The birthing classes helped saved my sister's life. My mum brought her home, she was born premmie, and not long after during a feed she flat out stopped breathing. Dad was able to give her CPR, keeping her alive, until the ambulance arrived and they got her to hospital safely (: Dad is so greatful he went to those classes so he was all brushed up on giving CPR to infants. Definately worth it whether you think you'll need it or not!

When my wife and I found out we were pregnant I remember being so excited. I wanted to learn everything there is to know about being a dad. I was dissapointed to find out that there just wasn't much material, literature, or videos about being a new dad. And I asked my wife especially about books, why does every book address the mom and not both the mom and dad, even when it isn't about something specific to the mom? I was just stunned and was wondering if I was doing something wrong. I heard that, while acknowledging all the great fathers in our lives and in the past, most dads were very distant and aloof during the whole ordeal and felt their role was not in the nurture and care for their baby. I want that to change. The very fact that dads can experience post-partum depression proves that dads can be just as emotionally and practically invested in their child's lives as their mother. Thank you for making this video.

I honestly think that it’s just because dad’s usually aren’t into making this sort of content, but I know that many women do and they talk about it and I think that’s why isn’t all that much content from the male perspective, but who knows.

Dads can be overwhelmed, tired or depressed, but they absolutely cannot experience post-partum depression discounts all the hardship that women go through. Im seeing so many heart broken mamas who can’t have their partners in the appointments with them :( I’m hoping this helps ease some anxiety. My husband drives me to all of my appointments and waits in the car. Knowing that he’s near by and knowing he’ll be there as soon as I come out is comforting considering he can’t come in. What I do is record/FaceTime him to share experiences together (even if we’re sharing the experience a few minutes after leaving the appointment) it helps him feel included and it helps me feel connected.

Men become Fathers when the baby is born" (Of course, this doesn't account for all family dynamics, same sex, single parents etc) I think more men need to be reminded that mom has been with baby 24/7 for 9 months. My wife and I went to her first appointment. I did a lot of research. I was told that I am not allowed to see the doctor. That definitely hurt me, so I became upset and didn’t even want to do FaceTime (I was an entitled baby). I was told I would not be able to meet the doc until the delivery. I was now upset that I wouldn’t be able to get a sense if my wife was in good hands. I’m not usually soft, but I went home and teared. Prayed God and realized I had to be strong for wifey. She had an appointment 2 days later and sent me the ultrasound. That changed my perspective big time. The first trimester is tough on dads too. I need to learn how to be more supportive, bcuz she definitely deserves to have a great first pregnancy. COVID19 sucks! But I’M GOING TO BE A DADDY! God willing of course 🙏🏿

Hey, Thanks for this video. I think this video is helpful for women too. I was relatively relaxed, like it sounds like your wife is :), but my husband would get very upset whenever the baby cried. I’d like to say that for some mothers they also don’t have that amazing undying connection with their child either. I know that sounds horrible but I didn’t really feel a connection to my daughter until a little while after she was born. This is actually A Thing for many parents, so much so that there’s a whole area of study devoted to it. I will forever have a new, enormous respect for mothers, a lot of men who don't have children believe that the man has it the hardest as they have to go to work during the day and believe they deserve rest when they get home, due to lockdown I was at home for the first 4 months of my daughters life and I can guarantee right now that parenthood is the hardest job in the world.

I totally understand you on not feeling that obscene amount of euphoria when they give you time with your spouse and your newborn immediately after their birth. It was the craziest, almost saddest moment for me. Always expected that and I was disappointed in myself. But you're so right, he is the light of my life and I love him so much. That little disappointment means nothing now.

I am due to be a father to my daughter February 1st. We are very close. Very excited. And getting things ready. I love my wife, and am ready to grow in life with her. Raise my daughter and future children the best way I can. Always being there by each and everyone of their lives.

This is so so amazing. I am a birth doula in the DMV area and I'm always wanting to help out my Papas, especially my first-time ones and you're right, men are truly lacking resources and it breaks my heart to see how under supported you all are. I'm so excited to share this video with my clients! Keep up the awesome work!

Every single one of these points are dead-on. Go to the screenings, umbilical cord scissors are all dull, bring things to do/watch, the couch beds are definitely jacked up, DO those newborn classes! Especially PRE-PACK your bag! Things can happen any time, and it might not be a slow labor at home. We had to be induced after a scary weekly checkup, there was no option to go home and pack that bag. This is so great dude, I wish someone had shown me this before my daughter was born to help me manage it. But you captured the fear and anxiety word for word. It's really helpful to know I'm not alone in going through it.

