Girlll I feel you.I was born and grown up in Canada by age 10, and then moved back(?) to South Korea. I was shocked by how people think I'm 'too confident' for a girl. I tried so hard to hide my true personality and be a 'nice, good girl'. Also,I'm 125lb and 5'3 and always felt pressure to lose weight coz ideal body weight for female is 105lbs. I went back to Canada last year and whenever I said "I think I have to lose weight", everyone was like "You're perfect, why do you wanna lose weight???" so that was when I realized how crazy korean body standards are.

Stay positive girl 😊
@queenning285 жыл бұрын
125lb and 5'3 is like...not overweight at all, right? From a medical standard, I think it's totally within the normal/healthy range. If you're already medically healthy, and yet a society calls you "fat" and “too confident”, you know there's something wrong with that society, not with you. Just to share something about myself, I grew up in Southern China (where the beauty standard is similar to South Korea) and moved to Australia when I was 14. I have always been a tall girl and my weight & height haven't changed much since middle school. I'm 174cm (about 5'8) and 150lb, which is not overweight at all especially since I have large breasts (which are extra heavy). Back when I was in China, everyone told me I was cubby and of course, I believed them. But when I came to Australia, no one commented on my weight/body shape anymore. And when I said to people things like "I'm trying to lose weight", similar to what you said, everyone just looked at me like "girl you're kidding. this is Australia and we know what real obese people look like. you do not need to lose weight at all." The funniest, and saddest, thing is that when I went back to visit my family a couple years ago, and saw my childhood photos in our house, I realised that I was not chubby or fat at all. Even when I was like 10 and 12, I had a chubby but small face, a thin neck and a relatively thin body. I wouldn't call myself a "fat kid" at all, even though that was how I was brainwashed and perceived myself to be back then. That was when I realised, just how ridiculous and harmful that kind of East-Asian beauty standard is. Pressuring perfectly healthy children and teenages into thinking they're fat and ugly, and into trying to lose weight despite needing a lot of nutritions to grow.
@VeNuS29105 жыл бұрын
because honestly speaking, being fat or overweight is "not healthy". if you know that you have the right weight for your height and age then don't mind those people saying you are fat. but if you know that you are fat for your height and age, then thank those people pointing it out. it is for your own good.

People just don’t know that as they’re so used to seeing certain types on media 😔 But above all things, I learned I’m the best friend of my own body and haters gonna hate however I stay. So basically, love yourself and respect others as they are and enjoy your life to the fullest 🙌🏻🙌🏻
@samlah23196 жыл бұрын
Tbh the whole plus size movement is a funded movement that promotes unhealthy living and childlike behaviour. It's just marketing directed at people too childish to overcome their eating addictions, which stem from loneliness and other mental depressions. 50% of the seratonin your body creates comes from your gut. When you're fat it means your gut is so unhealthy and there is a bigger ratio of unhealthy bacteria than healthy bacteria, to the point that it can't digest at a normal healthy rate. I used to be super fat and went through major pains to work on my self-control and happiness. Promoting plus size is the equivelant of ignoring common sense and science to the point where you create a mental state where anyone who tries to tell you to better yourself is labelled an enemy or a hater when in fact these people probably care more about you than the people who support your unhealthy living style. Good luck to everyone

There's a Australian/British English on and off. Interesting. Anyway, I think it's really messed up (this is coming from a Korean-American, born & raised in the US) how people in South Korea still fat-shame people and even say it in public to the person. But it's no surprise since I am aware of how judgmental South Korean society and culture can be. If you look at South Korean media, advertisements, magazines, etc like many Western countries (like US and Europe) skinny is _normal_ but it's much less of an emphasis in Western countries now considering that Plus Size individuals are accepted. It's no surprise that unfortunately, many people suffer from mental disorders from body shaming and fat shaming in South Korea and some even go as far as commuting suicide. South Korea just doesn't have much support for mental disorders so that too exacerbates the situation of fat shaming people. It's nice to see that Taylor is so open about this situation and is honest about herself and how some people might view her in terms of being Plus Size. It might not fit the norm or be of a preference to some people, but at the least you should respect her and not look down on her/criticize her just for being Plus Size and modeling.

