First of all, I have thought that many poor countries which have poverty are in Africa but he said that China and India has shown the huge decrease of poverty, so it was fresh and impressive to me. Also "as we get richer, each extra dollar of GDP is buying us less and less." was struck me hard. So, what he want to say is the rich does NOT solve the poverty, but the well-being for all like costa rica is important for everyone and future generation. I'm a highschool student and what I want to major in is social welfare, so this lecture was literally helpful and it made me have the sense of duty! and it provided the opportunity of thinking about not only what I can make a welfare policy for poverty but also 17 goals from UN! Thank you so much!

For people complaining that he mentioned gender equality: you realize he's talking about the whole world right, not just whatever developed nation you're in? You realize that gender equality is a very real and very serious issue in developing nations right? I expect TED subscribers to be more intellegent.

I've made this argument on this channel and most people disagreed with me. Some people are soooooo male centric that they can never see men as lesser victims and primary oppressors even in the harshest countries. They'll just bring up child soldiers and murdered men and act like women's problems are trivial. The TED commenters are very male focused.

+realnarutoboy he is talking about humanism and egalitarianism, mentioning gender equality doesn't negate that. Gender Equality does not equal feminism, it equals gender equality. If more victims in developing nations are men, as you say, it doesn't negate the fact that women in developing nations (african countries for example) are often mistreated by their people, government, law officials, etc. I agree with you that we need a more humanist view, but that shouldn't blind us to the fact that women in developing nations, at least right now, are at an unequal footing, and it needs to change.

+realnarutoboy Do you have any real data to prove that? Or you just made that upon your mind? Women are the victims. I know because unlike you, I'm a male who live in a developing country and I see it all the time. Don't act like an expert about things you don't have a clue about.

In school, I am doing a project based on the sustainable development goals and seeing this video really makes me want to know more about them. People all over the world are still clueless on what the goals are or about the existence of them. It is very important to address these goals to everyone, and we all need to work together for the better of the world. I am only 11, but this does not stop me from wanting to make the world a better place. My teacher is the person who told Me about the goals and she is the most dedicated person I have ever met. I hope everyone thinks about this and takes action. I hope everyone out there is as dedicated as my teacher is. I know there are people out there who just don't care, so this is why we have to work hard in completing the goals. Spread word to your friends, family.Let's try to make the world an better place. Listen to Gretta Thunnberg. Listen to all the the leaders. Let's Make the world a better place.

