If you like old steam locomotives then Beijing Railway museum is certainly the place to visit. As the Beijing National Film Museum is located near by, it is worthwhile visiting both museums in one day. By David Goorney

went there in 2010, lots of old steamers from Japan, US, UK, France, and of course home made ones as well. The diesel part is also cool with a full collection of main line locos since the 70s - where I first learned that early Chinese diesels are mostly based on imported German models. The place i huge and very fun. Btw, the "no climbing" or "no photo" signs all around are absolutely pointless most of the time, and no one is following them anyways : D

Thankyou for the comment. There are certain similarities with the Chinese and Russian locos so you might be right. It would be nice if they could get a couple of locos up and running. There is a circular track around the museum that would be ideal for showing these fine trains in all their glory.

back then most of the locos and rolling stocks are accessible, nowadays they are not, also, something new appeared in the museum and the whole arrangement is changed.
