For those in the back *Paganism* is an ‘umbrella’ term used to refer to non Abrahamic religions like Judism, Christianity, and Islam. They are usually earth based and polythiestic (meaning they worship 1 or more gods outside of the Abrahamic religions). Wicca falls under this umbrella but just like an apple is a fruit but not every fruit is an apple, Wiccans are pagans but not all pagans are Wiccan. *Wicca* is a modern earth based pagan religion established by Gerald Gardner in the 1950’s with a strong emphasis on the metaphysical that incorporates european witchcraft and occultism. Gerald Gardner is often referred to as the Father of Wicca. As time went on many traditions branched out to create their own variations. Some of these include Alexandrian, Blue Star, Correllian, Dianic, Seax, and Faery. Gardner founded the Gardnerian Tradition, which all Wiccan traditions can be traced back to. *Witchcraft* is not a religion, it’s a craft. It revolves around the occult and the practice of magick to influence or change events and circumstances for a desired outcome. A witch can be atheist or religious, the important trait is that they study and practice the art of magick and the occult. There are many different types of witchcraft traditions such as green witches, hedge witches, kitchen witches, Stregaria, and Appalachian Granny Witches to name a few. How one becomes a witch is somewhat controversial. Many believe that to become a witch you must be initiated into a coven. There’s an old saying, “Only a witch can make a witch” however, there are solitary witches who use books, the internet, and other resources to study witchcraft. So there’s a lot of controversy and strong opinions when it comes to who is a witch and what makes a Witch. I identify as a Witch BB 😊

Thank you so much for this Red! A very concise and accurate breakdown of the difference between paganism, wicca and witchcraft. I did a video on this topic but you definitely summed it all up in a very understandable fashion. I'm sure your comment will help people, so I'm going to pin it! Blessed be!

Paganism is nature worship. Witchcraft is the practice of manipulation using meta-physical energy. Wicca is 'the way of pagan witchcraft', as a religion (which is technically represented by the pentacle) though, witchcraft and religion are opposite concepts. "Religion" is, technically, just arbitrary order, not dependent power, so is not pro-life, as if it's artificial.

I completely understand and so she and if you're comfortable with being a wiccan how I am with being a devout Fullbringer (a Voodooist who's not Haitian or African at all) then enjoy your path and let no one steer you from it! Hi Jinx! Thanks for your question and comment. I'm going to first respond to the original question you posted before you edited it, which was "why is this even a video idea?" I chose to make a video about this topic because it is a question that I get quite often. I thought addressing it in a video would help to answer the question for the widest audience. Second, I am not sure if you watched the video, but I don't think anyone who has asked me this question is asking whether you have to be a certain race to "like" something. I think it's pretty obvious to everyone that you can be any race and "like" something. But, I do not "like" Wicca. I am a witchcraft practitioner and a member of the Wiccan community. And I think what people want to know is, how do I, as a person of African descent, feel in regard to being comfortable and welcomed in a community that is exclusively European in origin. That's a very different question than "can a black person like Wicca." I don't think that's what people are asking me and that's not what I was addressing in this video. I hope that clears things up for you. Thank you very much for tuning in! 🙏🏾

Hi Antonio, thanks for commenting! Yes, there are not a lot of us. And as a solitary Wiccan of 20 years, I know how lonely this journey has been for us. But that is changing and the amount of Wiccans of color grows daily, which is great and makes me very optimistic about the future. As for your questions, I address this in the video so if you haven't gotten a chance yet definitely check it out. And of course I remember Donahue, lol he and Sally Jessy Raphael were the only things on TV when you stayed home sick from school. I actually think I remember this particular episode. There were many similar ones on the other daytime talk shows as well. There have always been misconceptions about Wiccans and witches and following this path is definitely a difficult one. As society grows and changes I think more people are better educated, and that is refreshing. Thanks so much for watching!

