This episode has the introduction of my favorite minor character, and also everyone else's favorite: STEVE! You'll understand eventually. I've never cared much for shipping... or romance in general, really, in fiction or reality. Your talk about all that did make me realize something else this episode might be trying to say that I didn't see before, though: well-written stories find a balance. It's the contrast that makes conflict meaningful. Something I like a lot in this episode that I think I sort of missed the first time I watched it: While she's still upset about it, Luz immediately realizes that King isn't being malicious and that he genuinely does not understand what he did wrong. King said that "King" is "more of a rank than a name", so what is his name? Well, THE KING OF DEMONS needs no lowly pleasure such as a NAME! Anyway, it's obviously "Mr. Wiggles" because Eda changed his name from "King" to "Mr. Wiggles" back in episode 3 and that definitely wasn't a one-off joke that will never come back.

Eda deserves ALL Of the adoration. Actually, Dana Terrace has said in interviews that she originally started planning the show because she wanted to do a story about Eda, but another classmate told her that no one would ever want to watch something that starred an old woman, which only made her more determined to make one out of spite. Betting that classmate feels pretty dumb right now. ALSO! This was the episode that made me realize that the flowers in this show have hidden meanings! The 'Bloom of Eternal Youth' is actually based on a Bellflower, which represents "Constancy" (existing in an unchanging state) in floriography, and also has the meaning of "I am always thinking of you" which is well conveyed with Eda and Lilith's bonding at the end of this episode.

on the writing fanfiction side and use of characters I can recommend Overly Sarcastic Productions, their trope talks are great for taking notes on how various tropes have been used and viewed, especially the videos on fridging, mary sue, and anti-hero. Among the others of course, but those cover some of the pitfalls and mis-use of the terms as well and different ways to look at stories and themes often seen in fanfiction. Also pretty sure they did a video on fanfiction *heck one of the vids I have on quick link is the Arthurian legends vid as it wonderfully points out that like 99% or so of King Arthur stuff we know today was fanfiction, and fanfiction built ontop of fanfiction.

Okay, so now that the fact that Luz is a bit of a writer has been brought up, I guess it's time to talk about one of the central mysteries of the show. 1. Both Luz and Amity are big fans of Azura. 2. Luz's self-insert oc is named "Luzura." 3. She is open to collaboration. 4. The Azura novels are inexplicably available on both Earth AND the Boiling Isles. 5. On the cover art of "The Good Witch Azura," the title character strongly resembles Luz, but with mint green hair, like Amity. 6. Many of the events in Luz's adventures tend to mirror Azura's fictional ones. 7. Time travel? I think you can see what's going on here.

I used to write something with someone. Not on the principle of "let's throw a lot of ideas into one bag and see what comes out", but I was the main lead of the world and the plot. And when writing from a first-person perspective, I ran the story from the point of view of several characters. And my co-writer from the point of view of several other characters. So these were 2 stories with common denominators happening at the same time. And writing it was absolutely tragic. The stories were liked by the fans, it was one of the most popular titles on the forum. But writing together when the characters from both stories got together and did something together ... and that insistently guiding the plot along the path I wanted to lead it, but at the same time not limiting my co-writer too much ... The plan was that the project would be written by 3 people. But one quit before he started. And now I regret that I even agreed to cooperate because to this day I am struggling with the holes caused by the resignation of the second co-writer. That's why I can't imagine writing with a large group of people. Listening to the suggestion, sure. But writing together ... it's just crap.

Best part of this episode is realizing Eda fell for the same kind of trap Luz did in episode 2. Different bait, same scheme.

Ah what are these basement dwellers doing out in natural sunlight. By far one of the best lines this episode.

Sadness for sadness sake is emotionally exhausting... but some of my favorite games and shows and media are the ones that made me unexpectedly cry. I wonder if maybe people who aren't overly bummed out by sad stuff find major angst cathartic in the way I find smaller sad moments in overall happy or exciting media.

Unrelated to the show but I love your speech about red haired women being called witches. In my unwritten book, red hair is referred to as a crown of flames.
