Alternatively, the universe may exist soley because of us. Nobody knows, but whether it does or not, I think humanity's most likely response will be to just build a better universe. It's kind of our thing, and we could do it. Shadakov thrusters, stellar megastructures like dyson swarms or matriovshka brains, and the sheer amount of mass we have to work with is more than enough. Just cram a bunch of it together in orbit around a black hole and run a simulated universe that will, thanks to time dilation and the speed of light, relatively last quadrillions of times as long as this one. Assuming this one ends. We could make trillions of those, and in any one there may be sentient digital beings in a simualted reality declaring their importance. I'd consider them important. Would you?

IIRC Thanos is did this - he put up some kind of barrier around the universe to prevent it's collapse. Nobody kills everything except for him.