As someone who also feels more at home with Wicca, I really appreciate your channel. I started reading about it at 20 and it was because I didn’t feel like my Christian upbringing was telling everything. I was not allowed to watch any witch craft shows and that just stoked my curiosity. Coupled with the imagery of powerful women and the celebration of nature and the Divine feminine I was sold. It took me a long time to finally shed my former upbringing but I love where I am now. Black people are not a monolith go where spirit leads you, not where people think you should. Blessed Be.

I have been trying to come into my own with this,...I was a Christian ever since coming out of my mother's womb. I have been in church the majority of my life, led worship, etc, a similar story to you. Since I was 5, I was called to witchcraft, as I was led to the occult section in the library at that age, and found a book on witchcraft--and when I was found with it, I was told it was Satanic. I was also audibly called by Spirit in my late teens, which scared the crap of out me, lol--as I was told I was a "High Priestess." That was around the time, I discovered my "seer/prophetic" gifting. I have gone back and forth with flirting with the idea of Wicca my whole life, and am now deciding on not suppressing the desire to do so anymore, and just do! (Scorpio & Pluto in the 5th House here, lol). But for me, it was American Horror Story: Coven (Marie Laveau) and Salem (Tituba), that really made my curiosity itch even more....I don't want to deal with deities, as to me, they are only a personification of the Planets, the luminaries and the Stars that encompass the Universe. To me, I would rather deal specifically with the polarities of those energies directly, and finding a balance, as well using their elements, with herbs in order to heal not harm--than going through something else...to me that is similar to Christianity. I would rather go directly to the Universe and Spirit. I am also drawn more so to Vedic/Indian astrology and am currently trying to learn Tamil, as I see similarities in some of my studies. This video is so inspiring and encouraging, and it's nice to see other black women, specifically in the practice!! I can't wait to freely be who I've always wanted to be, and not care about how others perceive me! I literally told my mom a week ago, "This is who I am, and I don't care if you don't like it!" I can't wait to embark on this Eclectic Wiccan journey this year and I look forward to watching more of your videos!✨🖤

Amazing, I'm 15 and I've been exploring diffrent types of spirtuality and religions since december of last year and I can definitively relate to not connecting with African gods and goddesses and I felt bad because of it but i knew it was not for me. My family is christan and I have not told them about me not believing in what they do because I've brought it up before and they did not take it well and in a black household they're not very openminded. Please continue to make more videos, they're really helping me find my way, thanks babe 💖🖤💛

Oh wow Grace, first thanks so much for watching! I totally know where you're coming from. I am 33 and I still don't talk to my family about my spiritual path lol. Not that I keep it from them. But it can be very difficult to have open conversations with christians about alternate spiritual paths, even when they are family. It's unfortunate. All you can do is be a great person and hope that they see through your actions that you aren't engaging in anything that they should have a problem with. But I'm happy that my video helped! Especially when it comes to not working with the African deities. I think there's a lot of pressure to work with your ancestry or your ethnic lineage and that seems kind of small-minded to me. All is energy and we are all connected and an African deity is as appropriate a choice for me as a deity from any other culture if I come at it with respect and education. IMHO anyway. I have a lot of thoughts on this because I am adopted and don't know my biological family, so I will definitely do more vides on these topics. Thanks again for watching!

Yea i understand mate. I dont really feel any connections to african deities (and specifically the yoruba kind sense they are common ones in the americas) though at the same time they have grown on me. I believe your own personal views on thing plays a part as well. Like for me i believe (for example) we have one ocean right, but everyone has a different name for it. The same goes for deites. We all have the same ocean deity but give it different names and view it as masculine or feminine. I connect more to nature or the source than anything else. So, find what connects to u. For me i want to establish and ancestral ancestor cause that feels right to me. Also, im in the broom closet too

