I came here from FB looking for a Bronx community of witches. It's really hard to find people near home. I liked and agreed with your points in this video. I too like people to touch the deck if I'm reading for them! What made me sad was the fact that you lock your community behind a membership. Why not monetize your videos rather than your community? It really hurt my heart that you are asking people to pay to be a part of your coven and kicking them out if they don't keep up their membership. This is not the way sister. Keep sharing your info though and helping others to understand and learn. ❤ blessed be

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feedback but I strongly disagree. For those of you who have not created a community like this it may be hard to understand, so let me explain. Creating this community costs me MONEY. Cash dollars. From $200 a year for the zoom subscription to host our WoC support group and Book Club meetings. To the $300 final cut pro I use to edit videos for you. To the hundreds spent on equipment. To the $140 per year for design services to create backgrounds and media. To the THOUSANDS of hours spent editing videos, creating posts, researching books, and administrating the coven COMPLETELY SOLO. And while all of my videos are monetized, KZbin's algorithm and the fact that they take 30% of every penny of ad revenue, means that I make approximately $30 per month TOTAL from video views. It hurts MY HEART deeply that you are so ok with the idea of taking that much from me and giving nothing back. That makes you a vampire and I will not be your victim. To be clear: the knowledge and info that I share is free, but my time, energy and resources are not. And yours shouldn't be either. Beyond that PapisChula, I have hundreds of FREE videos on this page and our Witches of Color Support Group is free to join for any BIPOC witch who needs community. If you want to join and can not afford a youtube membership, you simply have to email [e-mail] to get the zoom info and all of that is clearly explained on the coven membership page of my website. No one is turned away from the support group for lack of funds. And through my shop, BronxWitch HQ located at 910 Grand Concourse, we offer everything from donation-based classes, to scholarships, to free services, to low-cost or free events for the community. So all that being said, respectfully, you can kick a bag of rocks with this ignorant comment. Your poverty is your own problem. But thank you for the views. Blessed be!

I'm not poor and yes I could afford a membership and maybe if you had explained your reasoning without coming at my head I might have changed my opinion. How am I a vampire because I want a community. You could always ask for donations as well. As a small business owner I completely understand that there are costs associated with what you do but this is also something you chose to do. I originally thought "wow I like the things this girl is saying" and I said so to you in my previous comment. But clearly we are not as like minded as I thought. If I'm a vampire you are a wolf in sheep's clothing and I will gladly kick rocks as that is not the kind of energy I want to associate myself with. You're clearly not running a coven. You are running a business under the guise of being a coven. Even churches don't lock their God behind a paywall. All I wanted was to find people close by to commute with, do rituals with, share experience and knowledge. And instead I got rude and dismissive comments about how you think I'm dumb, broke and a user. When I do find my people I will gladly share any resources that mother earth has blessed me with including small green paper. But I would hope we work together as a group/family than a business looking at me as a dollar sign.

I grew up going to mt zion ame in harlem every single sunday of my life, and I never step foot in there without paying tithes. At least 10% of your income, in fact. That's because no matter how spiritually aligned a space may be, there are practical considerations like the bills that have to be paid to create the space. This coven is in no way a business. The starting membership cost is $2.99 and membership fees do not even come close to covering what it costs to hold this space. NO PROFIT is being made off of this space dear. So, I'm sorry if you think my response was rude. But you are completely off base. And I find it super rude that you expect any community to provide you with what you're looking for while you intend to not provide what they need in return. And I find it hard to believe that you will happily share your small green paper with a community that does provide you what you're looking for, as you claim, because The Entire Point of your first comment was that you don't believe you should have to pay for these things. I started reading tarot in 1992 and I recall someone telling me I should have been given my first deck as a gift. But... If I'd have waited I may have never gotten one so I took matters into my own hands and got one.

If I waited to be gifted a deck I'd never have started. I've also met someone who insists that a deck only works if it's gifted to you. This statement is one I disagree with, I'm drawn to the art style, I've been gifted tons of decks, but several I just can't use because I don't connect with the art. Don't give your power to others, if you really feel drawn to a deck get it, dont let superstition hold you back.

