👊Let me know if you have any other questions! Two things we didn't talk about...The design of the consoles and the price. I thought the Behringer Wing looked a little odd when I first saw it, but it's really grown on me. It has a modern look and feel that made the X32 feel a bit antiquated to me. The X32 does have the upper hand in price @ $2500 vs $3498, but as I mentioned in the video, I think if the Wing is in your mixer budget it makes sense to future-proof yourself.

A huge feature of the X32 is the ability to save part of your config - I believe they refer to them as "snippets". For example, say you have a channel worth of settings dialed in for a vocalist - you can save just that channel and everything related to it, and if you ever need them back you can restore just that portion without having to wipe out the rest of your board configuration. I'm shocked at how few other consoles can do that. It's save/restore the entire console settings or nothing. Imagine if you wanted to share a PDF file with a friend and you had to give them a clone of your entire hard drive, and if they wanted to read it they had to overwrite their hard drive with the clone of your hard drive just to read that one file. It's beyond idiotic. I hope the wing still supports snippets or the ability to save just a part of a console config. Biggest disappointment with the Soundcraft we got talked into instead of the M32 - it never occurred to me that digital desks wouldn't support such obvious functionality. Thanks!

@@TheGearCage that's AWESOME! I must admit that my entire "infrastructure build plan" got sideswiped over the weekend. It looks like I won't be going with a similar "Live" equipment based, home recording solution until I move (exepected in 2022)... However by then, the studio may be up to speed with CAT6a/CAT7 connected booths to the control room. In the meantime, it looks like i'll have to go with Universal Audio Unfortunately (for me) as I am looking to pick up a Sphere L22, and that will allow me to maximize my investments. Watched the video... nice job. Been an x32 m32 user for years and loved how the updates into version 4 changed the board (my sound company owns 10 of the various mixers all the way down to the rack X32) When it comes down to brass tacks, should I pull the trigger or wait? Right now I have capability to back up shows and move in other consoles if we have issues like loss of AES busses, etc. What is the reliability of the wing? When it comes down to it having the ability to flow from one console to another with the x/m 32 line has saved may butt many times when something fails right before showtime. If I am going to venture into the wing line, is it reliable at this time or should I wait. Simply do not want to reinvent the wheel and have to buy multiple consoles like I did way back during version 1 and 2 of the x/m32 line. Thanks in advance.

My friend, reading what you & nublack music were discussing, I was thinking about buying the wing. 1 question I'd like to know is how about recording? I'm using Logic 10, 64 bit mac and 6 terabytes. Plus I have a Grammy nominated Mastering specialist here in Atlanta that I use. Would that be suffice for "home recordings" that can compete with the big guys on the radio? I'm an Artist, Singer, Songwriter Producer going into mixing my own music. For 1, I know how I want my mixes to be and 2, saving$? What say you? I sent this same question to nublackmusic and would like to hear both opinions. Thx for the video very informative because I wanted know how the wing stood up to the X32!!

Hello Kaye, thanks for watching! You can definitely make some solid recordings with the wing. The mixing and mastering stages are critical for that and the recording quality of the wing is definitely capable. However, to help take your game to the next level I’d probably look into the Apollo Interfaces from Universal audio. That might help with creativity and it would have better sound quality in a recording only situation.

DUDE! That music in the background is set at one of the most PERFECT compared to vocals, which I have EVER HEARD in a video!!! It is present. However we can hear you VERY CLEARLY with NO strain. +100Points With all of that stated, the choice of music (while all music is great in its own right), is DISTRACTING AS HELL after a while. You are laying out great facts in product comparisons and I am hearing you, as I become increasingly agitated and irritable from the severely contrasted tone one Metal wailing in the background. -10Points All of that behind us, i'd LOVE to hear a comparison of both for audio production via DAW software (my preference would be Nuendo (Cubase is close though). However, if you use neither, then i'd be more than happy to hear your opinion about studio recording comparisons between them using any DAW... And, it'd be really awesome if you simply used inane elevator music in the background, or even better... no background music. Thank you for both your time to review my comments, and and possible consideration which you lend them.

How we view solutions moving forward, and provide cost savings and efficiencies which will blow people's tops right OFF!!! ;-) Unfortunately, I need a base layer of equipment to pull it off, and I don't really know if I can make It too far beyond the new year... ...I'd love to just grab the x32, but I need the Waves SG card, which means an AES to USB adapter, which means loss of an AES50 connection (and possibly lower throughput via usb, I cannot recall). Hi! Very nice video! I wanted to point out about the stereo workflow of the wing. As you said it is a very nice feature that can make your channel counts significantly lower. That's right, but it is not the best part of the story. 4 stereo channels take 8 faders in the X/M32 consoles. In the the Wing, you just need 4. And when talking about live audio swapping layers is a very time consuming thing. I mean the console responds instantly and it takes about a second for you to focus on the layer changes, but every second counts in any live situation. Less layer swaps = quickest workflow. Having all the things i need simultaneously without the need to change layers is one of the things i like so much about the Wing. And it is not only the customizable layers, you also have a lot of extra bindable controllers in the Wing that makes you a speed demon!

Hey Ryan, great video! I've got a question. Does the WING have the capability to run a FOH Mix and control a DAW recording session simultaneously? (For Example: Running a FOH Mix for a church service and controlling a Pro Tools session for Live Stream) Thanks!!
@TheGearCage
@TheGearCage 3 жыл бұрын
Hey John, thanks for watching! That’s a great question too. I’ll have to dig in to know for sure, but I believe you can. The wing can activate DAW mode on banks of faders you choose meaning you can operate your FOH mix and your stream. I don’t believe it’s possible for there to be a 1 to 1 relationship because they need to be setup separately. For the sake of simplicity it’s probably best to stream the FOH channels into the computer via USB or Dante and then use an X-touch controller for dedicated daw control depending on how complex your setup is. That way, you could send returns back on a Dante network to the Wing to check, but have the XTouch handle it almost like a dedicated mixer.