@@BronxWitch In short my ethic far as I know gene background is mom's side Scot/ Turkish, with English " Anglo "/ German " Prussian. Dad's side Dutch/ Irish, Sicilian. Back in 1987 being nine years old I was sent to live with my mom in Florida and she drag us children in a Southern Baptist cult that tried to make me believe my grandparents were going to hell cause they were Catholic. Due to my .. tan .. the church though I was an adopted .. Cuban .. child. So I learn what it is like to be treated as I was not " white " enough. My mom was no help so I made an effort to be as brown tan as I could. The nice part was that a few of my Black co-students started to learn Italian and Catholic rituals to join me in bucking the teachers. Thank G*D that only lasted a couple of years. By the age of 13 I started to academic learn about magic/ religious cultures with my first two books being Tales of Power/ Mexican shamanism and Catholic mysticism " Realms of the Living Dead " which is not sanction by the Catholic Church cause it promotes reincarnation and the book deals with the astral plane. My aunt gave us kids a Catholic sanction book on Communing with Angels & Saints which in my view a waste of time. So when Wicca and Riding on a Silver Broomstick came out in my area, I was not impress. And my local public library had nearly nothing regarding African gods other than a few names and what element they govern. When I was 16 and being a country boy I drew a lop sided circle on the peak of my grandparents two story country house. And just hang out with the raven, crows, and turkey buzzards talking to them. I was talking out loud to myself and the birds working through " aspect relations of the gods," as listed by the Romans. They identify the Greek Hermes to Roman Mercury to the traits of the German Wotan which is also refer to as Odin. So I was trying to figure out which African gods equal to Mercury or Odin. Then I heard a voice of well, a Black man. The Black Man, " Why are you surprise ?" Me, " I didn't hear you come up on the roof." T.B.M. , " Point being ? Why stop talking, it is entertaining to listen to you speak to yourself." Me, " It is minus ten below zero, and you are nude other than your skirt you are wearing. I am seen zhit at the moment, I've been out in the cold too long." T.B.M. , " But you are trying to learn .. knowledge .. " Me, " Why did you show up now ?" T.B.M. , " You offer home made wine & spirit and burnt food, so I joined your learning." Then I notice half the birds on the roof sitting in the snow with me were not .. birds. They were the people that played golf near my home, I talked with them for five years in grade school from four to nine years old, they were the same people in Florida with different faces for two years, and from 12 to 16 they were coming in an out of my life. I inherit a bit of my .. witch .. blood from my grandma " Scot/ Turkish." She knew the whole time. They were her old friends from childhood. Turns out her auntie as a child was into her own form of voodoo. The dead do look after the living. As a small town country boy I worked with .. rural .. farm/ garden and wild animal energy. Along with martial arts, needless to say due to dealing with .. totems .. too often, they left me burnt out for a good 20 years of my life. As a teenage I had some amazing abilities but they/spirits: gods hinder the practices of " Wicca " magic as most people practice. Now I spent close to four years arguing with my Sicilian fore fathers when I was learning sword training. They still see the multiverse through the Christian Catholic view of pre 1700's aristocrat city state republic fighting against everyone else. Think of all those times you are having a problem in life, and when you was out running errands who did you .. bump .. into that help you solve your problem ? God bless.

One of the reasons Wicca "appears to have" a European background is because Gerald Gardner was British. But he traveled the WORLD for a long time before he brought Wicca to the UK. His BOS is based on World Cultures - with a great deal of Eastern mysticism. Then he met a British Coven, and suddenly all his worldly notes came to together, and he created Wicca as we know it. Of course, Wicca is a religion that is and will always be growing and developing as time moves on. I'm so happy for you that you found a pantheon that you feel you can work with.🤗 One of the beauties of this path is that you do you, and no one will question it, because we all have to find that which speaks to our heart.💜 Coven life is beautiful too. It's a gift to have a group you can work and socialize with that understands you. And you will learn things in a Coven you will not learn elsewhere. We Witches still have our secrets. 😉 Peace & Blessings!

