The Chord Mode is a real attraction for this synth.
@tailbiterz
@tailbiterz Ай бұрын
Hi, Thanks for the comment. I've only looked at the chord mode briefly at the moment, but it does look interesting. I want to try and do a patch that will sequence through the chord modes and make some sense. Think I might have to connect up something externally to do this though.... or at least add an attenuator and level shifter to one of the Grinds outputs.
@MoeShinola1
@MoeShinola1 Ай бұрын
@tailbiterz Attenuator? Is it not loud enough? My Edge and my Crave are both plenty loud.
@tailbiterz
@tailbiterz Ай бұрын
It not the loudness I'm worried about, an attenuator would reduce that anyway. What I would want the attenuator and offset control for is to allow me to alter one of the CV outputs, (offset and scale) so that it would give me a controllable chord change. I think the chord change control for the chord mode is the "OSC HARM" input (perhaps the Timbre control as well). I might try and program up a microcontroller at some point to control the inputs for the chord parameters. Hope this sort of makes sense.

Nice demo, incorporating the patching. On Try 6, I notice the patch / bank LEDs jumping around. Are you able to use the patch bay to randomise the bank selection?
@tailbiterz
@tailbiterz Ай бұрын
Hi, Thanks for watching. Yes you can control the model change at least as there is an "OSC MODEL" input. I think this may change the bank as well if the input change range is large enough, but I'm not sure about this yet. I want to set up some other modular gear or microcontrollers to change the model in a controlled manner, and then scale and change the presets to provide some sort of weird sequencing. All the Best

What is the USB for? Can you do MIDI over usb?
@tailbiterz
@tailbiterz Ай бұрын
The usb seems to work to update firmware and also change some of the hidden parameters. Not sure about the midi functionality, but I'll have a look at it in the manual or check it out later. Thanks for watching.
@tailbiterz

Hi, I've just looked at the USB port on the Grind. It seems that It cant be detected for USB MIDI. Tried in Reaper, wouldnt detect as a USB device, but I could have been doing something wrong. I seem to remember the same thing happened with the Crave, Edge etc. The USB port does allow you to change parameters (I think some can also be changed via midi 5-pin using sysex commands). If you download the newest Synthtribe app from Behringer, the Grind is detected over USB. It seems you can then update firmware, and change parameters like clock sync etc. You can also load the sequencer using a piano roll interface. Finally there is an option for presets that allows saving and loading, I don't know how this works yet though. Hope this helps a bit. All the Best.

Hi Just checked again, got the midi in / out working over USB. I had the wrong settings in my DAW, I hadn't enabled a new device in Reapers preferences. Probably because I use 5-pin midi most of the time. Cheers, all the best.

iam a bit confused about the grind, what would it be used for in a track as a first choice sound source. not meening to insult it but iam lost what it could be used for when comparing it.. i have the edge, cat, wasp , jt4000, pwm malevolent.. each unit was bought with an idea in mind what it could excel at . whats the grinds magic/ best use ? thanks

It's not about 1 thing. It's based on a eurorack module, the Mutable Instruments Plaits. It has 24 different sound engines to choose from. It's up to you what need you are trying to fill in your setup. It can do pads, chords, bass, percussion. It's semi modular too so it integrates well with other semi modular synths or eurorack. It would be a great starting synth or gateway to modular. It's like a semi modular Arturia Microfreak.

Hi, Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment.. Sorry I only just got round to replying. I think @noahward9445 has answered pretty well. I was going to get the Behringer Brains to go with some of my modular stuff, but I quite like the idea of the Grind as it can be used "stand-alone" . I'm planning on trying it out with the Edge, Crave and a Novation Peak in the future and possibly some other gear like the Ksoloti Gills.... and some home made gear. I like that you can remotely switch the models "on-the-fly" using a CV input..... going to try this with the Edge. Also, there seems to be some oscillator slots left empty in yellow bank 3, I'm hoping that Behringer will add some more firmware updates in the future to add to these slots. I'm also wondering if the firmware could be hacked to allow user defined oscillator engines, I may try this out .... but probably wont get around to it ..... possibly something for someone else to look at ?

@@noahward9445 chords ? Number of voices Monophonic according to behringer website .. the chord mode it has is not enough. after watching more videos and the website iam still struggling to find what would it would be good at. the main thing i like is the swing feature on the sequencer which is not the sound engines. overall iam thinking a mini vs at less then half the price is actually a more useful option . i assumed the grind was going to be a must have insta buy but i cant see a main use for it on a tracks. happy to have my mind changed tho :}

@@dark-heavyit would be like a crave with a bigger sonic choice. Specific to me, being able to upload dx7 sysex into the bx7. Considering some of what I’ve heard people creating with the crave and edge this would just add that much more. With the spice on it’s way. You seem to know what sound and function you are looking for in synths and maybe these just aren’t right for you. My synthesizer have primarily been 80’s digital stuff and these units have helped my get into the more analog side in a super fun way.

@@neplusultra4196 thanks for reply , not meening to troll people as such. ran out of deskspace and plug sockets... not to mention the short power cables and non usb c. if your liking analogue i can fully recomend the pwm malevolent and wasp as a combo synth . they work really well together . pwm is fat and wasp has a tone + filter knarl . edge is the unit i use least simply because its not usb c and the power cable doesnt reach across my desk. behringer really needs to use usb-c as standard.
