I'm relieved to see all the positive comments here. I've become shy about admitting I use Mixcraft because it seems all the videos comparing DAW's never use it in their comparisons. I began feeling embarrassed a little, like I was using the most child-like DAW in the world and real musicians would never use it. But the reason I started using version 7 was I got a free set of DAW tryouts on a plug-in CD player/recorder and tried a few but Mixcraft was the only one that I didn't have to study the instructions to begin using. Everything made perfect sense. Plus, the tryout was for a month only but I was able to retain all the work I'd done when that time expired. So, a few months later I bought it. I've kept up with new versions and the improvements have been great.

Great video, thank you! There are people who like to get nerdy with the technical details of the DAW they're using itself; and then there are people who like intuitive, easy-to-learn interfaces and want to mainly use the DAW to quickly get to work recording and editing music when the inspiration hits them. I've previously used Sonar, Cubase, and Ableton, but when I tried out Mixcraft I was hooked, because I am of the second variety of people mentioned above. Powerful, flexible, yet incredibly easy to use, Mixcraft continues to do the job for me, not to mention the incredible price and then bang-for-your-buck amount of plugins and content. It's a no-brainer for me.

Thanks. I am with you on this. There are certain types of software that I have relied on to make a living and use almost every day. It's worth making the investment of time for that. But for a DAW that doesn't get used daily, it can be hell to use if it doesn't just work when you need it.
@neighborsteffen37602 жыл бұрын
having tested all the DAWs mentioned in this video pluss some more, i can definitely say that Mixcraft is by far the easiest to use, Whether its recording or midi it always works, the user interface is flawless no matter what genre you are into the Mixcraft library contains thousands of high quality loops that will inspire you, that being said, i am no music producer, im a a hobby musician, i have used both mixcraft and fl studio since 2009, and while mixcraft have improved since those days, fl studio stays the same, for every new update fl studio feels different and you have to learn the program over again, mixcraft on the other hand have always kept its nice and tidy interface, no need to worry about clicking the wrong button and screw up your entire project, or spending hours figuring out why your midi keyboard don't connect, dont spend 200 hours troubleshooting one problem when you can spend 20 minutes in mixcraft making a song or tune, these are just my opinions, but also this video about mixcraft is the best best i've seen so far, make music, dont spend hours in the software jungle.

I’m quite happy to see a positive review as well as all these positive comments. I started causally recording music (myself and friends bands) in 2011 in high school. I was a total novice and can’t seem to remember how I landed on Mixcraft but it was the first DAW I used and what I learned on. As I got more experience and became more proficient at audio production I realized there were lots of more “legitimate” and popular DAWs out there and I experimented with a few of them. They all seemed overly complicated and not much more capable than Mixcraft so I just stuck with it. The past couple years I’ve done tens of hours of live recordings with my band, often recording up to 10 mic and DI channels at a time and then mixed those recordings using both the included and some additional effects plugins with great results. A few people I’ve played the finished recordings for couldn’t believe they weren’t professional recordings. I think that’s good enough for me. Recently I’ve thought about trying out another DAW but I really don’t see any reason now especially since I have 10+ years of experience with Mixcraft.
@GuitarBasement2 жыл бұрын
What do they say?...It's not what you've got, it's how you use it! Seems like you're doing some pretty elaborate recordings. Are you capturing those inputs from a digital mixer? Do you record direct from a mixer to a laptop? Just curious how that works.

@@GuitarBasement I’m using a multi input tascam usb audio interface into my laptop. Each mic input on the interface can be armed as it’s own recording channel in Mixcraft. I'm relating to this so much, except I tried more things: ACID Studio (I was actually good with until Sony gave up on it), different seasons of Reason, Cakewalk, and StudioOne (which is supposed to be straightforward and intuitive). I found myself never recording because it was easy to get bogged down. I only just learned about Mixcraft now, and, ironically, I learned about it in a forum for an instrument (Roland MV-1) that records 100% without a DAW (which I am now turning to because I think I'll actually be able to get some stuff done).
@GuitarBasement3 жыл бұрын
I forgot to mention that when I first tried this I connected a MIDI keyboard. It pickup up the device without any fuss - nothing to configure. One of these days I was thinking to spend time to setup the sliders on the keyboard to adjust volumes etc. I messed around a little with that but gave up. Perhaps one day I'll try again. That Roland sounds good, but how would you edit, or don't you need to?
@JasonHader3 жыл бұрын
@@GuitarBasement I've been waiting two months so far for mine to arrive, so I still don't have it. It utilizes a step sequencer to record which I assume is actually a simplification of what it can actually do. I had a Roland XP-80 in the 90s and 2000s, which could sequence 16 tracks. There was quite a lot you could do if you dug into the menus ("menu diving" as they call it now). I think the same is true here, though Roland has gotten smarter about how they organize an instrument like this. I think this unit will be a dream come true for a dream I never really had. I would have loved the ability to record music and vocals on a single, small form factor device decades ago. You only have seven tracks aside from vocals, but that may be an acceptable limitation for me. You and I are probably also alike in that watching videos of some people making music on the device can be frustrating as some people clearly demonstrate zero adherence to actual music theory.

