Rd9 has more punch in transients at the beginning of the sound and it's brighter. Individual outs is a great feature to run it through pre's on the analog mixer. An ability to mod it and if a component burns out, there is still a chance to save it in right hands. If Tr8 is bricked then that is the end of it.
@M1k1haus3 жыл бұрын
Both sound good. In a proper mix you could never tell the difference. I lean toward the TR8 because you can mix TR kits.
@tresporros2 жыл бұрын
rd9 is louder, but the difference is minimal. I own tr8 and that's my fav instrument for drum programming, especially, the on fly playing is amazing. Faders makes a big change, you kind of got a drum machine and a mixer (with actually 2 fx ). I used to own old machines, Akai, Emu/Ensonique, and tr8 gives me the most pleasure. I never was able to play live on MPC, it wasn't the same feeling, like on tr8 - it's just a blast. I must admit I focus on live performance, and I skip production/editing, so for my flow TR8 beats everything. Must admit I support myself with elektron cycles as additional drum machine:), but you know very well, that one drum machine is not enough:)

the RD-9 seems a little brighter , with more transients , especially at the end of each sound. seems to give just a tiny bit more. I have TR-8S and I love it, but it does seem to be a little dull and muddy. Now that I hear the RD-9, I may just get one so I can have that extra bite and clarity. Great demo on this.

I prefer kick and snare on behringer, but the difference is so small that it doesn't really matter in the mix. On the other hand, roland is much more versatile. I would be happy to use both machines.

The Behringer stands up very good to the Roland, don't like the color on the new Roland line, infact owned pretty much all the Rolands, the new Roland line for the past 20 yrs, is not of that quality they used to be, and too early released with lot of bugs, and flaws, that was not the case before 1995, Behringer is very much into fix eventual flaws and update where needed fast, also good buildquality, Roland had lost some of the old days exitment apeal to me, but that just my opinion =D Thanks for shareing

I'm going with the Behringer RD-9. The TR-8 seemed a bit duller and lightweight compared to the R-9 which had a heavier punch, more air and tighter transients. I own the TR-8, but the RD-9 is the clear winner here...

RD-9 got no Swing? Most companies put lil bit they own swing into sequencer, but the RD-9 sound all ridgid when sequencer is running.
@Instrumentals4Sale Жыл бұрын
The ‘swing’ on the tr8 is terrible, trust me that swing dial is a reason to avoid that model, which ever engineer decided it was a good idea to tie swing to a dial with zero visual indicators was a sadist. And the fact it can be easily nudged by accident (and lost forever) is a real annoyance. But considering the fact the rd9 does indeed have swing facilities, i assume when you say swing you meant timing instability? :) - which the tr909 had and the tr8 implemented as a settings option :)

Tough question. They both have great workflow. The TR-8 got the additional sounds/models and thus is more versatile. I'd probably go with that. But if it was just for the 909 sounds i'd go with the RD-9.
@raven-jz6cv2 жыл бұрын
Tr8 bd sounds more saturated from factort rd9 reminds me the first kick on the drumbrute. Is like my mother making cake and smashing on plates to find the proper one. But i mean for 300 euros and on the age of putting em all in the heavy dialed of digital workstations (the majority) u can make a pretty thick bad boy out of it. Plus its got proper outs... still tr8 all day long.

Behringer sounds better. Also, wasn't the digital Roland TR-8 $600 when it came out? Amazing how Behringer made an analog RD-8 and RD-9, both only costing $700 together. Then, Roland charged like another $100 to get more sounds added to the TR-8. I had the original Aira line up and ended up selling them.

Unfortunately the KZbin audio compression makes it difficult to hear the slight differences, the audio in the original video is much better. The 909 snare on the TR-8 is very weak, muffled, as are the Toms. Overall the RD-9 is much snappier, more dynamic, more transparent, even on the sample based HH, etc. But i actually like the Bassdrum on the TR-8 better. It has more weight in the lows and sounds rounder to me. I couldn't match the BD sounds even in RD-9 enhanced mode. But all in all the difference is not as big as i thought, and the additional sounds on the TR-8 and the workflow is pretty nice.
@Gainn2 жыл бұрын
the noise envelope on the TR8 (and S) is wrong. It's too high pitched to begin with, and changes with the pitch of the instrument. On the RD it stays the same pitch and just has some small harmonic changes.
@jezgomez2 жыл бұрын
@@umusic6 I think can really hear the difference in the snare & toms. They're just not quite thete on the TR-8. I'm absolutely certain it's something Roland could address in a firmware update if they wanted to but don't hold your breath!
