Considering the Keyboard version prototype was shown ages before this was announced I was surprised this one hit the market, it would seem for some reason (probably the fact the Kobal is more niche) they scrapped a keyboard version 🥲
@toddsmithmusic31727 ай бұрын
I guess it could depend on sales and all that stuff. Hope you’re having a good day my friend !

@@toddsmithmusic3172 yeah, my guess is they realized with the pic they dropped on the keyboard the interest and awareness wasn’t their, but if the kobal sells well enough they may drop a keyboard version 🙏🏼

I like that the Kobol is black and looks like an old school workhorse synth. All those patch points and the sound make it a winner. I currently only own their TD-3, but the Kobol might be my next, the Model D seems like a must have too.

All great synths for sure.

Great video man! I think once I get around to picking up a mono synth it'll likely either be this one or the Model D.

It’s pretty solid for the price tag.

I have the CAT, Model D, and the Kobol - I like them all but the Kobol is definitely the one that I would keep if I could have only 1.

I'm on the verge of selling my Neutron. The assign output went noisy out of nowhere and I can keep living with that, but I've always missed having a proper 2-knob oscillator mixer (complete with their respective CV inputs). I just don't do it because it was my first synth.

How long did you have it till the noise issue kicked in ?

@@unclemick-synths I'll have to make the time someday and take a look myself. I've had bad luck with synths: I also have a Novation Circuit with a jumpy encoder which makes it almost unusable as a groovebox, the good thing is long before it failed I stopped using it as a groovebox, it works better as a bi-timbral sound module, for me...

@@SynthfulDuck I hear you. I've been in the process of refurbishing one synth for decades and another has a dodgy volume control that works if I thump it! 😀

I really should get one. $199 for all versatility into a setup or stand alone is great.

I have been tempted by the Kobol, but with Proton and 2-XM still coming I have not pulled the trigger and may not. Cat is by far my favorite of their mono synths. SO easy to dial in such a wide range of amazing sounding bass patches without the phase issues that can be a hassle with something like the Model D or anything relying on a 2nd oscillator for sub-octaves.
@toddsmithmusic31726 ай бұрын
CAT is amazing !

I've been waiting on the keyboard version if the Kobol ever since Behringer revealed the prototype in a January 2021 photo (or was that Jan. 2022?). The keyboard version was teased long before the module. I'm surprised the module was released first. Then again, the keyboard version us nore complex with preset memory, sequencer, etc... So yeah, I can see development taking longer on it. I don't care either. I'd rather Behringer take their time and get it right the first time than rush a half-baked product out with flaws. So yeah, I will patiently wait on the keyboard version of the Kobol until it is finally ready, however many months or years that may be. One thing I can say about the Kobol is Behringer is working in collaboration with one of the designers of the original RSF Kobol during the development process. Perhaps that's why it sounds so good. It's being done RIGHT!

I think all the Behringer mono I own are great. I’m impressed with every unit I own. I can see why others think others are the best, Kobol just fits my style without trying at all and sounds amazing. Many state the Odyssey as their favorite. That’s one I’ve yet to touch.
@kvmoore17 ай бұрын
@toddsmithmusic3172 Yes, I own the Odyssey as well and it is great. It's a wonderful synth for bass and lead parts. I also have a B2600 Grey Meanie and it's a wonderful synth as well. So far, the only Behringer synth I was disappointed in was the Poly-D.

I have to admit that I haven't had my grubby paws on many Behringer synths. I only own the Pro-1 and the RD-6. The Pro-1 gives me nice leads and effects though I rely on my Twisted Electrons TherapSID for some nice leads. The TD-6 with distortion on gives me a perfect foundation for something Sleaford Mords inspired stuff that I am working on. I do however think a Kobol with keys would complement that nicely in regards to bass.
