From my experience any new kid we got in our schools in elementary/middle school was like a temporary celebrity because everyone wanted to learn about them and be friends with the cool new guy. But eventually in high school the schools are so big that any new kid is just another face in the crowd.

I had to change schools a lot because my dad was in the military and saying goodbye to my friends was the hardest thing. Those amazing people were like family to me. It sucked being thrown into a new place and not knowing anyone.

I know that what you described happens to a lot of people, but I actually did pretty well. I was forced to adapt quickly, which I did. I surprised myself because I don't like change that much. I also was able to make friends pretty quickly, and everyone was really nice. What happened to me must be the best-case scenario, but I'm glad I didn't have a hard time. Also, everyone knew each other, and in a month or two, I felt like I was also part of the school.

I remember being new in school, I was rather stoic and silent, didn't interact with others unless they got the same common interest as me, once I actually started to befriend others I started to open up more, of course still be my usual calm self lol

Being the new kid was never a problem for me. The problem for me, was the fact that people would still be interested in me later down the line, which was tiring, since I don't really like being bothered by groupies & naive girls that confuse admiration for love (those kinds of girls learn the hard way, mind you.) I'd be a lost soul in those hallways, but it never actually made me nervous. There were usually teachers that stood out in the hallways that you could ask for directions from, and they wouldn't make a fuss over that (at least to me, as I was always greeted with a smile of sorts). The funny thing that happens when I'm lost is that I just go into random classes, and since nobody knows me (because it's usually the beginning of school at a new school), people don't even question whether or not I'm supposed to be in that class & we all just start chatting up a storm. 😂

I believe it was hard because imma introvert and completely changing ur environment after being comfortable was hell for me. Then, I go to the school I'm in now, and suddenly I loathe myself. This is my 3rd school change in a few years because my family moves around a lot. It’s really demolished my social skills, I can’t hold friendships long because on average I’ve moved every single school year since about 3rd grade. I’m in a permanent school now, for sure. I've changed to 9 schools. I've been the popular kid, the quiet kid, the smart kid, the dumb kid. Throughout the years, I've noticed a 3 year cycle. The first year is obviously the worst. If you weren't put in a strong friend group it was difficult but I gave it time. What I did was just be kind to everyone to let them know I'm chill. I also observed people's groups and interests. If I had the same interests as someone else, I would go up to them and talk a bit. It doesn't have to be long. In case you're shy, a simple compliment is enough. For me it was shoes. I went up to people and complimented their shoes and I walked away. I did this to multiple people to let them know I exist and have interests. The 2nd year is a bit better. Sometimes the small conversations from last year made people come up to me and a friend group would be made. If that doesn't work, there are new students who are experiencing the same thing and if you go up to them, they are more likely to make friends with. By the 3rd year, I was usually comfortable with where I was but if that doesn't work, there are always other new kids. I don't know about the 4th year because I never made it that far. Just be kind to everyone and hopefully you will receive the best in return.

A year ago I moved to Germany and so I had to transfer schools, now I am finishing 10th grade and I plan to study at this school for another three years (in my school you can study for 13 years, but of course you can leave after 9th grade and after 10th, but that's not the point). At my last school I had a group of friends that I went out with quite often and we had a lot of fun together. At my new school, I'm a loner. I'm a nice, friendly and helpful person, but I haven't managed to make any friends in a whole year. And I understand why they don't want to be friends with me. German is not my first language, and I can't speak to them at the same level as they do, although I understand 90% of what I read and hear in German, but I honestly don't speak that well. If I were them I wouldn't aspire to become "best friends" with a foreigner either, so I'm not complaining about my current situation. There's a girl in my class who knows my native language, and I enjoy talking to her, but only if we're discussing the learning process. I am not interested in her hobbies and she is not interested in mine. Besides, she has her own group of friends that she has known for a long time. I do not have much contact with the others in my class, both because I do not speak German enough and because they have developed their own groups of friends in 10 years of school and I don't think they are interested in getting to know a classmate who does not speak much. I tried, honestly, I tried many times to make friends, I even found the strength to confess my feelings to a German classmate, although I am a very shy person. He offered to stay friends, but very politely, for which I am very grateful. However, I don't think we are friends, as we don't communicate due to my lack of German language skills... Sometimes it makes me sad to think that I can't make friends. I have been in the company of friends at this school a few times, but I felt uncomfortable, and I was silent a lot from not being able to fit into the conversation. I continued to be in one group of friends for six months, but the situation did not change in any way. I felt that I was stressing them out with my presence because I was just standing around and being silent, because I was never able to fit into the conversation. And if I say something in German, some of these "friends" start looking at me strangely, as if I shouldn't have opened my mouth in the first place, and this sometimes made me feel very depressed. If they behave like that, they are not friends. I've left their company and only occasionally cross paths with them. I know some good people, but I can't call them my friends. Although the thought of being a school loner sometimes makes me a little sad, it's not that bad. I feel good when I'm alone, and I often feel more relaxed, because I don't have to think about topics to talk about with someone I hardly know. I concentrate on studying, get good grades and have gained the respect of many teachers. As I said, I will be at this school for another three years, and I hope that I will make friends and improve my German language skills. And if in three years I still remain a school loner... That's still okay. Kind of sad, but not a big problem.

quick storytime i had to change schools because we had to move to a new a city because in our neighborhood there was an insect infestation, our backyard was often visited by wasps and bees, and bugs just kept breaking into our house somehow. I hadn't seen any, but apparently everyone else had. I really hated making new friends because at the time the pandemic came and we struggled to get groceries and we had to order out much more often than usual and i started to gain some weight, so i didn't look fresh like i used to. luckily for me, I don't know why but literally everyone at my school was so friendly, they treated me like i was some kind of superhuman and most of them wanted to hang out with me and stuff, only the crooks and thugs didnt really care, and the cheeto girls ofc.
