Very good information! Do you know if you can have midi out during adding tracks when recording? Thinking of using midi to sync when adding synths in several recording sessions.

the X-Live card can also handle bigger SD-card than 32 GB. But you can´t format SD cards with more than 32 GB within the card (x32 / m32 mixer) You have to insert larger SD cards into your computer and format them to fat32 if you want to erase recordings on them an reuse the cards with the X-Live card. Please always test the cards before use. That is also useful for 32 GB cards. The card have to be fast enough (Class 10).

I don't recommend using the adapters with microSD's... They add a fault point between your live performance and your media.

@Marcus Curtis Music can EQ & Effects be recorded on each track on the X Live during recording or can it be added during Play back??

Sorry for the late reply. I am not sure. I do know that you can use the effects on the mixer to record on your computer. I found ways to do this through creative routing. I would say that it is possible but I am not sure. I guess the thing to do is to run some tests and see if the way you record effects on the mixer also works on the X-live card. I did two videos explaining how to do it. this first one is here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnfKqJ2hereYmrc

Hi again. The xlive card is licensed to use SDHC but that does not mean you cannot use SDXC cards. You can and it will work perfectly well, the limitation is that Behringer only bought a license for SDHC. These must all be class 10 cards... Yes dropping the sample rate from 48 to 44 gets you an extra 20 minutes, but reducing the tracks when not needed to say 16 will double the recording time to 6 hours if 64Gb is installed or 24 hours when 2x 128Gb are installed. That is another issue it still records tracks even if empty. Why not just buy a 10" Windows 10 tablet with 128Gb SSD and USB some even have TF Card slots? It will cost about the same as the xlive card with 2x SDCards. Then you have complete flexibility of recording playback and over dubbing if you run a DAW on the tablet even giving full remote control of the X32 over USB and it offers wireless remote if you have a wireless hub attached to the x32. That is what I am doing and I think its a million times better.

I have tried using an SDXC micro SD card in my testing and I could not get it to work. that does not mean it won't work on a regular SD card. But it would not recognize the SDXC card in my mixer. Thank you for bringing up the option of switching the tracks from 32 tracks to 16 tracks to get more time on the Card. This was something I was going to cover in the next video. I was just going on the total time for 32 independent tracks. The whole point of these videos is about testing the card to see what it can do outside of using external hardware or computers. I agree with you, It may be better to use external hardware. That would require bringing a modem connecting via wireless to control the mixer. If I were going to pack external gear in addition to the mixer my preference would be a laptop. That way I could use a mouse and plug it directly into a router for the app. I plan on covering some of these things in the next video. Thanks for your input.

Hi Marcus, thanks so much for the great video. I've been searching for a way to play a 32 track pre-recorded song through the X32 (I wanted each track to play out of a different speaker). I realized what you did around 11:30 is exactly what I'm trying to do. Can you tell me how you recorded the song you already mixed on your computer (Cakewalk) into the X32-Live SD card?
@marcuscurtismusic
@marcuscurtismusic 3 жыл бұрын
Most of this information is in the video series. I recorded the song using 8 outputs from my Tascam audio interface. I went directly into the mixer. This was just to serve as an example. I wanted 8 independent live sources. You don't need to do anything like this. You can record your audio tracks directly from cakewalk into your X live card using the Behringer mixer.

Can the x32 still playback audio from the x-live card while being able to record the playback from the x-live card as well as additional inputs from the console in your DAW? Lets say I want to play a clicktrack and some additional instruments through the x-live; but still want to have the console be used during a performance for sound reinforcement as well as recording into a DAW. It shouldn't interfere with the routing you made to have it function with a pc while being used as an interface?

The X live card will play back audio while you record tracks into your computer. The new video series I started explains this in detail. However, The tracks you record will be recorded on your computer. The X-live card will operate as an audio interface. When it comes to live recordings The X-live card also offers the ability to record on 32 separate tracks but you can't overdub. The recordings are stored on SD cards located on the X-live card. The X-live card will only allow you to use one thing at a time for playback. You can either use the USB connection or the SD card. There may be a way to select the USB connection for playback and then use routing to direct tracks from your DAW into the SD card while recording live tracks. I have not experimented with it. The method I am using is to use an additional audio interface and route it into the mixer in order to record tracks from my DAW. You could blend live tracks with recorded tracks using an additional audio interface. but I have not tried to do this with just the X-32 alone. I would need to run some experiments to figure it out.