As an old country tune would go: "It's me again..." LOL SO, quick question. As I keep asking about Behringer X32 & Wing... One thing which may be different than interfaces I have dealt with that have DSP, is that the DSP for interfaces can sometime be applied A.) exclusively to incoming signals, B.) sometimes to the channel itself, or C.) Both. I am wondering how both of these boards handle it. I may do some things with the rack where I record remotely, or stream a show... however studio focused production is my primay concern. SO, what I am wondering is: 1.) If I want to apply the "modeled outboard gear" or other DSP effects to audio channels within Nuendo or other DAWs, will I be able to process them as effects within the DAW 2.) Would I have to apply them from another non-DAW connected menu 3.) Will I be unable to apply board/Rack effects to the dry samples?
@TheGearCage
@TheGearCage 3 жыл бұрын
Great question. The onboard DSP is just applied on/through the console itself. So anything you run into the console from a live mic or a computer input can be processed on the console. So a bit of a different idea then like a Universal Audio UAD2 system that uses external DSP for processing.

Really happy with the user friendliness that the Wing offers, very easy (once you get used to it) to flow through the device since you can custom place your channels and sources anyway you want. What I am really REALLY hoping for, is that they make a smaller version of the wing for home studio use. The LED display and channel LED architecture is very attractive and inviting feature to have on a mixer, I'd rather not have any alternative mixer and hope they make a smaller version similar, or other companies take notice of their design.

@@cdubb9781 Routing on the X32/M32 is in groups of 8. The wing appears to allow individual point to point routing which is huge. On the X32/M32 if you only needed 2 of the built in pre's on the back of the console, mapping them into your routing/channel mapping still consumes 8 channels out of your overall routing/channel mapping - you "waste" 6 channels. @vicvicmoon5540
@vicvicmoon5540 Жыл бұрын
While the colored scribble strips are a useful feature, it's not too big of a deal to label the channels with a piece of colored tape (it takes me about as much time as I had to virtually match colors on the X32 on the screen)... As for the smaller number of faders on the Wing, that's actually just an illusion, because where the X32 uses two faders per stereo input, only one is enough on the Wing. Thus, in most cases, the number of faders is basically doubled, since stereo is mainly used anyway.

That’s a really great question. I think it has to do with the amount of DSP required. Also, running at a higher sample rate doesn’t necessarily give you higher sound quality. Case in point, the Wing will sound leagues better than an 02r because of better converters and having a lot of DSP dedicated to truly high quality FX.

@@TheGearCage no sorry 24-bit 96khz is Leaps and Bounds ahead of 24-48 if you are trying to get the sound of the big league consoles and also yes the wing is a great mixer I personally had a X32 but the sound quality is nowhere near the quality of the O2 r96 and the dm2000 running at 96 Hertz but as you well know all of that is subjective thanks for the video and the response

You would think so, but it’s not true. Think about it. There have been audio interfaces on the market for 15-20 years capable of recording at 24/96 or even 24/192. The newer stuff available today sounds better at 24/48 than most if not all of those did at 24/192. The same principles apply here.that’s not to say mixers like the 02r or PMD or others sounded bad because that’s not true either. What it really means is that you can get a stellar console for less than 5k that bests consoles that cost many times more a decade ago. That’s technology. Mixing chops and band talent and PA system will make a way larger impact all things considered.

@@TheGearCage thank you for the friendly and cordial conversation us gear guys love this kind of talk but anyway there is a reason why all of these Stellar consoles as you call them operate at 48 they are sound reinforcement consoles basically glorified PA consoles. the X32 and the wing are not recording consoles if you want to record you need to have the capability of going to 96 and it has been that way for a long time even the Tascam dm3200 mixer operates at 96 and I have heard that compared to my X32 and it was no contest so again I would say I just don't understand why they can't make these mixers function at 96 remember Midas has mixers the operate at 96 as well as Allen & Heath most recording level consoles for the recording studio operate at 96 Behringer knows this because they pulled a fast one on everyone when they said the Midas M32 would do 96 and it does not the music industry always settles for the lowest common denominator they do not do that in the film world. thanks again for the great conversation

I really wish the whole "Mic pre" thing would just go away. The mic pre on pretty much any digital console in the sub 10k market all sound very similar. Your P.A , mics, and sound engineer play a much bigger role in how the overall sound is judged/perceived than the lonely old mic pre. I don't know where you got the 120db DA output specs for the M32??, That's not right, check the user manual for the M32, the AD/DA specs are identical to the X32... Actually i can send you some spectrum analyzer screen shots of the berry vs Midas mic pre , I can tell you the difference is negligible, to the point that at a live gig i would challenge anyone to tell the difference. The M32 is basically an X32 with a face lift cosmetically . I get that is prolly more rider friendly than the X32 , but if you don't need that "Midas" badge on the console then save yourself a couple of K and just get whatever form factor X32 you want, you can thank me later. Now the Wing is a different beast again as it's internal AD/DA conversion is better (on paper at least) than both the X32/M32, so you would expect a bigger difference in the sound quality there , but it's still not night and day. If you really want to take a considerable step up from the sub 10k market you need to spend about 10 x the price. My advice, get the X32 , it's the cheapest, it sounds just as good as both the M32 and the wing, and spend what you save on a holiday to Fiji.....:)
