Thank you for this excellent video! I only recently found out about the Trainee PWP role and I have been applying for a few months ( 2 interviews so far, one of which is tomorrow!) This was a really helpful look at some aspects of the role I was unsure about, like the actual day of a Trainee PWP and what it might entail aswell as the academic focus and demands of the university portion of the course. The main thing that attracted me to the role is the paid training and the fact I can do something that makes a difference. Awesome work anyway, I have subbed and look forward to more insights from you!

I highly recommend most people, if they can afford it, avoid PWP and go to an MSc if Counselling/being a therapist is your end goal. Otherwise you’re just adding lower paid years on to your career that aren’t potentially necessary. If you have no experience in helping people, or want to move into Clinical Psych for example, then this is maybe a good idea.

Oooh the day in the life of a trainee pwp part just made me realise how different services are! I just qualified. Towards the end of my training i was doing 6 assessments in a day and then typically 6 telephone treatment sessions with 6 online treatments the other days. Didn’t realise services and caseloads differed so much!

Thanks for this video I have an interview next week and this was super helpful - congrats on getting into the DClinPsy! I have a question to piggyback off of this as one day my goal is to do the DClinPsy too (but also hoping to make a career out of PWP itself!) and given that you got the place during your training, did you ever have any awkward questions about the 'ethics' of doing the trainee PWP course but then going to do the doctorate? I've read some forums which question the ethics of that as usually you're 'expected' to work as a PWP for at least a year or two to get the 'money's worth' out of the course being funded by the NHS. Would be great to hear your experiences?

Hi there, thank you so much for doing what you're doing! I just wanted to ask, when applying to be a PWP, I am looking at accredited courses on the BPS website and some of the PWP courses have different names, not exactly the one you listed. Though I think the exact one you listed is listed by some of the universities. For example, Essex University has a course called "PWP Graduate Certificate Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner" and it doesn't specify "Low intensity Cognitive Behavioural etc.". Probably going to be a dumb question but would you recommend doing the one which specifies low intensity cognitive behavioural etc. Or does it not really matter. Just worried that doing the Essex one, may not allow one to work in the same scope as the one with low intensity CBT one. Also I found one called: "Graduate Certificate in Evidence Based Low Intensity CBT (IAPT PWP)" would you suggest this is the best PWP course to go for. Sorry I know it's a very specific question and completely understand if you don't know. Should I just contact the BPS and ask this?

This is really helpful, thank you! You mentioned that after being a PWP for 2 years you will then be able to apply to become a cognitive behavioral therapist, do you mean to study/to do a master's or you can apply for a job/role as a CBT?