😂 it seems like people are interested in my accent. I’d say it’s a mixture of where I’ve been. I grew up most of my life in Korea. However, this host family from UK used to take care of me back in Australia while I studied there and I’ve lived in the Netherlands, Indonesia, LA, NY for a while. Honestly, I had to try hard to get rid of my “weird accent” to americanise it at previous work. (Most of Korean company prefers “fancy American English” if you know what I mean lol) anyway, I came to learn I just can’t since it’s how I learned from the beginning. I know my English is not perfect but then again, that got me thinking like “who would speak “perfect English””? What is the criteria for perfect English just like what is the criteria for perfect body hehe. I think every type of accent/dialects are beautiful just like every type of body. Stay blessed, everyone💕

The phenomenon of the fat model is purely political and in no way representative of an organic desire in people, on the whole to see fat women in lingerie. Only leftists and fat women care about this issue. Normal people think it is repulsive, and when it rides out its momentary wave of political correctness the fat models will go back to just being fat. Eventually realizing they were never actually models, or aspirational beauties, merely cudgels for crazy feminists to warp society for a particular brief moment in time.

Also during the NYFW casting week, my dark-skinned girls got rejected at the casting because they don’t have that “European look” (this is literally what she heard from the manager) Shouldn’t Fashion industry show more “real people”?

Hello friend. I am so sorry for your depression and sadness. I, too, have been there and I am just praying for you. I just prayed for you right now. In my depression, I found the most amazing thing after, it took a while to come around, but it did get better. I thought I was unworthy and unloved. But, in my depression, I thought, "I should read the Bible to see if there is anything in it, but it will probably be so boring." And I was so wrong. I found out that Jesus is God, that He loved me so much and cares for me when nobody else does, that He died for me to take the punishment for all the wrong I have ever done, and He came back to life after 3 days....all just for me. Just for me. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life". God loved us so much that He came down to earth as Jesus, lived a perfect life (we all fail at being perfect. We yell, are mean, lie, steal, hate, cheat, and are jealous...but Jesus NEVER did any of this...because of these bad things we do, we are separated from the perfect God, this God who loves us). But Jesus wanted to restore us to God, so He died on purpose while thinking about you...to wash away the bad things you have ever done, and came back to life so that you can be forgiven. My friend, if you turn away from your bad things you have thought, said, and done...and you accept Jesus as God, that He lived a perfect life, died and rose again just for you---just to allow you to be close to Him and run to His loving arms, you will be forgiven. And you will always have this friend who loves you always by your side in the difficult times and the good times, and He can make "all things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28). And God has good plans for you, "plans of peace and not of evil, to give you a hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11). He loves you, friend. Please come to Him to be forgiven and accepted by the Father who loves you so much and cares about your pain and difficulties.

As a Korean myself, I really feel for this model living in South Korea.. Even when I last visited S. Korea in 2017, I could only fit in the largest size clothing options. Most of the time, women's clothes are "one size" and let me tell you-- one size does NOT fit all. I could only fit into probably 3/60 "one size" shirts I found in one of the shopping streets-- I am typically USA size Medium. Even shoe sizing is very limited and I couldn't fit into the largest shoe size they had for women! I was in the men's shoe size range, but they were too wide for me.. Like many other people who commented, I sincerely hope Korea and other Asian countries can become more accepting of all different shapes and sizes. It's 2020! We need change!!! Also one of my neighbour died in the age of 40 due to cardiac arrest..and he was skinny as a rail. A lot of skinny people have this 'Skinny fat' condition that they are not aware of. Sure some of you can eat everything and stay skinny, but the fact that there are other factors such visceral fat (the kind of fat that covers your organs instead of sticking under your skin) which is highly dangerous cause you can't see it from outside. Also skinny people can still develop diabetes & cardiovascular disease because of the so called Visceral fat. People should focus on healthy eating more than just trying to get skinny. I have lost 25 lbs due to high fiber low carb diet and my blood count is a bliss even though I'm a size 14 - Tecnically what you call 'fat'. Focus on being healthy.

