As an oboist, I can confirm the pain of not being able to match with the instrument. If you march with a double reed instrument it could potentially stab you on the roof of your mouth. Over the course of 3 months, I learned tenor saxophone and marched with that instead and am now pursuing both oboe and saxophone. I am playing saxophone in jazz band and marching band exclusively and oboe in concert band exclusively. I am now first chair saxophone and lead soloist for my band. It shows how dedication can really pay off.

I had to pick a different instrument and tried percussion, and I ended up liking it more than bassoon so I focused entirely on learning drums so that I could play tenors after one year of experience. Then of course I didn’t make it and I ended up quitting both 🤷‍♂️
