Jesus Christ supports TITHING. His last sentences in Mathew 23:23 and Luke 11:42 confirms that Jesus believes tithing is IMPORTANT. However, He emphasized that we should also pay attention to the MORE IMPORTANT things as well. Hence, rather teach people to know they can't bribe God through tithes but NOT to stop tithing. I am glad to say that His grace has enabled me to tithe regularly, cheerfully and without struggle (by default) while I'm grateful that Christ has paid all my debt in full - the basis of my salvation and prosperity....these are what we are taught in RCCG. We also know how the tithes are used in general as we give offerings too. We were taught at Sunday School even in Junior/Children church. Hence, I ask that God will forgive you for doing what journalists sometimes do...take a short extract or a single sermon to make wrong overall assumptions. Worship at RCCG or LFC regularly for at least a whole year to fully understand all that these Pastors preach about tithing before concluding. One of your statements in your analysis expresses my stand as a church leader. Any giving to God or his course from personal LOVE, GRATITUDE, DEVOTION OR COMMITMENT to God and his course, whether Tithe or others, can never be an error; but giving with a heart of transaction/business with God, fear (to escape God's wrath and hell), pride of self righteousness, or to attain religious hierarchy, etc is wrong as well as unbiblical because it is motivated by self. @@Mac_TO20 Firstly, every preacher has their own walk with God and their unique journey in the ministry. They also progressively learn the word just like every other Christian. The word of God is understood precept by precept. A little today and a little more tomorrow. Nobody gets all the knowledge they will acquire in their lifetime from day one. As you grow and learn more you will inculcate that new knowledge into your life and your ministry. Secondly, the fact that we all have the Holy Spirit does not mean we all will understand everthing the exact same way and at the exact same time. The Holy Spirit can only teach us acording to our capacity to understand and our willingness to receive and appropriate what He teaches. Our flesh, our environment and our religious programming can make it more difficult for the Holy Spirit to change certain errors in our belief system. Not every believer or minister is as sensitive to the Holy Spirit or as teachable as you may assume. One last thing I would add is that a lot of believers measure their doctrinal accuracy by their material or eartly successes. Some also measure it by the number of supernatural occurrences in their lives and ministry. However, grace and the anointing can work in our lives even when there are errors in our doctrine. The gifts and the calling of God do not require theological excellence to function. These results sometimes deceive us to assume that our interpretation of scripture must be perfect for God to be working in us. Church leaders with big and seemingly successful ministries can easily fall into this trap, and followers will very easily accept and digest anything a successful preacher says without diligently verifying from the word of God.

If after 95 years of someone's life he wakes up and no longer believes in tithing good for him. If he wants to teach it, even better. Hello!! In this case of tithing, we really have to understand two things; 1. First fruit offering and 2. Free will offering. Let us not forget that Jesus only came to fulfill the law and not to exclude any jot out of the law and to save us from the power of death and Satan. The reason why many of us are confused, is because we don't know the reasons of God's instructions. And some of our teachers who we really trust, are not patient enough to learn and to teach us the reasons in details. The truth remains that many Christians have failed in the area of studying the Bible but rather depend wholly on what they hear from their GOs, Bishops, Pastors and Prophets. Studying the doctrine of tithing from the Bible shows that Christianity has nothing to do with tithing. Is there any record in the Bible where either our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ or His Apostles received tithes? The answer is NO! If one then calls himself a disciple of Jesus Christ but he does what neither Jesus Christ nor His early disciples did nor commanded, is that person truly a disciple? What I see in Christianity of today, especially in Africa, is a combination of Christianity and Judaism period! But Jesus Christ spoke against such combination according to the gospel of Luke where he spoke of pouring a new wine into an old bottle and similarly using a piece of new cloth to mend an old cloth that is torn. I know many Christians would not understand that parable. Jesus Christ said that new wine will certainly burst the old bottle and the new piece of cloth will make the tear on the old cloth worse with time. This parable has two significant meanings: 1. About the old covenant (that is, Old Testament) and the new covenant (that is, New Testament); 2. About old life in sin and new life in Christ. Now, what is happening in the Christendom today? Is it not because of mainly tithes that many people whose ministries in the Christendom originally wouldn't be pastoral work, or office of a Prophet, are now calling themselves into those offices by hook and crook, with many acquiring diabolical powers to perform signs and wonders, while some others arrange for fake miracles, in some so-called Churches, using the name of Jesus Christ? This is, in my understanding, the meaning of "the new wine bursting the old bottle and the new piece of cloth making the tear on an old cloth worse" as said by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Believe me, if the doctrine of tithing was not introduced in Christianity, just like the early Church didn't talk of it, there wouldn't have been so many Churches today scattered everywhere, both real and fake or good and bad ones. For you to know the truth in what I am saying, how many out of these uncountable Churches are truly bent on preparing their congregants for the kingdom of God by preaching and telling them the truth without compromise? Payment of tithes in Christianity is not something the Church members should be mandated to do by their Pastors, Bishops and GOs, but should be done out of personal discretion, since it is no sin to do so out of personal conviction or discretion. But to make it mandatory in Churches, no no no, it is not part of Christianity, if we must really say the truth! If I may ask, how many Pastors, Bishops and GOs take time to teach their congregants how tithes should be utilized, according to the Bible? You would agree with me that majority of them don't do that, and to me, this is insincerity.