No system has ever worked because it's base has always been capitalist (including communism), that is, based on money. As long as someone can get money by killing, selling drugs, trafficking in people and others courtesies, there will be no social justice. We should end money as we know it, redefine it, reinvent it. How? Making it free, why not? Today the technology to do it is available, a virtual money like in a mobile game or app, of course, why not? That it reaches everyone, without exception, that would equal us all. And so that people do not steal, kill, traffic, etc..? For this it is necessary that this virtual money is non-transferable, that is, that there can not be money exchange between two people. If I go to a store and buy something, the money the product costs is deducted from my virtual purse and disappears, it does not end up in the virtual purse of the grocer or anyone else. Each one receives a salary to do his work. In this way, killing to get rich would not exist. How would a gangster pay his hitmen? He could not. How to make people work and not live from unemployment? By making a monthly payment for workers and a lower monthly payment for the unemployers, workers will have a higher quality of life. Free housing, education and health, work 3 days a week, guaranteed retirement. Want to know more? Eng.evolutionmove.com More than 15 thousand children die every day, one every 5 seconds, because of our current system. @@Ottedikkie This is Something to benefit 7.5 billion people, let’s solve the problems most say they want to fix but do nothing to fix except pretend to fix it with a solution that is actually the problem. You can’t put out a fire with gasoline and wood.why do we think we can make the world better by keeping the fire the same as it’s always been. would you rather do good or bad in this world and are you willing to give up what we where told was normal and has been a way of life long before any of us had our first breath, but in reality it’s one of The 3 problems that is cause the people of this world to suffer, and the rest of the things that are wrong can only be fixed from within each individuals mind/feelings. Simple problems have simple solutions (FTP “for the people”) a system that is built for the people by the people and only moves in the direction that the people say. I had an epiphany that changed the way I’m willing to present a better way of life to the people on this earth, I want everyone no matter what border they live within to have a choice and not be selfish and poke at a problem that’s so simple and easy to solve prime example of such, is world hunger, poverty, people who exploit others weaknesses for their own personal gain like drug dealers or greedy selfish people, when there is nothing to gain from doing bad it becomes redundant to do any bad. But my point is the bad can end now if we allow it too end. Something built for the people by the people, a way to change without having to give up what humanity has innovated a life that can be Ighteva (a new word of it’s own language for a purposeful reason for change) way of life. ighteva doesn’t translate to any language in a verbal comprehendible way but the meaning is everything positive (so if you close your eyes and see all the positive in your life and around you it may be a word or a story or a place or a moment in time literally everything and anything positive) non the less what I’m telling you, the old ways of being selfish would be no more, but people get to choose if that’s something they want to do, and the door will always be open to everyone who’s wishes to live life and have trust in what they do because they can see that everyone is benefitting. what is a government without followers, it’s just a bunch of politicians whithout power, but the people without government is no different then What they were without it. I’m not looking for anything but a better life for the people, a way to help improve the lives of 7.5 billion people. Both rich and poor. 7.5 B people have the chance to choose how they live whether it be the old way or a different way all together or the Ighteva way built on honesty transparency and trust with no leaders who make our decisions each person has a say in those decisions, with a new language so we can comprehend 7.5 billion people or as many people who decide to stop living life to grow by themselves but live life so they can grow the people, The need for currency would be no more because the only thing currency does is incentivize greedy and selfish people. There'll still be (what you comprehend as a leader ) people who make sure everything is running in a efficient manner and ethics are being upheld called what you comprehend as navigators they are anyone who’s choices may directly impact the people in a demographic of structure (aka jobs) that advances humanity, they need to show transparency and what I mean by that is they have to sacrifice privacy for the duration of the work where there decisions impact the people, they only hold that spot as long as everyone agrees that person is the best and most efficient person to advance that demographic of humanity the navigator has just as much say in the decisions as people who are affected by those decisions everyone has the opportunity and choice to make the best decision possible in the direction that any demographic of structure that advances humanity and the direction it goes. As I mentioned people have equal say and they can see a live feed with 2 sometimes three angels 1st 2nd 3rd point of view cameraswill always have a microphone so the people hear and see what they do this way the people will never be left in the dark and the people can then hold equal power over the direction of humanity’s growth and get a say in what happens, and it gives the ability for everyone to choose it also holds The navigator accountable to be truthful if maybe someone can do the job more efficiently. the cameras and microphone is not there for any purpose aside from allowing everyone to see and get a decision on the things that impacts everyone’s lives. People shouldn’t have to blindly trust politicians that we have to vote decide the direction that humanity/civilization/country/the people go, because no matter how free a country may be, someone is in charge and ultimately do what they want to do because of personal gain or selfish incentive because that’s what they are taught. But that needs to change so the world can be peaceful and exponentially grow beyond fathomability. when you are a navigator you don’t make decisions on your own the people make the decisions based off the only insensitive that will exist in the Ighteva structure, and that is collective growth for the betterment of the people and that will forever be perpetual as long as there are people who would rather everyone advance and grow together and live the best life. rather then selfishly chasing what only helps one individually and in reality your only hurting yourself doing that, because there is no guarantee that you will always be doing good. But if everyone grows equally based off a incentive that benefits all, no one in the this world will ever be hungry or have to sleep on the streets unless they choose that instead. are there good people who care? Are there any good people left in the world who would sacrifice their own individual growth and ego to grow, So together the people can, and The only limitation to how well-off they are is how advanced the world is. Why not do exactly what you do selfishly for yourself that unfortunately caused the world to be the way it is with the war, division, hate, poverty, hunger, addictions, weapons made to hurt each other, the borders that we set up all around the world that just make us fight for no good reason at all. I don’t expect everyone to sacrifice there greedy way of life by working for money and personal incentives because that why people are starving and wars are being fought because there are people that would rather become wealthy than have everyone including themselves have the best humanity has to offer. Do you want to solve these problems or continue to over look you actually don’t care about the problems are selfish ways cause?, this is a way if proving if your intent is your own selfish ways but now you can’t overlook The owad cause and effect of what we all do. We could be providing a solution for the best quality of life for all the people on planet earth. So I’m asking the people if they want to live IGHTEVA or OWAD(opposite of IGHTEVA) let’s build a better system together. If we actually want change in this world and not just throw more of what causes the problems at the the problem and say we are trying to make a difference needs to stop. And if you want to continue to be a part of the problem eventually humanity will most likely be consumed by itself. The only thing that has ever separated impossible from possible is our people-Tye Ronald Zimmer

I saw this video and realized that the apocalypse and pessimists who say the nation will not improve are wrong. Our country is developing little by little and will continue to develop in the future by meeting and worrying many people. I think if we keep this condition going, our country will be able to make great progress. So this video was very moving and hopeful because it criticizes negative people about making our country a better country and instills the perception that our country can develop further and we can live better.

