In this video, we will cover the basics of routing when using the Behringer X-32 Producer. We also cover using routing in DAW applications. The DAW that I use for the examples, in this case, is Cakewalk. We also cover what to do in routing so you can hear back what you already recorded while overdubbing. In addition to this, we will plug in external hardware and explain how to route this hardware using the mixer. We will cover how to use this hardware, in this case, the SD16 stage box, to record a track in Cakewalk.
I had many subscribers ask for this information. I finally made a video that covers a basic foundation.

Hi Marcus. A very detailed and very informative coverage of the X32 Routing. Thanks.....just a tip, as a sound engineer, I would use a Lavaliere or tie-pin wireless mic to record this video's audio to get a nice and crisp sound. Keep up the great work! Thanks.

This is a terrific description of the routing for the x series on a DAW. There are many videos out there that don't cover this in a good description like you have. Great job 👍

Hi, since you have x-live why not set the Rec/Play button to respective sources, setting it to automatic? This will switch back to your input source for recording when Card/usb playback is stopped. great video.

Hello. Can you explain how to set up a midas m32r with the cubase 11 for a home recording studio. I mean, routing is totaly confusing... Thanks

Great video, the Behringer is great mixer in many ways, but the routing is not intuitive. This really helps. On another note, I try to use Cakewalk to play back recordings through an X32 to do Virtual Soundchecks. I think I have the ASIO driver set up wrong or my Cakewalk channels are set up wrong. All the audio comes out channels 1&2 on the X32. I need them to play through the same channels they were recorded on. I'm sure I am missing something simple. Could you do a video on VSC with Cakewalk and the X32? I don't have X32 edit by the way.

First thing is the X32 edit is a free software program for the X32 mixer you should download it and install it so you can use it along with cakewalk. The X32 edit uses the Ethernet port to communicate with the mixer. You can plug the mixer into a router or directly into your computer. I have other videos that walk you through this process. If you want to play back the audio through the same channels they were recording on then there are some internal settings in the mixer you need to look at. You can set the number of recording outputs and inputs on mixer through the settings tab. If you choose 32 in and 2 out then you can record on any of the 32 channels inputs and you will send the recorded audio back through 2 channels for stereo. If you select 32 in and 8 out then you can have 8 channels to play back the audio. This allows you to mix in surround sound. If you want to use each channel individually then select 32 channels in and 32 channels out. Once you make this selection Cakewalk will see 32 output channels in the preference section under audio. you will need to select every output in preferences so they appear in the output section of your Cakewalk project. The routing for this will be more advanced and you will need to go to the patch points setting of the mixer to do point by point routing. If all you want to do is control the individual volume of each track that you recorded when it plays back then all you need to do is control those track volumes by using cakewalk instead of the mixer.

Absolutely first class explanation Marcus. Was just wondering playing a song back through the x32. It’s only two channels left and right stereo. Is it possible to play back all the tracks. What I mean is if I have say an 8 track recording. Can this be played back on the x32 into 8 channels 1 to 1 2 to 2 etc. I think the terminology is a virtual sound check. Can’t get this to work. Could you do a video on this please. Thank you.

Actually this is easier than you think. You just need to configure Your DAW app to play back through the channels you want. for example if you want to play back through 8 channels then you need to configure the X32 in the settings area as 32 tracks in and 8 out. You can change that to 16 channels in and 16 channels out. This will allow you to record on 16 channels and play back on 16 separate channels. You just route each track in the daw to one of the 16 outputs. you can also do 32 tracks in and 32 tracks out. at this point you will need to take advantage of point-to-point routing to do what you want. You're right though I need to do a video about this. As soon as my work slows down. Right now I am working about 60 hours a week but it will slow down soon. I will start making a few more videos and explain this.

Thank you so much. Your explanations and breakdown of the X32 Producer is top notch. It’s a lot of work and I think you should create a complete course and charge for this Marcus. It’s amazing how you’ve helped people. Look forward to the video when you can.

How can i use external compressors like the neve 543 with the x32 and sonar
@marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic Жыл бұрын
That's a good question. For recording tracks the solution is obvious, you just use the compressor in the signal path on the way to the X32. For mixing and mastering this becomes more complicated. For VCA compression aka "Voltage Controlled Amplifier." I typically use software. It is the most troubleshooting-free way of doing things. There are ways to connect this kind of hardware to the Behringer via insert. Hardware like the neve 543 could be connected in this manner but I have never done it.

As I understood there is 16 xlr inputs witch i can input 16 MONO synths so that every channel is one synth so every fader is also one synth OR I can have 8 stereo synths so every two closest faders becoming stereo (panned left and right respectivly) Then I can play simultaneously 16 mono synths and I can switch from 1-8 to 9-17 group by pressing one button and mix them as separate audio by separate faders? Is that correct? I have a real trouble i understanding this concept on X32Compact
@marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic Жыл бұрын
You are correct. but don't forget that you also have 6 aux inputs. This allows you to have an additional 6 mono synths or 3 stereo synths. This brings your total to 22 mono synths or 12 stereo synths. In addition to this you have an audio interface via usb. This allows you to use one of your physical synths as a midi controller via computer. you can have software synths installed on your computer and you can use tracks 17 through 32 to control those synths too.
