@@nicoleraheem1195 so I watched the series when it first came out, as they were releasing new episodes. But I was in high school, & I didn’t understand context or perspective of this grown women’s choices and decisions. But then I rewatched it again, when I was in my mid twenties, and I started to comprehend the dialect, understand her wants, needs and expectations. But I didn’t have the experience, the income or the lifestyle. But now that I’m almost 30 there are things I can put into perspective and articulate a little better, & she’s more relatable. And I understand her choices. But I also don’t agree with everything she chose either. Does that make sense.?.

To be fair, both characters were highly flawed and needed a lot of psychological work on themselves, but at least one of them was gainfully employed and financially set. So, there's that. But both needed a reality check. However, as a niece, I would never talk back to my aunt like that especially an aunt who was providing for me and my baby. The disrespect would be slapped out of my mouth.

The difference is that MaryJane's flaws only affected her. Niecy's flaws spilled over on everyone, people have to clean up Niecy's mess. No one had to clean up MaryJane's mess, she did it herself

No you don't get to critique your auntie because auntie is a functional alcoholic that you depend to supplement your life. She doesn't depend on you. Even when you no longer contribute to taking money out of her hard work and wallet, you still got some ways to go before you can fix your mouth to judge her.

I would have given her three months to stay then, I would have given her a list of shelters or housing agencies. However, the kids will stay with me until she is able to access permanent housing and prove a record of sustainable employment. If she is unsuccessful, then I would have informed child services or arrange for another Black Community minded orientated people other than [C.A.S.] to gather the children.

Never watched this, but just based on this clip, the niece had no place to judge. No matter how much of an alcoholic her aunt is, fact is, shes a functional one with a job, a home, and the responsibility of taking care of a seemingly ungrateful niece and her kid. Until the niece gets her life together, she has no place to judge someone whos definitely doing better than her on the whose life will fall apart first scale.

@@ebakindeji5941 okay, the more people getting the resources they need to show up for their service, amen and hallelujah! Daddy get your money too! If Daddy is an actual full time homemaker and and caregiver the way mom is then he should get paid. If her contribution in the home enables him to be free of the brunt of the immense daily labour of caring for home and children, then let him get paid for where his energy lies. I hope you understand this isn't a he vs her thing, but about the real acknowledgement of the invisible labour of homelife management that is taken for granted but is as tedious and energy taking as going out to the world and getting a job. Full time home making and children rearing is WORK. If both parents are in the world and have to delegate cooking to chefs, cleaning to housekeepers, and child care to nannies and babysitters, those services are paid for. One of our collective tragedies is how women's work at home is unappreciated and unacknowledged. Kapish!?