Yes!! Hold the world's leaders accountable and shifting from the old paradigm of business-as-usual, along with suspending our tendencies toward pessimism and naysaying CAN get us to reach the Sustainable Development goals. We need optimism and holding to the higher road so that ALL people of the world can attain these ideals. Instead of miring down the good work that many at the UN are doing, let's raise up the collective energy towards a world that the vast majority of humanity craves-- support the SDG! After watching this video, I realized that if we tried hard, the global goal could be achieved faster than I thought. And What's important to achieve global goal is not economic wealth, but the creation of a society that citizens want. In other words, social welfare is the top priority. From now on, I will change to make better futuer and actively participate in it.

Jakob Stubbs If the implication is correct, your goal is to abolish crime. Rape is a crime, and the reasons for its occurrence is numerous, sexism naturally playing a role. But nonetheless, it is a crime just like murdering as it is like stealing. As a society, we should hate all these acts and *work* to eliminate it. If you paid a modicum of attention to the video, and I’m not saying you didn’t, you would understand that for every problem, there are symptoms, and for most symptoms, there is an inherent problem, which could then cause another symptom or even inflate the original problem. Let me get to the point-forgive me for my pedantic-esque wordiness. It is unrealistic to either expect abolishing a crime to effectively eliminate it or even expect it to be eliminated in its totality regardless of our efforts. What we can do-as a society that should take responsibility for its future victims and vortexes of inequity-is work harder to lower our flaws to the maximum capacity. And when we reach a cap on progress? Then we must adapt. In no way did Green even implicate the possibility of your wonderful utopia into his practical analysis of what we NEED to do. I consider myself a strong progressive dissatisfied with the political monopoly establishment shills hold on our country. At the same time, I am disappointed in our society that supports polarization and division at the cost of true public interests. But NEVER have I invested in the complete eradication of our issues as an overarching goal. It’s absurd, and losing oneself on such constrained ideals impedes progress in the majority of causes. I apologize if I have presumed your ideology and beliefs, but your ambiguous critique of New Life forced me to make educated assumption (that I hope you will correct if I am wrong or have misconstrued). You not only put words in New Life’s straight-forward rhetoric, but you seemed to lack a comprehensive understanding of the words you imposed upon him. I’m sure you intended to use ‘abolish’ in a quite loose form, but even overlooking that, it’s incredibly disingenuous comparing the feasible desire to ‘reduce rape (or any societal/socio-economic issue) as much as possible’ without causing more societal issues to a simplified and distorted ‘just rape less.’ The idea of minimizing injustice and inequity while maximizing living conditions is a true liberal-egalitarian ideal by which 99% of more radical ( or more left) groups base their beliefs in our current political climate. While socialism-utopian to some extent like truly ‘abolishing’ rape or ‘making the whole world vegan’-has also gained much traction in recent times, it is widely manifested by less radical principles that are more likely to be implemented and succeed. A social democrat (a socialist capitalist hybrid that have also adopted the term ‘democratic socialist’ despite it initially promoting an eventual pure socialist system) tries to find the best of both worlds to bring about an effective, sustainable society and government. This is the closest ideology you’ll find today to achieving Green’s goal. Again, I’m sorry for being excessive, but you really seemed out-of-touch with reality. I’m certainly willing to own up to the mistakes I may have made. I just hope we can have a productive discussion, if you so wish.

Change begins from oneself.... Only talking about it or making presentations can actually not take us nowhere. We have to create an environment at home and at the school to ensure what we are preaching is being practiced by us, our family members and then things can be expected to gradually change..... Its not in the developed or developing nations its in the mindset which needs a makeover

He told very important things to us. Many countries reached high level of economies, as a result , they solved their problems such as poverty, equal opportunites of education for the weak and so on. However, there are more countries that don't do practical efforts for solving problems than countries that don't. In my country, South Korea, we finally achieved significant progress of econmoies, but many people are suffering from a variety of pains that we even can't imagine. Not only each goverment, but also all people have to pay attention to convention like that and always try their best.

