Although I am not a fan of Mahathir, cant deny that he still put Malaysia on the global stage First time I am hearing about the twinning programme, didnt know it's a government initiative, I guess sometimes as a politician, it's tough to balance between policies to be implemented and rakyat's demand Thanks for the podcast YCS team!! Really enjoyed this one
@YumChaSessions2 жыл бұрын
Indeed bro. I think prior to speaking to him and getting him to open up, maybe I was a bit naive to think there is a perfect decision to make everyone happy. Now I realize maybe it was a bit difficult to balance these things when you’re at the top. . It’s 2022 la - maybe at that time it was the best solution (debatable) but if anything, now is the time to change dy. twinning programme was a mind blowing thing for me too!

Interesting interview. You asked the question about affirmative action. Tun Mahathir gave his opinion as to why this is necessary. As none of you appear to be bumiputra, I must ask if you found his opinion on this valid? If so why or why not. Good luck to you all... Tun Included.
@YumChaSessions2 жыл бұрын
I personally believe it *was* necessary. Early days of multi-cultural independence can give off the idea of unstable government and people. Today things should be treated more equally in my opinion. . We need more foreign investment in Malaysia. Favouring the bumiputera can come with negative implications which are slowly affecting the country as a whole. A few examples are: 1. Unfair treatment to other races/foreign businesses due to the favouring of the bumiputera staff / local companies. 2. Majority of bumiputeras taking advantage of the system (which Tun M has highlighted in the podcast) which discourage foreign investment; this is evident as many HQs of foreign companies have moved to Singapore despite Malaysia's cheaper labour and larger land space. . All-in-all, the podcast serves as an informative tool and a point of discussion for many who wouldn't consider listening to Tun M's point of view. The man is born during an era of chaos and war. If we see it from his point of view, the man had two goals in mind: 1. Maintain peace at all costs (preventing civil war amongst the races) 2. Drive the country forward economically with whatever resources Malaysia had / will have . Many may not have agreed with his methods but he is a pragmatic man. A lot of people can disagree but at the same time, I also believe a lot of those same people who complain, wouldn't have been able to bring the country to half of where it is today. Tun M in many ways - deserves a lot of respect for what he's done. . Don't forget to subscribe if you haven't. :D
