Without sounding daft, can you tell me exactly which ports were used on both the RD8 and MS1 as I'm having trouble triggering my RD8 and MS1 , thanks
@ZvookUK3 жыл бұрын
No prob. Patch one of the three trigger out ports from the RD-8 (the third i think is the rim shot - the one I use in the vid - although with the update you can assign any of the drums to any of the ports I believe. I just left it on the default setting) to the external clock in on the MS-1. That way every rim shot in a pattern you create will trigger the MS-1 to advance one step when either the MS-1’s arp (on hold for hands free) or sequencer is running. So the rim shot acts as an external clock tigger basically. You’ll need either a cable that has a 1/4” mono jack on one end and a 3.5mm mono jack on the other (or a mono 1/4” to 3.5mm adapter)

Got it going, had to enable trigger using the Synthtribe app. Now I think my RD8 is banging out too many pulses! 😂

@@mancavemusician if you have, say, 4 rim shots (or whatever drum you are using to trigger your MS-1) to a 1 bar pattern and are (for example) pressing a three note chord on your ms-1 while in arp mode, you will have 1 extra rim shot per looping bar/1 more rim shots than notes, so the looping arp will be syncopated (not repeat in time to the time signature, eg. 4/4). It might be that, that’s what is going on when you say the RS-8 is banging out too many triggers? Try making sure you have an equal amount of rim shots per bar / drum triggers and notes on the MS-1s arp or sequencer. So 4 notes and 4 drum triggers (or 4 notes and 8 triggers if you wanted the pattern /arp to loop twice per bar/pattern). Or is it not sending out the same amount of triggers as drum Triggers programmed to a pattern? Eg 4 rim shots per looping one bar pattern? If so is beat repeat on or something? But the more likely and obvious thing would be the equal notes to triggers per looping pattern I described above. Also - I never had to enable trigger in the synth tribe app. What exactly did the option say in the synthtribe app?

@@ZvookUK thanks for that makes perfect sense re triggers. In Synthtribe app (for MS1) there is an option for clock mode, gives options like trigger, gate, midi and auto. Unless I set it to trigger it doesn't work.

@@mancavemusician Right - I wasn’t aware of that. There must have been another update recently - I’ll have to check and update my RD-8 (unless the old defaults stayed the same despite the update I did - which, thinking about it may have been the case, as I had to delete all the existing blank patterns and songs on my RD-8 for the new default pattern settings to take effect). That’s good that we can select gate mode too - so we can use the trigger out as a gate as well as a trigger, which throws up all sorts of other possibilities… I’ll have to make a new video!

I was able to do this with my Grandmother and my RD8 the other day after watching your video where you triggered the 960 sequencer. Loads of fun, many thanks for the videos.

Aha! Routing audio into the ms101! That opens up so many possibilities. Thank you. Just got the ms101. It's nifty, but do not quite know what am doing yet. Having fun though.

Great - will have to do this with my MS-1 and the TR-8s. 👍👍

noice.. did this back in the dayz with the tr 606 trig and an juno 60 arp.. this can lead to very unexpected results in changing notes/steps on the rd 8 (606).

I also want such a bundle, there is already a drum machine RD-8, TD-3 and a behringer MS-1 is in the plans. I just want to learn the synthesis. Thanks for the video very much. I watched and listened with curiosity.

I've got the MS-1, really awesome job BeHringer did on it. I like your video with the RD-8... I really want to get an RD-6

Can you add some steps into the MS-101, and then trigger the MS-101 sequence with using the tr8 16 pads? Oops! 4:00 looks like you answered my question. Similar workflow, except for that swing activated, and also having to turn the glide knob per step. I could have sworn the SH-101, you just selected legato in the sequencer.

this is interesting so if i connect my mpc 2000 xl with my rd-1 i can play samples thru it? How would i do that with ext audio?

What port are you feeding the sample into on the MS-1? Love these tricks!

Crazy! I have the same setup (only with the ms1 mk2) and only my arp works. Unfortunately not the sequencer. In the synthtribe app it’s on activate. Do you have an idea what the problem is? It’s all up to date. Thx in advance 🙂

..and i‘m in „sync in“
@ZvookUK2 ай бұрын
@@domeniquexander_ -If youre set to sync in (i cant remember exactly what the settings are) it might be that the sequencer is waiting for an external sync signal before starting. So either set it to internal or sync out, or if you have it slaved to another sequencer (like the rd-8) make sure that its plugged in via sync in round the back of your ms-1 and its playing before you hit start on the MS-1's built in sequencer. The whole CV thing is a bit of a learning curve to get your head around at first.- *BUT In the video i think I had the rd8 trigger out connected to the ms-1 trig in and had the ms-1 set to sync out. As I was only using the trig connection between the rd-8 and ms-1*
@ZvookUK2 ай бұрын
*... so the rd-8 was triggering the next step in the sequence via trig not sync. - that's pretty important if youre following the set up in the video. So sync out on MS-1 settings but dont use the sync connection.*

You’ll just need to check it’s got the lastest firmware and update it. If you need to do that then you’ll need to erase patterns before you start writing them as it’ll have certain settings on as default until it’s erased. It’s not a big issue, just a habit you need to get into - just because the pattern is blank won’t mean it’s ready to get written to, as things like chance percentage will be set as “on” on default. Once it’s erased you’ll be good to go. You could probably erase the whole song just once (for each song). That’s probably a quicker way to go about it (rather than erase individual patterns).
