorian.
FLORIDA MERMAID
And finally, to a mermaid in Florida! Merle is a mono-fin swimmer who's attempting to snap up her 5th world record, this time for swimming 48 kilometres in her monofin. Which she pulled off in 14 hours and 15 minutes. While she was out there, she also collected rubbish. Merle hopes her impressive feat can shine a light on the bigger problem of plastic pollution in the ocean.