Not to my knowledge. It would be nice if Behringer had an app that would allow you to do this. That is one of the drawbacks of using the card. If I want to transfer the audio from the card I got to play it back via the card live and re-record the audio into my DAW program. One of the videos I made about the X-live card demonstrates this process but I don't remember which video it was.

Yes of coarse you can. The file recorded is in a multi-channel wave format. Most DAWs will have the ability to split these into the individual tracks. Behringer in fact suggests the free 'Audacity' program to do this. You can also use much higher capacity SD cards, theoretically up to 2TB, only you must format them in FAT32 file format. There are various programs that can achieve this.

So, I will be able to use both. That's a good start. Now my next question: Both at the same time? (example: Recording a LIVE stereo audio MIX on the fly with the USB thumb drive, while playing with faders, fade in, fade out, mute, Eq, etc) AND also recording on the SD cards all the unaltered tracks for ulterior work (mixing in a DAW) ? Maybe you have to choose which one (USB thumb drive or SD card) you're going to use in the setting menu? I can't find this info. Thanks for your videos! Thanks for your answer! @@marcuscurtismusic

@@pierreparadis9626 To my knowledge you can only do one at a time. I have never tried to do both and I don't think it is possible. I could be wrong, there may be some secret way that I don't know about. But I am going to say you can only record on one option at a time. Your choices are USB stereo track or eight separate tracks with the X live Card.

What determines/controls the recording levels to the card? I will be using this for virtual soundchecks, so I need the level recorded to be the same (when played back) as the level I would get live, so that compressors etc can be set properly later, after doing the live recording. I'm guessing it doesn't go through the Gain (HA) settings of the channels twice, once on record and then again on playback? So presumably what is recorded is pre-Gain (actually 'pre-everything', I suppose). So how do I know that I'm not over-driving (clipping) on the card's record levels during recording (or indeed under-driving), or is this somehow not possible? But something must be determining what the actual recorded levels are! Perhaps all HA gains are considered to be at 0dB (regardless of their actual setting during recording)? Hopefully not some form of automatic record level control. As you can probably tell, I'm rather confused how this card works with the levels. The actual recorded levels must also be pretty important in some applications where the the recorded files are imported into a DAW, but I can't find any decent info on this whole subject anywhere. Any help much appreciated, thanks.

So I have been running some tests to try to work this out. So far it seems that if you are recording from an XLR input (I'm using local, but probably also AES50 S16, S32, etc) then the Gain setting during recording does affect what level gets recorded, BUT if you are recording from an AUX (jack) input then the Gain setting does not affect it - in that case it records at the equivalent of a 0 gain setting regardless. The Gain setting during playback is also relevant - you can set this to whatever you like during playback, but it looks like it needs to be at 0 in order to get the same level through the channel as you had during recording. After playback, the Gain setting jumps back to what it was before - but it seems to remember the 'playback gain' that you had set, and next time you do a playback it jumps back to that setting again. This seems to make some sort of sense and be 'useful' (e.g. you wouldn't want mic gain applied twice over) - provided you know what to expect. If anyone can correct or expand on the above, or knows where all this is properly documented or fully explained then please post info here! Thanks.

I am sorry for the late reply. I have been off line for a while. I have not worked with the X-live card much but my testing showed the same results. The gain setting during recording typically works on the XLR inputs built into the mixer and the inputs from the stage boxes plugged into the AES50 port. The gain setting in the aux channels does not. I have not had time to test for a solution. This is also the case when using a DAW, depending on how you have the routing set up. If you select Auxin1-6/T in routing under the card tab then the gain and channel controls are bypassed during recording. This also means no EQ, compression, gate, ect. Aux1-6M in routing located in the card section is supposed to allow you to use those functions, but I have not tested it.

@@gastube22 as far as I know that is correct. It works the same as if you were sharing preamps for a monitor and FOH using the same pres. One is controlling the preamp gain and the other has digital trim. When recording you're setting the preamp gain. During playback you are setting digital trim.