The way I have balanced out my path is while my religion is Wicca, my spiritual practice is Conjure (also called hoodoo). I highly recommend that you look into this if you haven't, especially since your family is black and from South Carolina ( a very major place in Southern conjure), because hoodoo is a magical path born out of African American chattel enslavement. I have felt magic in my family since young, and have always read about it, even tried practicing in middle school, but there was a block, fear, life. Now this is about discovering who I am, connecting to my ancestors, knowing where I came from, and a deep desire to use magic to heal (me, my family, my community). I want to connect to nature and call all the beautiful magic of my family home to be cultivated, brightened, loved.

Thanks for sharing. I’ve identified as an eclectic/Celtic/solitary witch. I was told by a male witch that I can create my own religion. I was also tod by a psychic that my energy resonates with the Yoruba goddess Oya. I had no idea who she was until I did research and was like wow that’s me!! I also love dragons so I just incorporated all of my beliefs into one. I am still learning and researching and researching and learning. I enjoy this journey so much more as years pass by. Blessed be Sister

It’s nice to see that people say Wicca is a religion for everyone. And in the reality it is, but I believe to me Gerald Gardner comes off as someone who took from indigenous tribes and made something his own. This story is all too similar (the white man taking from colored peoples etc.) Which makes him questionable to me because some people don’t even know his story as to where this began for him. Secondly, though I have many Wicca-based friends and they are continuously welcoming, I personally still feel Wicca is a tad white-washed as you spoke to saying, you didn’t relate to Mother, Maiden & Crone. Being that it was “ a white lady “. And you walk into any metaphysical shop and the Mother Maiden Crone statues are of white women. But in reality this is the entity of divine feminine and the three stages of female journey within divine self. In my personal opinion there should also be black statues of Mother, Maiden & Crone. I don’t think Wicca communities are trying to separate anyone, but I do believe that the continuous statues, pictures and white images of the God & Goddess so to say is a miss. This is no different then black families who believe in a Black Santa Claus in versus to a white Santa. At the end of the day, I believe personally, there should be more fluidity. But that’s just my opinion
@BronxWitch
@BronxWitch 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment Kionna! You make a lot of really excellent points! I agree that Gerald Gardner the man has alot of problematic areas of his practice and history. He definitely did not do enough to properly credit and explain the sources of many of the practices and philosophies that he adopted. And I believe that has caused alot of unintended cultural appropriation by Wiccans who don't realize that. And I think that's why most Wiccans (aside from Gardnerian and more traditional Wiccans of course) are often adamant that while he laid the framework for modern day Wicca, he doesn't hold a place of reverence beyond that. And I totally agree, Wicca is very white. There's no way around that. It was def established BY Europeans IN Europe with European ancestry and traditions in mind. The good news, in my opinion, is that it wasn't intended to be FOR europeans. It was intended to be an inclusive path that recognized all spiritual paths as valid and welcome. And if that is the case I also agree that the Wiccan community needs to make a better effort to diversify and reflect that inclusivity. I think one great example is Brina: A Pagan Picture Book by Andrea Stein and Cayce Matteoli which is book for small children about a little girl who has to decide what kind of witch to be: Wiccan, kitchen witch, etc. Brina is brown skinned with purple afro puffs while the authors are white. And the book is published by Moon Dust Press which is a new publisher aiming to increase representation in children's Pagan books. So, it's happening, but we definitely need to see more of this kind of representation and diversity. Thanks again for your comment and for watching!

Wicca was first given a name in Gerald Gardner’s 1954 book Witchcraft Today, in which he announced it as “wica,” the extra “c” being added in the 1960s. According to Gardner, the word was derived from Scots-English and meant “wise people.” Gardner, considered the founder of Wicca, was born in 1884, north of Liverpool in England. A world traveler with an interest in the occult, Gardner first heard the word “Wica” used in the 1930s when he became involved with a coven in Highcliffe, England. He was initiated into the group in 1939. If whom it is for, is who it's from; then no. Regardless the heinous picture that Hollywood painted on Voodoo; just like the Native Americans, Incans, Mayans, Egyptians, Sumerians and Olmecs, the Mantic arts and Persian mythology, "black" people, not just those of African descent, have their own culture from which religious and spiritual practices are derived, especially, pre-conversion to Christianity. Most of today's generation of blacks are largely disconnected from their indigenous roots. I have even met people who are of African descent, but reject any connection to that heritage. Psychological suggestion, implicit bias and Asch conformity are tough to deal with I guess -- especially if we are unaware of our passive confirmation over 400 years of American history. Nature vs. Nurture? You might as well say perception is reality, though we know that is not true. It's all nurture, because nature has form, form is a result of order and order is mindful; otherwise, we'd have nothing but chaos and mindlessness. Wicca is for anybody who appeals to a nature-based religion.

