Your welcome, I have just posted a video using the 172, with a bit of subtle flanging, you may like. Cheers Tim.

I'm looking forward to your next video with your enlarged sound options. I often use a flanger effect with my grandmother (from an old Yamaha SPX-90).

I will be doing one, the effect doesn't seem as strong as an outboard guitar FX pedal though.

Cheers, I don't know why Behringer gets bad press, all my experience with them is positive. Well built, sound and look good.

Hey Tim - You work fast 😄I had an original 100m system and had to pick my modules carefully. Always wanted the Phaser... Sounds really cool 👍

Ay-up Ian, yeah thought I'd get a move on. The original modules were and are expensive aren't they, and they look about 50% bigger also. I have to learn a bit more about the 172 to get the full potential out of it. Cheers for watching.

@@DisciplinedCommotion Yes, the original 100m modules came out before Eurorack and were bigger. They were also a very nice olive green which B hasn't managed to copy 😊 Be wary of getting the sequencer as I think they fudged the range control. Tim Shoebridge did a video about it, a while ago now

Great vid! If you have not made one already I would love a little breakdown of all your modules. As someone who is always tempted to dip my toes into modular I would love to see what you built and more importantly the order in which you bought and built your rack.

Thank you, I got into modular because I wanted a new mono synth and couldn't decide on one, then I saw an advert for a Behringer System 15, and thought this looks interesting, didn't know how to use them really, but it comes with what you need to get started, so I bought one and love it. I posted an unboxing and fist try video, you may like to see. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3rWoKV3Z8ucY68

Yeah - phaser is great, the flanger is a bit subtle, I guess it is limited by how much delay you can get out of a "authentic vintage analogue" delay line c.f. newer digital delays. Feed it with white noise to really hear what it is doing, so it's probably good for drum sounds. A while ago I tried patching the delay into a feedback loop with a 100 VCA and that gave a somewhat more in-yer-face flanger/chorus effect. The LFO in the 172 is a bit weird (deliberately) - the output amplitude is pretty low and decreases as you increase the LFO rate, which does sound better with the phaser but might be confusing if yu try and use it as a separate LFO. Again, if you want in-your-face phasing/flanging, patch a regular LFO to the "modulation in" (works well with the delayed LFOs in the other Sys100 modules). Gate delay is roughly equivalent to the System 55 911A Trigger delay module (Sys55 seems to use "trigger" for everything - more widely 'trigger' tends to mean a very short pulse indicating the start of a sound, whereas a 'gate' signal stays on for the duration of the note). The 172 gate delay converts a gate CV - or any other signal - into a pulse with adjustable length and optional delay. With the double VCFs, VCAs and envelopes in the Sys 100 you could, e.g. do a stereo patch where the right-hand note triggers a fraction of a second after the left, or a mono patch where the VCF envelope lags behind the VCA envelope. Or just get a "double note" effect. The gate delay is handy for "pinging" envelopes and filters - set everything on the gate delay to zero, feed in your gate/trigger signal and take the output to the audio input of a VCF. Patch the frequency control of the VCF to the note pitch CV. Now crank up the VCF resonance ('Regeneration' for Sys55) to just below the point where it starts to howl. Now when you play a note you should get a "tuned percussion" sound. More fun - random triggers: instead of the gate signal, feed white/pink noise into the gate delay, set delay and length to zero, "threshold" to max and slowly turn it down until you get that authentic dusty vinyl LP sound... For anybody who has the Behringer System 100 modules, there's an old two-volume book called "Practical Synthesis for Electronic Music" freely downloadable from the internet (archive.org/details/synth_Practical_Synthesis_for_Electronic_Music_volume_1) which is largely about the Roland System 100m and is thus, effectively the "missing manual" for the Behringer System 100. Lots of patch examples that can be applied almost directly to the Sys100 modules.

wow, thank you for the in-depth info. The feedback loop sounds interesting, I am quite new to modular, how would I patch a feedback loop? Cheers Tim.

@@DisciplinedCommotion So, I tried reproducing my old feedback patch and it isn't making the effect any deeper for me, so maybe don't waste time with that one.
