A much needed video (which I'm surprised I had missed). This is one of the least understood areas of consoles in general.

Hello Drew My band is using a single X 32 rack and we have five members. Drummer, bass player, guitar player, two singers and four channels of sequences. Everyone in the band is on in ears. Everyone except the drummer is wireless (mono feed) and the drummer has a wired stereo feed. Output one through four are used for the two singers, bass player and guitar player and output five and six used for the drummer. Seven and eight are used for the front of house. Currently, on the routing tab for the analog outputs, we have all the in ear monitor settings tapped at post Fader. Obviously, the difficulty that this presents is that anytime the front of house engineer mixing equalization or compression adjustment, the performers hear it in their monitors. However, if I switch the tap point to pre-Fader so that the performers don't hear these changes at front of house, then we are left without hearing any equalization or compression. But if the tap point is set at prefader the equalizer and compressor on the output don't seem to work either. Ideally we would like to be able to have everyone on in ears be unaffected by the FOH engineers EQ and compression changes but still eve able to have EQ on the mix bus sends to their in ear mixes. How do we do this.
@peterdeboer429610 жыл бұрын
Mayby a tip. If you have any channels left, route the vocals to other channels. This way you have a vocal Channel for The FOH and for The monitors. On the FOH Channel use compressor en do not send to the monitor buss. On the monitor channel do not send to FOH en do not use compression, you even have separate eq. Just a tip Thans for all your vids Drew !

This is actually the way that I currently resolve the "compressor in monitors" issue. The problem is the "...if you have any channels left."

Is there a way to have a channel mute switch mute the same channel in a bus on the x32? I have one channel that needs to be muted when not in use, but there is not an easy way to unmute the channel and unmute the channel on the bus at the same time.

awesome as always. Hey what is the best way to route the FX to a channel in the p16 in ear. Say I want to give the vocalist a way to dial in the reverb or delay that I'm using in front of house but have it on a channel so they can adjust to taste in their in ear mix

Hello I would like to see something like this for panning into in-ear stereo monitor. I have my wireless shure monitor in ear but the main mix of the console doesn't have the panning for all channels, i want to be able to pan inputs for each specific bus. can be that done?

In the config section of the Home section I can select Pre Fader or what ever I wan't. In the out 1-16 of the routing seciton I have a Tap section where I can select prefdr and prefdr +M. Are these two sections controlling the same thing. I'm assuming the Prefdr is before the mute and the Prefdr +M is after the mute.

I would love to see this explanation with the steps performed in X32 edit instead of on the console.... If we restricted the discussion to in ear monitors and leave wedges out, would it matter if you had the monitor mix include eq AND dynamics while keeping the whole thing pre fader? Just to summarize, to accomplish this you need to make changes to each audio source that's going to a monitor as well as to the monitor bus itself.......?

Hi Drew, we just got the new x32 beheringer digital board. We use to have the mackie 32 channel analog board. We had our. Recorded hooked up to it. So when I record service, I would use 5 and 6 aux sends. to adjust the Levels on the recorder. So can you tell me? How do I do the same thing? On the digital board.

I find the sends confusing on the desk. You have sends on fader, "Config sends", Sends tab ?! It's not clear to me. Don't understand the Config Tab with tap point?

Hi drew, I want to know were using "In ear monitors," Is it possible to take away the eq you set for a vocal mic in the In ear monitor? Like they don't want the eq you set for their microphone in their monitor.
@MinecraftReviews19 жыл бұрын
InstallationMan1171 Watch at 3:04, he's choosing where the tap will come from. You can choose "pre EQ" which will remove all equalization from the monitors.

Hi Drew, I have p16 and I used channel from 1-16 for mics, piano, bass and guitar and I got the drum from 17-23; the drummer want to hear him self, I put it on a mixbus and still no sound what can it be or what can I do to make it work?

I can't find a video or a post that answers my question. What exactly do I need to do to make it so the musicians can't hear the gate or compression in their ears? The drummer in one of the bands I do will not dampen his kick drum properly. And his floor tom resonates too long. There's no getting him to fix it. And yes, I'm a drummer and I know exactly what to do but it is not my drum kit. So I have to gate those drums but he doesn't want to hear the gate. I'm still kind of new to the X32. What EXACTLY (as in step by step) do I need to do, so the musicians don't hear the gate in their ears? Thank you!
@shervinsardari6 жыл бұрын
I think there are two ways: you could either set the send-modes of the drum mics to "Input". That way you would send the drummer his signal without gate, but also without EQ or compression. If you want to send him his signal WITH EQ, but WITHOUT gate, there's a second option: you could select an unused channel (assuming that you don't need all 32 faders) and select the channel of the drum mic as an input-source in the config-tab. You basically get a "clone" of that signal on a separate fader, which behaves independently. On the "original" fader you put all your gate, compression & EQ that you need and send it to the main LR mix (but not to the drummer's in ear). On the "clone" fader you put your EQ, but no gate and send this directly to your drummer's in ear (but NOT to the main LR mix). This method could be inconvenient if you have to do it to 10 individual drum mics - but if you only need it for your kick & floor tom, it could be an option.

I'm only about a dozen years late, but on something like a vocal, you would (almost) never want the Compressor before the EQ anyway, right? EQ before Compression, yes?

Hi Drew, I'm using the X32 in a recording studio setup my mix is going to 6 mix buses can those mix buses be sent to the main output fader in stead of monitors?
@Acoustika739 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, isn't channel sends to monitors(Bus) supposed to be post-fader? Isn't the monitor mix (Volume) affected by the FOH mix if it's fre-fader?
@Acoustika739 жыл бұрын
+Michael Bragt Well, OR is the whole SEND menu for the signal tapping for when we use "sends on fader"?
@Acoustika739 жыл бұрын
+Michael Bragt Ahh Well.... OFC Guess I got it wired wrong in my head at comment time.... Ofc we are tapping the signal Pre.fader (Before the channel fader) to get a situation where the channel fader would not affect the monitor mix.... Just me who got it wrong in my head *GGG*

HI Drew, Your great videos have been a great help and real blessing... THANK YOU! Do you have a video which might help in our next X32 challenge... incorporating a Cymatic LR-16 recorder we want to use to capture 16 live channels simultaneously? We use one S16 to send the 16 inputs we currently use back to the X32 and for the two S16 outputs which feed our powered PA speakers. Our need is to get a pre-fader signals for each channel to feed the 16 Cymatic LR-16 TRS inputs... without otherwise interfering with the live mix. The Cymatic LR-16 will sit next to the X32 and although the X32 lacks individual physical Insert jacks for each channel we're hoping to utilize the 16 outputs on the back of the X32 for such. Are we correct in assuming that each of the 16 channels we are using can continue being routed to the two S16 main mix outputs... and also be routed as pre-fader outputs to each of the 16 outputs on the back of the X32? Many Thanks!

ok Drew, I am wondering, what software is that you are using in this video? Looking for a new way to monitor what's going on with the X32 when not sitting directly infront of it or having my ipad in my hand. I like the look. Thanks buddy!

Hi Drew I think your videos are very informative but the camera work is very unprofessional. I think having a fixed tripod would do you a world of improvement. There is no need to have the camera continuously dancing around as it becomes very annoying since all you are doing is creating a tutorial of sorts. I hope you take this as constructive rather than criticism. Thanks & keep up the good work because the content is very informative. Tele'