However, I really think that we have to realize it is completely wrong and we should feel ashamed of it. I feel bad for her the whole time that I was watching this.. (In this comment, I am not saying that all Korean people judge but from what I saw that people exist so don't get me wrong) Beauty is not such a thing that is permanent, for example when you see an old person and you don't think or say to that old person that "Oh you look so old ,its disgusting". It is because we see them as it is. They look old because they are old and also you also gonna be old soon. So why not seeing fat people or whatever people as it is? Looking down on them does not make anything better, it hurts people. so those who still judge, look at a mirror at home and realize you are not perfect and mind your business :)

Some of the responses to the positive comments I've seen are ridiculous! This is not about whether she's healthy or unhealthy or how relatively big she is, it's about having people be *decent human beings* and treat people with kindness regardless of what they look like or what you think of them! Everyone has different taste in what they are attracted to. If you don't like what someone looks like, well so what? Keep it moving. That does not give you the right to be mean and look down on someone. That person is not living their life for you. They did not wake up and get dressed just for your approval. There's something very wrong with you if you feel the need to put down a stranger or even someone you know. Don't be that evil person. When I hear these stories, I never understand why people go out of their way to purposely hurt someone they don't even know. I just don't get it. There is beauty in every body type and shape and color. Just because someone may not like a particular shape or shade, it doesn't mean there's no beauty in it. Don't worry about who doesn't like you, just focus on the people who do and who bring positivity to your life.
@Chocorotzi6 жыл бұрын
Exactly I don't understand why do they care about a person they don't know how its looks. They need to learn to respect people if you don't liked that your problem but don't have to offend the person because what you gain with that? nothing.
@vonzilla20826 жыл бұрын
Brian Abisdid To start, I know you already know there's a big difference between someone being on crack vs being overweight. That's not a real comparison. In general, just eat as healthy as you can and enjoy what you eat and enjoy life. Don't stress over food. To answer your question, if you don't know them, NO, it's not your place to say anything. You don't know them or their situation about why they are overweight, and they don't owe you any explanations. If this is a family member/friend and are concerned about their health, there's still absolutely no reason to insult or put the person down and say mean hurtful things. You can bring up concerns in a loving and tactful way without bashing the person or treating them wrongly or with disrespect. And there are plenty, and I mean PLENTY of skinny people with unhealthy lifestyles who are in just as much supposed danger of health issues. You cannot guage a person's health based solely on their outside appearance, especially when you don't know them. It is not your place to speculate. And there are plenty of skinny people who are sick. I know a lot of slim people with diabetes and high blood pressure and many other issues, so judging people simply because they are bigger is ridiculous and wrong. And mistreating them because they are bigger is an even greater wrong. There is no point to it and makes no sense. Mistreating someone simply because they might be unhealthy or because you don't like what they look like is nonsensical. There really is an evil behind it. And now I want to re-emphasize my original comment, because your comment actually is not related to what I said and is part of the reason why I made the comment in the first place. My whole point is, don't be evil and say mean insulting things to someone you don't know (or that you do know). *It doesn't matter what your opinion of them is.* Don't say mean hurtful things. Be a decent, kind, and respectful person.

Brian Abisdid you are fooling yourself. You're not really concerned for the fat person because if you were you'd show kindness and respect. What made YOU the medical expert? Do you know why this person is overweight? Is it genetic, a metabolic disorder or a deep emotional issue (many victims of sexual child abuse become obese to protect themselves). Live and let live. Accept. Be compassionate and put yourself in that persons place. Even a drug addict -- as your analogy -- will not find recovery through rejection and scorn. Fat people scare certain people because it reminds them of their own vulnerablity. People who feel good about themselves don't have to put anyone else down.
@daysjours6 жыл бұрын
Water & Sky facts are also not human beings! Forgive me but you're s nasty piece of work. You obviously have a low opinion of yourself so you use "crack heads" and "obese" people to hoist yourself up as some superior being. Without someone to look down on you feel like a lowlife. You actually expose yourself as a very small and mean person with the need to humiliate and dominate. Strong self assured people feel no need to do what you are doing here.

