A great board - if it weren't for the completely failed sequencer. You can't switch patterns on the fly! To change a pattern you have to press "stop" and call up the next one - an epic fail. The annoying thing: with the little brother, the JD-Xi, you can change patterns while the sequencer is running.
@toddsmithmusic31722 күн бұрын
Sound design and front end control is the main point of this board. That alone is worth the price , definitely used. Adding my MC-707 or any external sequencing device fixes any sequencing issues

I sold my minikorg and bought a JD-Xi. I like the filter sweeps better on the microkorg, but prefer the wide range of patch sounds on the JD-Xi. I hope they make a MKII edition!

Hey Todd do you make your own sounds?
@toddsmithmusic31722 күн бұрын
Most time I layer and manipulate things to my liking. This video was a handful of digital “presets” that kept my overall settings and FX as I changed the presets. That’s one of my favorite aspects of the Xa. All the effects and slider/knob settings stay the same as you change digital/analogue sounds. Allowing you to explore different sounds with your current settings.

Where is the SD1?
@toddsmithmusic31723 күн бұрын
It’s a SD-1. When Ensoniq was around you could send in units to get upgraded chips because the used the same case design.

@toddsmithmusic31724 күн бұрын
JD-Xa has 4 analogue parts. Still a few months till I move into my new place. Till then I’ve got limited room to work with in terms of gear. Once I get into my new place all my other gear will be out at one time.

Could you play a whole set with the MC707? Like an hour+ worth of different tunes? As far as I understand this machine doesn't have a song mode... I'm just curious how that could be accomplished.

Sweet. How about some distortion on some of the drum parts? Just a tiny bit? If you're dawless, I'm wondering if there's some cool distortion pedals that have some bit-crunch features? I love the Krush vst. If I were to go dawless, I'd love to have something like it in a box. Cheers.

This is a first draft. I plan to evolve it, add voice samples and will play with some effects on the drums. 707 has bit crusher and distortion

Was just going to say the same thing. That box seems like a bargain. I still keep looking at it. Seems a lot going on, but for me 'just' short of the mark on several fronts. Only 4 voice analog, only 4-octaves, limited sequencing, a little lacking in the robust build quality. just a little bit hard to get head around. But still love the hybrid approach, and sounds great. Real filters vs. modeling.

Well done. I really wish someone would make a drum machine where all the stock samples didn’t suck. I’ve owned and tried so many drum machines over the years and every single one the drums were abysmal.
@toddsmithmusic317210 күн бұрын
These are all stock that come from unit
@AbominusRules10 күн бұрын
@ yeah I know. That’s my main complaint with drum machines. The stock samples are bad. It forces folks like me to use a sampler instead, which isn’t a bad thing, but a drum machine should have good samples by default.
@toddsmithmusic317210 күн бұрын
@@AbominusRules I don’t think these samples on the 707 are “bad/horrible” they are decent for Roland style drums. Adding up ur own samples definitely spices things up
@toddsmithmusic317210 күн бұрын
@@AbominusRules If it’s a sampler/drum machine I guess it’s easier to fix. A straight up drum machine you don’t like can’t offer a lot