This video reminded me of the importance of working together. I could learn that not the relationship between economic growth and social development is important but using wealth of the country for improving citizen's welfare is important. To achieve civil welfare, he said the leaders should change and for that, we have to change, too. When i heard the story i thought of a Korea's historical incident which money for managing our country was used to fill out one person, the president's self-interest. After that incident, Koreans have changed. They are now interested in the government's policy and they knew the way to fight against injustice and improve their own civil welfare in a peaceful way. But i think this kind of incident shouldn't be repeated. What a waste of time and money!

Over time, there are still many problems in our society. For example, there are problems such as poverty, hunger, gender equality, and human rights violations. Social development is not much related to economic development. A rise in GDP figures does not significantly raise the world's social development index, and the problems raised above are not easily resolved. The social development index is very high when considering the welfare of citizens first, and our efforts are very important not only for leaders but also for our efforts. After watching this video, I realized that we should not ignore it as someone else's business, but instead of just eating well and living well, but helping other poor and discriminated against people, and thinking about the welfare of the people as the top priority and trying to keep our needs from being forgotten by our leaders. My dream is to be a fashion designer, and I want to help them a little by making clothes that are warm and practical for everyone who is poor, discriminated, and hungry to contribute even a little bit to raising the social development index.

After watching this video, I became interested in the social development index. And rather than resorting to economic development, I thought that I should actually solve human rights problems in the world and raise the global social development index so that people all over the world can improve their quality of life, I would like to become a psychologist in the future, taking responsibility for people's mental health and reducing stress. I want to make a better social development index because of me.

I saw this video and thought I could solve hunger, achieve gender equality and prevent climate change in 15 years. The idea was that government efforts and our petty actions could bring about great changes in harmony. Because I think if we try a little more, we can achieve the goal enough because we have set our future goals and compared them further. And it occurred to me that if the welfare of citizens is considered the top priority by satisfying the three questions that appear in the video, then the achievement of the world's goals can be sufficiently increased. This video was a little hard for me to understand, but if many people watched and practiced it with interest, I could make a better world.

The fact that the vertical axis shows the social development index, and the horizontal axis shows the per capita GDP, made the problem in the video even more real, so it gave me an impression. I have known about the existence of GDP because it came from social studies textbooks that we learn from schools. I thought, "GDP is just good if it's high." But this video showed that a country that interprets the graph and records very high levels of social development economically is not high.I think that the common thread of these countries, Costa Rica and Rwanda, is that our country, which is an aged society and a super-low birth society, has come to think that the welfare of Sweden needs to be more diversified and better than it is now, so I think that the better welfare and problems can be solved gradually. And I realized a lot of things when I saw this video. Although it's been four years since the video was uploaded, I hope that the world people will bring about a result where many people will see this video, like me, and improve the civil welfare of each country in the world.

If the world focuses so much of it energy on negativity, who says it cant just as easily be focused on positivity. I believe the world is already a beautiful place, its just about perception. @@anneliseluna1306 tragedy is caused by suffering trampling over the optimistic hopeful outcome. However, even after the storm has raged and raped life has a strange ability and even more bizarre inclination to heal. I genuinely believe there is more light in human beings than there is darkness and I don't admit that lightly nor naively. Since perceivable life has already begun (we are alive) why not aim for good, it's full of responsibility but that's what makes it meaningful and I see that that is what human beings want perhaps more than anything - a meaningful life lived.

"Sustainable development" is the processes by which the ultra-rich will usurp the entire globe, collectively, as well as redistribute the wealth of the first world across the MUCH larger, third world. In other words, unless you're rich... or about to get rich, say good-bye to your physical and mental health and good-bye to your future. The entire premise behind supporting this initiative is TRUST in politicians to do what is best. Not only do we have no direct role in any of this, other than compliance, but chances are that we will NEVER be able to meet with or speak to anybody who makes these big decisions that will have a global impact and even if we do, our words will likely have zero impact on their policies, since their policies are determined by a collective hierarchy, which could be infested with psychopathic criminals and we have no way of finding out OR fighting back because we would be accepting the whole idea based on TRUST and trust alone. Unless you want to see the rise of global communism and eventually, global fascism, this "hey let's put all our eggs in one basket idea" is not something you ought to promote to anybody!