Thank you soooooo much for this video! I’ve been struggling with identifying what deities to work with or even what path to go down because I’m a witch but I started with Wicca studies... (really hard to find books for strictly witchcraft) But I keep feeling kind of outcasted on this journey because I don’t resonate with the Orishas and African spirituality but then Wiccan studies are very Eurocentric so I’m kind of in this place of limbo trying to figure out my path... completely forgetting I can create my own! So thank you so much for this video!! The same reaction you had to the Wiccan info when you first found out about was literally the same reaction I had when you said you worked with Hindu. I was like YES!YES! Lolol

I started off as Wiccan but as you did, found a disparity between what I saw and what I connected to. Funny enough, the deities I feel a bond with are Isis, Hathor, Aphrodite and Kali. It crosses several pantheons lol! This content was very relatable so please continue with more info on your journey.

This video (and reading so many people's comments who feel the same) has really helped. I've always been drawn to witchcraft ever since watching Charmed as a kid too (I got excited when you mentioned Charmed, LOVE Piper! 😁). As a Haitian American (who left Christianity a few years ago), I was learning more about Haitian Vodou and while it is interesting to study/learn about, I just couldn't connect with any of the deities. I consider myself an agnostic atheist, so I didn't think I'd connect with any deities from any culture, however, lately I've been feeling drawn to learn more about the goddess Freya (Freyja). And from what I've learned about her so far, she's a total badass so I think it's understandable why I'm drawn to her. But I also learned that some say Freya is connected to Friday the 13th and since I was born on a Friday the 13th (October), that might also be why I'm drawn to her. 🤷🏽‍♀

Thank you so much for this video! I have a very similar story to you. I've also grown up in a very religious Caribbean-American family in the South. I was never a fan of Christianity but I do enjoy the structure associated with religion. My first introduction to witchcraft was Wicca at 12 years old and I was drawn to it deeply but have not actually started exploring the New Age and my spirituality till my early 30s. I have not resonated with ATR traditions such as Vodou (my ancestral one), Santeria, Ifa, or even Hoodoo. Something about Wicca just clicks for me but I always felt hesitant about involving myself as it is very white and European. Your video confirms that there is a space for everyone so thank you for this.

Oh wow, thank you so much for sharing this!! yes our stories are very similar and Im so happy to hear that you're feeling more confident in exploring Wicca or other magickal paths. And Im even more happy that my story can be a part of that. I totally understand that hesitance. I do completely understand that Wicca is of European origin and a path that is still predominantly white and I know that can take some getting used to as a black person. But I can say from my personal experience, Ive never felt anything but love and acceptance from white Wiccans. And I give you props and kudos for being brave enough to go where you feel called rather than where you are told you belong. Blessed be!

Thanks for the lovely comment and for watching! My husband (married 9 years) is very lucky indeed lol. I do want to take a quick moment and say that as much as I vibe with the sentiment behind your statement on religions being open to everyone, I want to offer one small clarification. Which is that no, it is actually not ok to practice any religion no matter what race you are. Some religions are closed practices and that is absolutely to be respected. Wicca is not a closed practice and is therefore open to all, but it is uncommon for black folx to choose Wicca as their religion so I thought it would be interesting to some to hear how I was led to that path. It is not my place to speak on Haitian Voodoo or your decision to practice it, and I'm sure that you went through the proper channels/initiations to be invited into that community before claiming it, but I just want to be clear that I do not agree with the idea that all religions are open to everyone. There are some that are expressly not open to everyone and I believe that is to be respected. Just wanted to clear up my views on that in case I didn't mention that in the video. Thank you again! Blessed be!

