Except I do have a talkie coming soon… 😂 but yeah still just try to present the facts. … this is what it is. I tried to go super complex and keep them S close as I could. The resolution of the pots is an issue in some cases and the modulation amount and envelopes aren’t identical…. Opinions really depend on what someone expects or want to find.

@@StarskyCarr someone has done a stereo P800 will 2 units polychained, it sounds weird for me with stabs or plucks, but pads with long envelopes are more forgiving. The uploader is using a 3rd party MIDI handler to send 2nd note to 2nd P800. 1st P800 acts as master so all controls are replicated on slave. I am reading comments by others who are having USB loop issues on their Pro-800s using Mac. I just got a replacement for mine and it's still messed up so I realized this is a systemic problem. I hope they fix it since I need to use the MIDI CC functions this allows. Both the ones I got were 1.8.1 and I updated to 1.2.6 and the problem remains. I've since found out there is a fix in settings that allows you to set MIDI thru to OFF. No idea why it is on by default but at least there is a solution. Thought I should add this to the above comment.

Awesome comparison . I also noticed that some of the ranges of env response and LFO etc are a bit limited, but it still allows you to get most of the sounds you want to get out of it. I imagine Behringer could pretty easy alow for a wider response if they wanted to, but perhaps the p16 is supposed to be the chosen one for that. Either way the P800 is an awesome little polysynth. It's actually quite the match to my P6 as well for about a fraction of the price.. Pretty crazy if you ask me.

The 800 is astonishing., The 1.26 update changes the envelopes to match much more those on the P5 (owned one for years). It's a game changer synth at this price, and augments the DM so well. This with my System-8 has given me back the JP8 and Pro5 sounds I remembered and loved in the 90s. The 1.26 update on the envelopes should be the first thing anyone does. Now makes it a 2600/MS-101/Wasp/DM/Pro800 and Pro-1 (which may or may not stay, as the 800 nails the sync sound I wanted from the sequentials) Makes other manufacturers prices look like a mockery (the big guns, as opposed to the smaller players, who don't have the economy of scale)... But even in those cases, some prices are ridiculous for what you get in comparison to this. Another great video Matt... nice one!
@klstay
@klstay Жыл бұрын
Behringer pricing is a result of 4 things - economy of scale, labor cost, economy of BOM, and product margin. There is a LARGE price difference when purchasing 2 million vs. 20,000 resistors. Labor cost at their factory is much less than in EU or US. (Longterm implications of being in China vs. Mexico are not encouraging however) Many would be surprised how little BOM difference there is on the voice and control components between Behringer and others; that part of the build is NOT where they save. They spend as little as possible in places where others spend more - there is a certain "aesthetic" expectation spending $3500 for a 6 voice 4 octave monotimbral synth after all. Additionally making an ever broadening range of synths allows use of common components where possible. (Same housing, keybed, chips, control routines, etc.) Margin is MUCH smaller not simply by making up the difference in volume which, if the only factor, would need to be higher. Music Tribe makes a lot of money across a broad range of products. The "clone" synths are passion projects. Each still has to be in the black, but not by as much.

This wasn't looking at the snappiness... the envelopes on both synths are different, so I'm not going into much detail on that - they're different, but so are lots of P600s - depending on if they have glibly and what glibly firmware they're using. This is demoing the amount of modulation on the filter envelope amount knob combined with the sustain level. Changing the envelope type doesn't affect the amount of modulation applied to the filter. Watch the full video when it comes in a couple of days it'll become clearer.

@@DanglyLingham OK... to be clear - its hard to match some tones because of the different ranges on the env amount.. so some patches may sound bassier because you want to include more high end transients at the start of the tone. They can both rattle my windows with subs, but the P800 can't scare the bats and rattle the windows with the resonance in a single tone. The P600 can... so there are some places the P600 can't reach (yet), but I think the demo shows it's a well worthy £329 8 voice analog poly.

Thanks for your great video! I am still in the process of comparing the two and while the P600 is definitely more alive (or, in the worst case, depending on how far apart the VCO chips in your P600 are, "alive" could actually mean: unplayable with poly-mod; yours sounds good, though), the basic feel and most patch types are very good, as you show very nicely. So basically it's very good work by Behringer and a good start. I do think that Behringer needs to clear some serious bugs. The head room of cut-off frequency als well as the range of filter env amount that you noticed are just wrong, neither like the P600 nor in any sense an improvement. This MUST be fixed. Since maybe Behringer will listen to you, you could also address the annoying bug that the menu parameters in performance mode are lost when you switch to preset mode and back (it then actually holds the menu parameter values of the last selected patch, which makes it even worse). And there's more, for example that pitch modulation by LFO and env doesn't take tuning in account, arrgh. But most can be fixed using software updates.

Your terrific comparison shows that it is indeed an authentic recreation of the original, and my complaint should mostly not be with Behrenger but with the original that it was closely modeled on. @@StarskyCarr The 600's CFW life cycle was as follows: Gligli released the first version (2013), Gligli released his last update (c. 2015), Matrix12x developed the white noise add-on (2020), Matrix12x added some new features to the firmware (2021), Imogen reworked heavily the firmware to optimize everything, fixed bugs, added new features, fixed a lots of other things such as the P5ish envelopes, usable LFO amount, a proper arpeggiator (I helped with this too) and a better UI (2022, the latest version). Sadly, Behringer firmware is based on the original Gligli's work and they never implemented all the nice improvements included in Imogen's firmware (I asked them lots of times to do it, but they just did't).

Great comparison Starsky, in a mix, you're not going to hear any difference, no one will know that there is a cheaper alternative, unless they've been told, and with mixes, unless the instrument is the only instrument in the mix, you again wont hear it. I don't know if it has been mentioned but the age of the P600 is now going to make it sound different than new, so this is something to possibly factor in. It would have been nice to have a new P600 but we all know that isn't possible. I did notice that with the resonance turned down, there was a depth of bass on the P600 slightly more noticeable than the 800, but then the 800 was clearer in the higher frequencies, this again can be attributed to the aging of the P600. None the less, great A vs B vid. In no way shape or form is a P600 worth 4 ~ 5 times more than a P800 when you're making music where the synth is not going to be in a mix by itself, it simply does not make any economic sense, especially when you're listeners will be none the wiser. 1 q, do the sequencers have step function or is it only real time?
