as a Taiwanese American born and raised in Southern California learning household Taiwanese, it is rare when I hear Taiwanese. So when I hear it, I feel like the person speaking it is family.

Despite living in Australia almost his whole life, this guy is still able to speak Taiwanese pretty well and speak it with a Taiwanese accent. Good on you mate!
My Taiwanese is also better than my mandarin. When I go back to Taiwan sometimes the older shopkeepers see that I look younger and switch from speaking Taiwanese to speaking mandarin and I have to ask them to switch back. Then they get very surprised that I can speak Taiwanese but not mandarin. It’s pretty funny

It's interesting hearing the code-switching between English and Taiwanese. Also no wonder our man here is built like Wolverine since he works construction.

Damn, it's interesting to hear his Aussie accent. His first point of Australia being very multicultural is incredibly true. Go down the street and I will see at least 5 different nationalities, let alone going to the shops.

台灣正常是翻布里斯"本",這邊台灣移民很多,之前看資料大概移民澳洲的台灣人有一半以上住在布里斯本

Referring to it as “Joss paper” is better than “ghost paper” because it’s not only for ghosts. It’s also used for various gods, ancestors, and spirits.

I was confused when you called "Hokien" as Taiwanese. It is spoken in many other places outside of Taiwan.

In Taiwan, we just name it Taiwanese. Indonesia and Malaysia are sharing the same language too, they also name it in there own way.

You're not confused. You're trying to start a discussion on KZbin. We are not confused either. Whether Chinese like it or not, we're calling it Taiwanese. It's a free world.