Reading about all the escapades of the Gods and Goddesses, it just seemed like a season of love and hip-hop 😅 had to get that off my chest 🤣 because deeper into my research I discovered that the Greeks tied themselves into Egyptian culture and adopted their gods and goddesses Early Egypt was Nubian the culture religion came from Nubia . I’ve worked with Aset , Oya , Hecate ma’At , I’ve even worked with the arch Angles Michael and Raphael it’s about a good consistent flow of energy for me , and finding a balance these day I just draw power from my DNA instant results 🤗👌🏾

Thanks for sharing this Louise! Lmao Love & Hip Hop! I know right, so scandalous. And yea, the Greco- Roman gods definitely overlapped with Egyptian gods as their cultures collided. Their practices and magick blended as well. I think all of these energies are available to all of us and I'm glad your finding a way to blend all of the energies that call out to you. Thanks for watching and blessed be!

Instead of doing just amv's I am going to do what you do on yours - talk about your religion and interview others via like literally videos of either being contacted directly (face to face) and indirectly (just videos of me talking about what me want to being a white voodooist and aspects of other religions) alongside talking about spells rituals prayers and what I know about my religion and what I don't know not as a gag or parody but that of an homage to YOU! I mean truthfully BronxwitchCoven nobody knows everything about their religion think about though I don't believe everything is meant to be known to mankind! Thank you for Ally for YOU are now being MY greatest KZbin idol is a truthfully a blessing and an Honor! Good luck and may your gods give you a wonderful Ally

Wow Zealous 1, I really appreciate that! Thank you 🙏🏾.. I try to keep it peace and love as best I can over here. And that's totally fine! All are welcome here! I love catholicism. Lol. Seriously. I went to a catholic school for a couple years in middle school and it's so wonderfully witchy. The singing in latin, the candles and incense. It's all Jesus, but with a lot of drama!😋💜 Thanks again for watching! Blessed be!

Thank you! You are so right! There are so many spiritual paths out there and often times we are raised to think that there is one "right" path. If you can get out of that mindset and focus on learning as much as you can about what's out there, you are bound to find something that speaks to your soul. Thank you for watching and commenting!

Thank you so much for this comment. What a powerful statement. And I know that other people feel differently, but i agree with your statement. I truly believe that we all come from one source. We all have the same ancestry and differences in our practices are far less important than the common energy that unites us. Thanks for your comment and for watching! Blessed be!

@BronxWitch When I look out at nature I think about the first cells that were born in the ocean and how all life comes from these distant ancestors. Evolving into a being that has differentiated and expanded over many millions of years, all of us part of one great organism. If we could only remember that...

Thank you for watching love! I know what you mean. There is much less widely available info when it comes to the ATRs or indigenous practices. But I encourage you to keep searching because it sounds like that's where you're being pulled. That information is harder to come by, for good reasons, so it's on us to look a little harder. I've found IG alot more helpful in terms of finding black and ATR practitioners. Use hashtags and the like to help you find teachers. Also I would say, if you haven't already developed a relationship with your ancestors then that should be your first step. They will help you answer all those questions about your path, where you "fit" etc. Blessed be!