Failure is a necessary (and repetitive) step of any journey. The school system has taught us that failing is unacceptable, they could not be more wrong. Fail your way forward. You've got this.

Wow, I never thought about the partner's point of view/mental health. I know it's a big adjustment for everyone but I never thought to stop and ask how he was doing. I'm glad that you were brave enough to share your very private feelings and thoughts.

I actually help deliver my first child. Its part of life. When i seen my daughter crowning I was ready to pull her out. Can't wait to deliver my second one. Its always a cool experience. Dont be nervous guys trust me its a beautiful thing. Video was spot on and good pointers.

This was absolutely AMAZING! Often times because so much attention is focused on mom and baby, the attention on dad is an after thought. Yes, mom and child are critical however dad is critical as well. Thank you for being an avenue to open our eyes a bit more and aid us in understanding the fathers perspective and what you guys go through. I valued every part of this video and will be saving it for my husband to look at when we decide to create our own little bundle of joy ❤ God bless you and your family and all the other wonderful dads out here 🤗

Thanks for this video, my wife is 12 weeks pregnant now with our first child. I can already feel the anxiety building up. Ill need to go ahead and get the communication going with my wife and some trusted fathers in my life, So I don’t crash and burn from anxiety. Thanks again!

This is really important. I've been preparing myself for being a mom, and with my history of depression and anxiety Ive been worrying about how I would handle it mentally. Now I know I need to watch out for my baby's daddy as well to make sure he's okay just like he'll be doing for me.

Aww I love this comment. It’s so sweet. I struggle with depression and anxiety as well and I always wonder how I would handle being a mom even tho I’m only 17. I wonder if I could do it. I hope you are doing well !! ❤️❤️

About the magical bond that supposedly all moms get with their newborns. Well, it's a myth that all moms get that starstruck loving feeling right from the start. Sure there are moms who do, but I for one needed time to get to know my child before falling madly in love. That doesn't mean I didn't love my daughter when I first held her, I did, but those deep feelings came only after I got to know her and took care of her. Some of us need time and you know what, that's so ok and so normal, just not talked about enough. 😊 Anyway, great to hear the side of the dad for once, thanks. ☺️

Sitting in the hospital recovery room, about 16 hrs after I just had my baby girl, and all of this is just yes. I’m SO glad you talked about the mental health side for the father. My husband has been so hands on and amazing but I am going to make sure I pay attention to his fears and feelings just as he’s doing for me. Thank you so much for this video!!!

When i had my first child and we were in the hospital...that was when I realized how much my husband had on his plate. But the best advice i can give is when the baby arrives take the first hour without visits from family and friends and let friends and family and nurses know ahead of time. Especially the nurses. (well, i had my last baby two years ago not in a pandemic. My heart goes out to all the new 2020 parrents.

I just want to say that as a father this video resonated with me 100%. But let me give you peace of mind. If and when you have a second child, this anxiety/depression/uncertainty is much less intense because you’ve been through it once and know how to handle it through your past experience. I just had a second child a week ago and so far I feel those same feelings trying to creep in and I’ve learned how to battle them intelligently.

She is 3 months right now with my first baby, a little boy and I’m so happy and excited and I’m ready for it. I’m 36yrs old and was told I would never have one so I had already made peace with that many nights I cried myself to sleep and then boom… baby lol I ain’t missing shit

Thank you I feel like you shed a lot of light on things that my husband who isn't the best at communicating was feeling... but he thinks hes a man and he shouldn't have feelings. But a lot of things make sense now. He would jump out the bed too and couldnt walk from being so tired. And saying like he couldn't do anything right.

This is the most Rare, Raw, Truth I ever heard about a man's experience after there wife's pregnancy. I'm in awe, I find it very cute how much you live your baby and at the same time it sound very rough you were going through a spiritual attack of anxiety. And I loved how Bianca was able to notice a little what was going on. It is so good to know that this because this is a video I am definitely going to be watchinf again in the next 15-20 years when I have children.

I’m having my first baby in may and this was so helpful. I need to remember that as much as I’m freaking out after the baby gets here my husband may be too. And it’s also relatable to hear that a man can go through some form of PPD/PPA. Thanks for the vid!

Loved hearing a guy’s experience. My husband actually had a more emotional connection with our son and took on taking care of our son a lot in the beginning. I actually felt a little bit more like you with the connection since it was not right away but breastfeeding helped me with that and in time the connection came. Having a child with your partner is definitely a journey.
