Cool video! A few things to mention. If you want to trigger the envelopes with a gate you can just go into the jack below switch that's normalled to S/H clock. As for the tip about effecting the lfo rate, as far as I know you are only effecting the behaviour of the LED on the slider of the lfo. If you listen to the lfo output while "modulating" it through the square output you will hear the lfo is working as normal, on my unit at least. I will retest this and make sure but I'm pretty sure the only way to influence the LFO is with midi notes resetting it when the trig mode switch is in the down position. There are a couple other uncommon patching techniques you could have included in this video such as using the preamp to make a feedback oscillator/lfo and modulating the oscillator waveshape by using the saw outputs as inputs.

A well spotted regarding the LFO, I suppose I finished my discovery session a bit early. I had no idea about using the saw outputs as inputs. I dont think I have ever had any equipment as full of odd features and hidden things as thisone

@@TheFellowPassenger Semi modulars are pretty weird. Most modern synths have heavily buffered outputs but on the 2600 there is less buffering. The saw output works as an input because they are saw-core oscillators. All other waveforms are derived from the saw so if you modulate the saws waveshape this way all waveforms are effected. Another trick with the half patched cable is getting access to whatever signal is normalled to a jack, so using inputs as outputs. I have a feeling there are a few tricks on this thing that have yet to be discovered but I've been focusing on my other synths at the moment.

I actually think the gate in and trigger in "problem" makes perfect sense. They are two different things. One is a momentary thing, the other is a held thing. Your triggered note won't be held if there is no gate voltage. And a gate voltage won't affect anything until the note is triggered. The simple solution is just to plug into the jack to the left of those (where S/H Clock is hardwired) and flip the switch down. I just noticed at least one other has pointed this out.

I think if you cut the cable and swap the wiring, you will be able to push the whole jack in and trigger S&H. It looks like grounds and positives are reversed in the S&H in socket.

Having to use both gate and trigger is how Moog modular works. So most likely this is by design. Search for V-trig and S-trig.

Voltage trigger and Short- or Switching trigger....S trig is used by for example the Korg MS20 and Hz/V instead of V/oct.....Thise can be set in Arturia's MCC for both the BSP and Keystep.....

On the Korg 2600m if you play the synth from midi but take a patch lead from the gate input/output you’re refering to, to another synth’s gate in, it will trigger the other synth when you play the keyboard. Have you tried this with the Barp? I tested it with my pro 1 and it works. It’s handy because you can use the Behringer pro 1’s envelopes for the 2600👍 Edit. I see now how the Behringer is different to the original, the gate and trig outs have been moved to the left side and they have added gate and cv inputs to the AR envelope section. That caught me out for a moment!

I had the original, put the trig from keyboard in the voltage processor then in the gate imput.

Amazing hack ! I didn't know ! FYI, Maffez did mod the 2600 to properly sync the E. Switch (and made a lot of other amazing mods). I did it on mine, it's working perfectly. There are lot of annoying things in the 2600. Hopefuly it sounds great.

Oh, Behringer. Why didn’t you add a jack for externally clocking the switch? Sure, it was an odd limitation in the original ARP 2600, but this was a no-brainer improvement that could have greatly expanded the utility of the switch.

@@TheFellowPassenger you have to keep in mind it’s a clone of a 50 year old synth, and it was made with using specific pieces of hardware of the time. the behringer is a clone. It would be interesting to know what voltages are at your “jumpers”. I think we’ll find that gating or triggering with +5/-5 volts doesn’t trigger, where 0-10 volts does. BTW, I have the same model 2600 clone that I am trying to use “as if” it were the Buchla 100 that I took an independent study on in the 70s (yup; I’m OLD). I have a 0-CTRL (tunable touch plates/8- step sequencer) that’s smarter than the Buchla’s but now I want a second 0-CTRL. 😊. I’ve “Liked” and Subscribed; I want to see more of your work!

Interesting, I shall try it. I have a Soma Pulsar 23 that works on 0-10 volts. So will try and send a trigger from it. I suppose you use the 0-CTRL to allow you to create your own custom micro tuning per key? I have very little experience using Buchlas. A friend has a small set up, but I have to admit I am completely lost and have no idea what is going on and I struggled to create anything that I could use.

excellent video, thanks for doing this! your envelope gate & trigger section is not correct though. it is a confusing wiring on that synth, but the "issue" is somewhere else. in your video your vca is only controlled by the adsr, not the ad. that's why you don't hear anything when putting anything into the gate in. the ad section is working, just not routed to the vca. the trigger input, however, is more relevant to the adsr section, and the positioning at the panel makes it confusing. if you plug a gate into the gate input of the adsr, you will still hear nothing. you also need to send a gate to the trigger input at the ad section. it is absolutely possible to trigger both envelope sections externally, and independently, but not the way you demonstrated.