I really enjoyed this video so much, thank you so much for creating this 🙏 Although I am a white woman, I grew up with a fairly diverse group of people, so, when I got older and started looking into other religions it bothered me a lot that all the authors I found were white males with a few females. For me I always saw Wicca as dealing with gods and since I never believed in a god or a goddess or both, it wasn't for me. But it's interesting to note that I went the more Druidic route and also turned to a religion that originates from India, Buddhism. These two also go extremely well together so I think that is really fascinating that Wicca and Hinduism go so well together for you. I only know bits of Hinduism as Buddhism has roots in it and also because I have been learning about where yoga came from. I don't know all their gods and goddesses though. If you are looking for Pagan books by BIPOC there are some pretty interesting finds that I found in an article titled BIPOC Pagan Reading List by Yvonne Aburrow on dowsingfordivinity.com 😊 Thank you for sharing your journey!
@BronxWitch
@BronxWitch 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the book list! I will definitely be getting into some of these titles! And thank you for watching my video and sharing about your path. That's really interesting to hear about the similarities in Druidic practice and Buddhist philosophy. It doesnt surprise me that our ancestors had similar views on the world even though they didnt live geographically near each other. I think as a people, no matter what race or location, we just understand nature and our role in it alot better. And I can totally see that about your perception of Wicca. There is a lot of focus on deities as well as alot of formal ritual which feels very deity based even if it isnt. There are alot of Wiccans who dont work with deities at all, but you're right that I would say most do. Thanks again for the book list and for watching! Blessed be!

I just started my path as a Celtic Polytheist, there's some information surrounding it but it's kind of lacking because of Christianity (just like a lot of pagan paths). So I'm using Wicca as a basis for some of my practice. I am a white male, so I know my experience is going to be a bit different from yours, but I can already tell I'm going to love your channel and that it's going to help me. Thank you, so much.

Oh wow, thank you so much for sharing that and for being here! I love the diversity in this community so welcome! And facts. It is very said how much of pagan practices and history, especially in Europe, was completely wiped away due to the takeover of christianity. I have been Wiccan for 22 years, since I was 15, and I don't think I've ever met another BIPOC Wiccan. I've only recently begun to be asked the black and wiccan questions, and I find it obscenely offensive and incredibly ignorant. First of all, there's the assumption that all people who are "black" or classified as black are of African descent. That's completely untrue. More of my ancestors and my more recent ancestors, are white and indigenous. Even if I did have African ancestry, why tf would you assume I'd automatically be interested in that or have some connection to it?? Black people haven't had an African ancestor for hundreds of years (I still haven't found one)...I don't understand at all the assumption that black people would gravitate to that more than anything else. People are so ignorant it makes my head hurt. That said, it's great to see another brown wiccan after all these years. Please don't stop sharing. 🐈‍⬛🌙🖤

Thank you for sharing that Indigo Moon! It is so great to be connected to you. It's definitely not the norm to see BIPOC Wiccans so I'm happy that my video, if nothing else, can tell people "hey we're out here!" lol. That was actually one of my motivations to creating the Witches of Color Support Group - I wanted to meet more BIPOC witches and Wiccans specifically. And I totally agree with the thoughts you express. Black people are not one dimensional. Especially black Americans. I honor all of my ancestry, including my European ancestry, and I feel strongly that the spirits of all of my ancestors - black, white and other- are delighted that I found the path for me. I'm glad you resonated with this video and that you left a comment. Thanks for watching! blessed be!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I really enjoyed your presentation and sharing your spiritual journey. For my understanding, some of the core ideas of Wicca was the Great Mother and the Horned God. They don't really have names per se, but are reflected in a myriad of goddesses and gods throughout human history. I have always felt that they exist in any form, even ones that can be unique and specific to individuals that are not historical. The Great Mother can definitely be presented as a woman of color, as the Horned God can also be represented by a man of color. If you can't find deity of an existing culture, or one of the past, you can definitely reach out to just that essential spirit of them both, and they can give you a face(s) and image(s) to work with.
@BronxWitch
@BronxWitch 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I'm glad you liked my video and hearing my story. Yes, that's my understanding as well. The Great Mother and the Horned God, or sometimes referred to the lord and lady, are representations of the dual forces of divinity. The masculine and the feminine. And this balance of energy has been given many different names and personifications by different cultures thru time. The divine is genderless, colorless, formless. But it makes sense for us humans to want to try to translate the divine into something that we understand. And being that human life on this planet began with people of color, it makes sense to envision the progenitors of all universal life as beings of color as well. But I too like the idea of connecting with the essential spirit of divinity and letting it guide you on an image to work with. Thanks for your comment! Blessed be!
