Thank you so much for covering this Asian Boss. I admire Miss Moon Jung's courage, and my family and I will donate. Single Mother's are Queens and deserve the utmost respect. Edit: It's so disheartening to know that single mother's are discriminated against. They have sacrificed so much to raise their children.
@josephrogers90404 жыл бұрын
@@thatstuff3288 I'm sorry if my comment came across that way. What I wanted to convey was that a woman who does the job of both parents should not be discriminated against as Moon Jung has. Rather they deserve our respect and help. They are acting as both parents, and I wanted to acknowledge their strength. She is a Queen in that regard. Also, I agree with you, it shouldn't be glorified. Children need both parents, but sometimes it doesn't work out that way.

Most single moms aren't doing it by choice. From this case, for example, she left because of an abusive partner. She left to protect herself and by extension her child. Attacking the victim shouldn't even be considered in this context. She shouldn't have to face discrimination because of circumstances she has no control over. Honestly I have to give props to Asian Boss. It couldn’t have been easy finding a single mom to contact and willing to be interviewed publicly. What non-Koreans won’t comprehend is that single moms ( or teen moms) are treated like pariahs. Not only do they face societal prejudice and degradation but even their parents face scrutiny for raising a daughter with a child out of wedlock (bad parenting, etc). On the scale of societal shame that they face, it’s the absolute worst - it’s actually exponentially worse than an affair.
@UnicornsPoopRainbows4 жыл бұрын
Affairs are totally normal in Korea, too. You would get more judgment for divorcing a cheating spouse than cheating yourself. I know of many couples who are divorced in every way except on paper. She really doesn't seem like she has any pride left, everything is for her son. She has no where to turn and maybe, just maybe, she can raise awareness of the issues and make a better life for her son. I hope she can. I get shade from my daughter's teacher because her mother (me) is not Korean. She is bilingual and a bit slow in language (totally normal). I get told at least twice a week to work on her Korean, most of what I say is Korean but she picks up English words more easily 🤷♀️ She is 2! I can only imagine the comments this poor mom gets.

@TheTechie Lucky to live in Norway? Maybe the difference between Norway and Sweden is huge, but in Sweden there are so many depressed people. During late fall, early spring and winter we never get to see the sun. People here are very lonely and you will be get judged if you are trying to talk to someone. If you cry in public people will just watching you with judgemental eyes. The family bond is usually not good in many families (of course there are some good ones, but there are a lot of neglect in many). Old people are put in homes where no family visits them and when becoming young adult, many barely speak to their family. Most people i know in Sweden wants to move away from here, and many wants to move to Korea (some has already moved to Korea, Japan and other European countries and they are happy that they did). But maybe Norway is better of than Sweden. The only thing that makes Sweden good in my opinion is the clean water and that the government takes human right seriously, and most people are pro gay marriages, abortions, etc. The vegan society and environmental movement are also pretty big which is nice, but otherwise it's a pretty depressive country to live in, and that is no wonder with the lack of D-vitamin. I would honestly rather live in Korea if they had more vegetarian food and if my fiancé didn't have a job that required him to live in Sweden. I know you are trying to be positive, but if he didn't want to live in Norway, I would be weird to hear "you already made it". Asians faces a lot of discrimination and racism (in least in Sweden), and that might be something that makes the living experience worse in these countries.
@dr.absurd3 жыл бұрын
@Mas2 Salleh I'm not really saying that South Korea is great. I'm saying that he doesn't have to be thankful for living in Norway unless he really likes it there. Everyone is different in different situations. Some would prefer Norway, some would prefer South Korea. I'm mainly giving general reasons to why someone might not like to live in Norway, because I really don't enjoy Sweden. Is Thailand that great? I thought it was like the Philippines, and my experience in the Philippines is just as bad as in Sweden, but they have different pros and cons.
@dr.absurd3 жыл бұрын
@Mas2 Salleh Interesting, because from they Thai I know says that Thailand isn't that great. Singapore is richer I know, my father lived there for a while and he can't stop talking about how much greater he thinks Singapore is than Sweden.

I was once a single parent, it was rough. My mother, sisters and brothers were very supportive. It takes a village to raise a child. My daughter has gone to college for her Batchelor, Master and Ph.D. Now looking back despite of criticisms and shunning from older adults, I have no regrets. I can certainly relate to that lady's story. We all do our very best in the interest of our children. KUDOS mother!

Do it for the moms in your own country,there are thousands more of them than in korea.Korea only has about 25000 single moms that they are aware of.I bet most countries have many many times more than that.
@UnicornsPoopRainbows4 жыл бұрын
@@rmorton3186 "That they are aware of." I live in Korea and because of the stigma around being single parents, many single parents won't seek help in fear of being stigmatized. Being a single parent PLUS having a non-"normal" child basically dooms her for a lifetime of criticism in the current society. In Korea, if your child even has a learning disability, the parents are blamed for it. Depression is seen as shameful. Taking government money is shameful. If you have nothing but your reputation, many in dire straits cling to that reputation. I don't think it is right but it is "normal" here. Not to mention how many people stay in abusive relationships because they can't imagine living as a single parent. Parents even allow their children to be abused because seeking outside help is "shameful" to the family. My husband's student was being abused by her father and brother, her social worker said, "He is a good dad. At least he pays for your education. You should drop the charges against him." after she went to the police. Her mother demanded she drop all charges. Don't try to dissuade others from donating to causes they think are worthwhile because it isn't in their own country. Maybe with more financial help and a bit of social change, people won't feel pressured to live in hell or give their children up for adoption.