A problem with a lot of these comments is that they’re claiming this gorgeous woman is “glorifying obesity.” Some of y’all have never been in the shoes of overweight people. Society categorizes all of them as “fat,” when the problem varies anywhere from genetics to just plain unhealthy eating habits. And changing the average health of an entire country is pretty hard if you ask me, so America is doing great by just simply improving the overall mental health of these people. Because of this, people who have spent their entire life hiding from the public can step out into the world and make a contribution to society. And to me, that’s much more beautiful than fixing all of your problems with South Korean plastic surgery.
@ashb60856 жыл бұрын
Tucson Jim Just look at the media. You see companies everywhere endorsing plus size models. American artists are creating songs about the beauty of thicker women. Don’t you think that stirs up some confidence in people? Thank you for your work in health insurance, but we have to take into account that no matter how much you fight for it, surgery will never be cheap. I’m positive that it works wonders for the health of some people, but it certainly does not work for everyone. All I’m saying is American societal standards have options- options that allow you to have the choice to change or just be comfortable in your own shoes. And that is why “fat” Americans have a far better mental health than “fat” Koreans.
@ashb60856 жыл бұрын
Tucson Jim Jesus Christ you just went OFF. First of all, I NEVER said the media was perfect, of course there are things wrong with it, so idk why you decided to stray from the topic??? Second of all, stop being insensitive. “Caring about fatties getting to eat”??? At least my “pathetic” social standards aren’t just one-sided. Idk how I triggered you, but I didn’t come here to argue. Have a nice day!
@spacec48246 жыл бұрын
Even you admit that it is a problem. Why promote it then? Also, what is up with your mediocre attitude? "This is hard so doing a little bit is good enough". Would you have the same attitude about engineers and doctors? "Eh, this bridge is sagging but it is hard so setting it up like that is fine." "Eh, I removed some of your flesh eating bacteria, but this is very hard so that is good enough".

Water & Sky Japan is worse than Korea weight-wise. You're expected to be 35-45 kg - they're literal sticks. Girls there say "oh, every girl has taken diet pills. Even if they're fake and don't help - I'd say 80% have taken them!" Eating as little as possible is valued. And at least America has more of a health community - way more people are starting to really adapt healthy or healthy/fit lifestyles! They're eating enough, but eating well. Compared to just living off of 300-1000 calories a day, which is unhealthy for the average person. Possibly dangerous, too.
For those saying she's obese and unhealthy.... Did you watch the whole video? Don't be quick to judge. She said she works out and at a point, she even lost 25kg. That was when she realised the importance of mental health. Some people are actually "transitioning" so just how they look on the outside is not an accurate depiction of how healthy/unhealthy their lifestyle is. You may see a skinny girl today and she could be obese in a few months. Same way you could see an overweight person who is actually doing her best to stay healthy, but her flabby arms and thick thighs are taking time to burn fat. So please... Don't assume...
@mathaantje89656 жыл бұрын
Plus skinny doesn't automatically mean healthy. For all i know you might be skinny and eating instant noodles everyday. Plus most models nowaday that appear "healthy" frequently use drugs like cocaine on parties, is that healthy? You know what is the problem, visually people don't like to look at fat people, so they try to justify that by using the "it's not healthy, you should lose weight" card.
@anniemannie46136 жыл бұрын
@@mathaantje8965 EXACTLY! Appearances are deceiving. So when people hide behind their screens and pour out hate towards strangers living their own lives, it's very toxic and unnecessary. I think you raised a good point. When we criticize people for being too fat, too skinny, or too anything, and we don't actually know who they are, where they've come from, where they are now... it's extremely disrespectful to them because we aren't taking into consideration the journey that they are on.
@anniemannie46136 жыл бұрын
@@musicbeauty00 I feel you! It's uncalled for, honestly. And I don't get where all this hate is coming from. People have no right to trample on someone else's self esteem simply because they don't like how they look. People tell me all the time that being obese isn't a good thing so they feel it's their "duty" to point it out so obese people will work on themselves. Like "tough love". But does the harsh criticism REALLY help? I don't think so.

I was born and raised in Korea. This is so true. When I was in high school, I was chubby. There were guys on the street saying “oh look at that. She’s got elephant legs”. I didn’t even know them. Even now, if you are “ugly” (in Korean standard), some Korean guys will look down on you and treat you like a garbage. The first thing they say to each other when they meet is commenting about their appearance. For example, instead of saying “hey!! How are you? It’s been awhile!!”, they will say “oh hi! You look chubbier or you look prettier”. Not everyone but at least Majority of Korean I’ve interacted with were like that. I think this should be changed ASAP. It definitely made me feel insecure about my body and think less of me until I came to the states. Even now, I have a very low self-esteem. I wonder how I would be a different person now, if I was raised in a society where they respect any types of appearances, not judging every single parts of my look. People would say every countries, there are people who judge people by how they look but the problem is in whole another level.
