Literally in my top three Pertwee stories. It’s terrific. It’s fun, it’s atmospheric, brilliant sets and wonderful imagination. I’ve never understood the dislike for it.

The model effects for this story are really good! It's also the first Pertwee story that is entirely studio bound. All the scenes of the Peladon exteriors were shot on a film set at Studio 2 at Ealing. I personally think this is a very charming story and a very good one for Jo Grant. Alpha Centauri divides fans, but I think they're an adorable character.

I'm not ashamed to say this story is my favourite of the Season. My love for Curse of Peladon is on a par with The Web Planet and The Moonbase - all three shaped by the endless reading and repeat readings of the Target novels I had in the mid seventies. I really wish this had started the series in many ways, as it would have wrongfooted the audience into thinking the TARDIS was working, the Doctor had moved on from UNIT etc The film work of the Doctor and Jo on the cliff is brilliant, and this first episode really sets up the alien culture of this planet. In many ways it feels like a Hartnell. Great performance from Katy Manning in this one - definitely one of Jo's strongest stories.

I was one of those salespersons (at Radio Shack, no less) that had to look up VISA numbers in a booklet, then crunch the card in the machine. Lots of those carbon copy-type slips in the till.

This is David Troughton's third role in Doctor Who..He previously played a guard in The Enemy of the World and Private Moore in The War Games. He has also voiced the second Doctor for Big Finish.

I always think that this story marked a step change in the relationship between Jo and the Dr. From this story onwards Jo became a top tier companion and her relationship with the Dr a template for future TARDIS Teams.

When Alpha Centauri returned in "Empress of Mars", so did Ysanne Churchman to provide the voice, over 40 years later!

The Doctor Who Magic the Gathering Mountain card for this story is lovely. Alpha Centauri was played by the same voice actress in the classic and modern series.

What you have to remember is that the TARDIS is pretty broken and old which is why the various features like the HADS dont always work, It doesnt help that the Dr tinkers with it and doesnt fully know what hes doing. especially at the moment due to having his knowledge blocked by the time lords.

I think the general fan view of this story is quite favourable - I am fond of it myself, as I like the quasi-medieval setting and the menagerie of aliens. This was the first of only two Pertwee stories to feature no location filming at all, and it’s also notable for being the first to be shown out of production order. Although the second story broadcast this season, it was the third to be made. Much has been made of the plot’s similarity to real life events at the time, as this went out just as Britain was in the process of joining what was then called the EEC after years of trying. Terrance Dicks would later deny that Brian Hayles was being deliberately allegorical, though he did concede that the story may well have been moulded, even if just unconsciously, by the news of the accession to the Common Market. Convenient that Jo is already dressed up at the start, as it makes it easier for her to pass as a princess - interesting also that she was planning to go out with Mike Yates before the Doctor whisked her off, because that indicates that at this point the notion of Jo and Yates getting together had still not been entirely abandoned.

Just discovered that Ysanne Churchman (Alpha Centauri) died at the end of July this year aged 99.

RIP. It would've been nice if she'd have made the "centauri", but a good innings nonetheless

Almost exactly the same age as David Graham. She was 2 months older than him and he died 2 and half months after her also aged 99. Arnold Yarrow remains the oldest living actor to have appeared in Dr Who aged 104.

09:14 Thank God they didn't decide to have fluid spurting out of Alpha Centauri's head. Lennie Mayne would've had a fit.

The TARDIS falls of the cliff at the end of The Rescue, Vicki’s first story. The same footage was used at the start of The Romans: The Slave Traders.

This is a great Pertwee story... Some Facts 1)Peladon is not only the name of the king,it is also the name of the planet 2)Lennie Mayne was an Australian director, who had a colourful turn of phrase..So you have to do that in an Australian accent 3)I'm surprised you didn't recognise Geoffrey Toone who plays Hepesh. Because he also appeared in the Dr Who and The Daleks Peter Cushing Movie as a Thal.. 4)Alpha Centauri is not a he or a she,Alpha is an IT..A hemphrarodite hexapod. 5) This is a definite 10/10 from me 6)Henry Gilbert who plays Torbis,(who gets killed off in this episode)sadly died exactly 1 year after this episode was broadcast. 7)The mountain that the TARDIS lands on halfway up it is called Mount Megeshra

Always think it's cheatingly a story copout that the tardis is indestructible. But given it is, why don't they stay inside while it falls? Someone answered me before that they would get banged about too much as it falls. I hardly think a bit of tumbling around the console room could be worse than getting parted from the tardis. This way, sooner or later he will get parted from the tardis as it falls off a ship into the sea, or off an industrial gantry into a vat of some hot or corrosive fluid, or falls into a monster-guarded barbed wire military site impossible to get into.

This is one of a few “better” Who stories that I’m out of step with the majority, it doesn’t do anything for me. It’s well produced, directed and the plot is decent enough I suppose but once a certain twist occurs there’s not a lot that keeps me interested. I’ll stick with it, might be funny to see the EU parallels play out with the shenanigans of the last few years now firmly in hindsight.