Thank you for your interest. I am making videos on my KZbin channel. I want the audio to be professional and good. in your opinion do i Use mixcraft or audio directer from cyberlink , which is better. Thank you.
@GuitarBasement3 жыл бұрын
Are you using PowerDirector for videos? Then perhaps AD will interface well with that. I never tried it. They have a trial: www.cyberlink.com/downloads/trials/index_en_US.html. Once your audio is digital there should be no difference in quality which interface you use. You could even use Audacity for free. Perhaps it would be helpful if I make a video of my solutions that I have tried over the past few years. Recently I tend to record audio directly into Mixcraft while recording video on the camera. Then I drag the video into mixcraft to line up the tracks before sending the result to PD. You could also record direct into Audacity, then bring audio and video together in your video editor. I don't think there is one BEST solution for everyone.

Does this software allow independent live loop length audio recording where tracks with different loop lengths are still looped in sync ? I know abelton live can do that so I'm trying to figure out which other DAWs have that option.
@GuitarBasement4 жыл бұрын
Yep it does. You just window around whatever you want to loop and it plays whatever is inside. It's great for practicing a part before adding it to the mix. I use that a lot.
@redbirdsaraceno4 жыл бұрын
GuitarBasement Sweet ! Thank you . I asked this question on the LiveLoop software demo vids and some guy told me they were the only software that has that feature but i thought there must be a couple other ones that can do that. By window around do you mean open another loop window while others are playing in the back ground or you can move each loop around the window independently ? Im not too familiar with software at other than apps . I use hardware samplers and loopers, but I want to try DAWs .

I've used Mixcraft for many years and it's great except it does crash quite often (on multiple different systems). Even the latest version it will often crash if I load a VST plugin while the track is playing so I now avoid doing that and always pause the song before loading effects. I stick with Mixcraft despite its shortcomings because I can get stuff done quickly and find the other software like Reaper too difficult to learn.
@GuitarBasement4 жыл бұрын
Over the years I found recording in general got better (less crashes) because of faster hardware. Like you said, you can avoid doing what causes crashes. I do the same thing. But after upgrading my PC last year I noticed that I can get away with more things like loading effects during playback. However, I still don't like to push my luck! Perhaps other systems are coded more efficiently? Do you have experience with other DAWs being more robust?

what is difference between mixcraft and audio director 11
@GuitarBasement3 жыл бұрын
I think you are referring to Cyberlink Audio Director. This looks like another DAW software that interfaces with Cyberlink Power Director. I use PowerDirector for video, but I sometimes mix sound and sync with the video in Mixcraft - especially if it has music. Mixcraft does a great job and is easy to use. Power Director has very poor sound mixing capabilities, so perhaps Audio Director may be a good solution if you want to integrate easily with PD.
@zackstone13473 жыл бұрын
Why does it crash with so many plugins? Is this common?
@GuitarBasement3 жыл бұрын
Hi Zack, it's impossible to know what you have going on there. I also don't know your experience, your computer configuration and what you are comparing this to. I rarely have issues on my 9th gen I5 and 16GB RAM. I also try to use "best practices" and create "send" tracks. This is a more efficient use of system resources because you add plugins to be shared by multiple tracks. If you load up multiple tracks each with their own plugins you are making your system do more work. I honestly can't remember my last crash with Mixcraft. Oh, but it was struggling a little when I had several video clips on top of a bunch of audio tracks! Mostly it does pretty good for me.

(1/4) (This comment has been auto-censored 2 times so far, so I have split it into parts to figure out what's tripping up the YT algorithm; check the replies for the other parts) I can definitely understand getting frustrated with Ableton Live. it has a neutral interface, without any visual cues or design choices made to draw your eyes to anywhere in particular; it's very flat and even. I've been using it for around 8 years now (first 9 Intro, then 3 years ago until now 10 Suite), once I got used to it and got to know it better, it became the most psychologically ergonomic software I've ever used. I'm at the point with it now where I wouldn't trade it for anything else.
@mikeexits2 жыл бұрын
(2/4) But my very first DAW was Mixcraft. I believe it was version 5. That gave me my very first experiences in creating music, even though it was just me dragging loops in, then later I figured out how to add effects and recorded a few terrible vocals here and there. I moved onto FL Studio for some reason - I guess Mixcraft didn't feel as professional as what I was looking for at the time - and used Logic 9 (and later Logic X) in my high school music production class.
@mikeexits2 жыл бұрын
(4/4) But I think if I didn't have those initial creative experiences with Mixcraft earlier on, some of the important seeds that have lead me on this journey to eventually "going professional" might not have been there to sprout, and my life could potentially have changed a lot. So it'll always hold a special place in my heart. I will say, version 9 looks fantastic, especially with the newly included plugins.

Hey thanks for persevering with the comments! I just see 1, 2 and 4 comments - no 3. I understand about persevering with software since professionally I've used various CAD systems over about 30 years. Each has it's quirks, yet once you know them they can be a breeze and be extremely powerful. The thing is, if you only do something infrequently, the next time you go back to it you forgot everything! For me right now, Mixcraft does the job and has enough power. However I can guess that there are more efficient DAWs for professional work. Perhaps in the next Mixcraft version the interface will become more professional. I hope so.

You are right John. I use Audacity more like a utility. It's great for turning the stereo track from my camera into mono. My camera only records on one side with a mic plugged in.
