This mindset works if you don’t play live, or if your songs all use the same synth sound (or if you arrange you set so that the synth sound evolves logically over time), but isn’t realistic for most live players. I typically leave my preset-free synths at home when playing a live show.
@rdm51904 жыл бұрын
Exactly.... Synths of my earlier days were all "memoryless" and inspired creativityin sound designas well as musicianship,the real deal vintage moogs,arps,paia's,rolands,korgs,the dreaded music easel and the loved CS Yamahas,stuff that sends collector's drooling in preset days.....hell my 1st synth was a minikorg 700,then a korg dl50/delta of #2,no presets existed except a pencil&a drawing of all the knobs&sliders&we did fine making them sound damn close to last night's rehearsals patchs,sometimes better depending on the temperature stability of the synths...lol It was as exciting sex on prom night when that polysix came into my life&I could store a preset I liked but I still tryed to create my sounds from scratch on most synths except that damn dx7,I obviously need a PhD in algorithm science to be proficient in programming that monstrosity of numbers and still do to this day... Using a preset is comparable to wearing someone else's underwear out on a date to some people,especially the modular crowd but do work well and are kinda nessasitys if your gigging preforming same sets night after night gigs or have a complicated synth to write programs on but otherwise build your sounds&patches it does inspire creativity and helps you better understand sound design,plus you may just discover something new,unique &special that you've not discovered you can do by noodling around....then when you do,thats the time to save a preset! Have fun&stay safe....