Been reading tarot for 20 years and only 2 years ago was I gifted a new deck that had imagery different than the traditional ones. And it has been the most powerful tarot deck in my life so far. I have a very personal connection with the imagery so reading tarot has really gone to a new level for me. Which I am so excited about after all these years. Thank you for making this video. When it comes to starting with just when you learning I agree that you should start with RW and/or Thoth. However after you've been doing it for a while I definitely think whether you are practicing for others or yourself you have to find one you connect with because that's the one that's going to help you read the best especially if you're more intuitive

My mother told me that Tarot cards would invite unwanted spirits or energies into your home or space if you used them. Not sure how true it is but it's why I've not dabbled with them until recently encouraged by friends.

I'm from Uruguay and here it is pretty common to hear from older more traditional witches that your first deck must be a gift, maybe is more of a regional thing idk :S

I agree that not buying your first deck is a recent invention and ... it's not likely invented by commercial sources either. The bit about not touching my deck though is a personal preference. Too much touching does dirty them up and decks can be a financial investment so I prefer a hand-off approach. When someone is reading for me, I also do not want to touch the cards that many others have touched. It's just .... icky. I can feel the energy from over here without the touchy-touchy. @BronxWitch A "myth" that I was told growing up that scared the bejesus out of me (it has been 16 years since I have even been near a tarot) is that when you get a reading you somehow "seal" that destiny or outcome. I was told to stay away from tarot because it will curse me in that sense, not the actual exposure to it but of what it will be in the cards as fate. Can you elaborate on that and help me understand? Hi Ana, thanks so much for the question! I'm so sorry someone did that to you and even more sorry that a silly piece of misinformation kept you fearful of something so beautiful for so long! That is totally a myth my dear. Tarot cards are tools, merely pieces of paper, and the reader is engaging in a practice called divination. Divination by definition is "the act of SEEKING the future." Not creating it or manipulating it. Merely seeking it. And that is not to say that the reader you go to is not capable of causing an outcome. Many readers are also spell casters. But that's not what is happening in a reading. The future does not exist. It has not happened yet. And it can not be "sealed" by divination. Only sought. It sounds like ignorant people spreading fear and I'm sorry you got caught in the snares. May you be bold and brave enough to seek your own answers to life's questions. I was gifted my first deck, but no guidebook so thank god for Pinterest and online sites for definitions. The deck I was gifted is the Feary Wicca Tarot by Kisma K Stephanich. Do you believe this deck is comparable to the rider Waite as far as the definitions and energies?

Hi Amber! yea, I can imagine getting your first deck with no guidebook can be quite a challenge. But also a great way to strengthen your intuitive muscle. I don't know anything about the deck you mentioned, so you would actually be better able to answer your question than I would. Does it have 78 cards, a major/minor arcana with 22 major cards, 4 court cards per suit, do the images compare to the RWS images, are the meanings the same, etc etc.? You may want to grab a traditional RWS deck with a guidebook so you can compare them to see for yourself how they differ/are the same. Hope that helps! Blessed be!

I'm 17 and new to tarot and someone said tarot attracts spirits and it opens portals when you knock on the deck which is what I do before I read for myself. It scared me a little but I dont really believe it because I've always gotten a loving vibe from my deck and it was one time I kept drawing negative cards the whole day even when I asked what describes our relationship like it was negative card after negative and the energy was off. That isnt the personality of my deck so I saged it and put clear quartz on top for a while and it was "normal" again, but what is your opinion on it?

Tarot doesn't open any portals in my opinion lol. No worries there. If knocking on your deck feels right to you, then knock away! I knock because it's kind of like knocking on the door of the spirit world. Sort of me clearing away my own thoughts so I can clearly hear the messages that come thru when I turn over the card. But that's just me. That being said, while I don't think cards open portals or anything. I do think that cards, and any item really, can pick up energy. Thats why I stress the importance of cleansing all items before using them for spiritual reasons. Sounds like your cards picked up some energy either from you or someone else you read for or let handle the cards and you just needed to cleanse them. That happens.