In another words you may give the same amount but don't regard it as tithe but offering as taught by Paul. Well, many that tithe and defend the subject would tell you they don't do it out of fear. Truth is, most of them do it to avoid some consequence of not doing it. I tell you this, it is still fear. Every man of God that holds on to preaching the message of Tithing usually presents what awaits those that default. This puts people in bondage. In my analysis, there are 3 categories of preachers that wouldn't let this Tithing doctrine go: 1. Those that were taught the same and couldn't see themselves believing anything else. 2. Those that don't trust that God is able to supply all the provisions necessary for church administration, so they resort to manipulating people to get the funds. 3. Those that just want to make money off people.

Finally, BRG has dropped the greatest bomb in history! A couple of reasons actually made me reject the whole concept of tithing especially when I had issues with even having to calculate 10% out of my daily or weekly earnings cos I have never for once settled for salary job which is easy to really figure out your 10%. It just got more disgusting to me after I found out that scripture Creflo used and a few others any time I hear preachers trying to paint not tithing or tithing partly as some also put it really annoying.... I've studied a couple of scriptures that refer to the isrealites tithing and how the proceeds were to be spent and all that. These preachers uses only the reference in malachi because of the courses just to put people who should be free in bondage again. I still believe the truth is simple if anyone would dare embrace it, it's true Christians should give but it should be out of love, not even a tenth again but all they have to offer in truth as can be seen in the book of Acts. Ananaias and his wife died not because they withheld a part of their proceed but because they lied about it. In summary, I still believe the concept of having to give A DEFINITE TENTH in this new testament dispensation is erroneous cos you'll still be guilty if you TITHE CORRECTLY out of your salary but fail to do it out of your little side earnings as small as the recharge card someone got you!.

Creflo did not say tithing is bad or wrong but emphasizing that (1) Justifying yourself with your tithe is wrong and that's exactly what Jesus taught in Luke 18. (2) Creflo was of the 'notion' that tithe should be 'given' out of free volition and not under duress or by fear. That's ok, except that Creflo mistook tithing for 'giving'. There different kinds of giving in the Bible....to the Poor/hungry/needy, your parents, the work of God etc. However, read carefully every scripture that talked about tithing. None says 'give' your tithe. Instead 'bring' or 'pay' is used. Meaning tithe is for the Lord and not yours. You can only give what's yours. what's not yours, you either 'pay' or 'bring' to the owner! That said, paying your tithe by grace and not by fear is the key, and never feel guilty when you don't. Fact is, if you have grace for tithing, you do it like air you breathe without struggles and that's where abundance is born . KEY DON'T JUSTIFY YOURSELF WHEN YOU DO. BECAUSE GRACE GAVE YOU THE POWER TO 'PAY' YOUR TITHE IN THE FIRST PLACE. Think of it, many who genuinely wanted to pay their tithe same day you did yours, died before they did. But grace made the difference for you. That's what Jesus taught.

I love your question on faith and fear. But moreso I believe a believer must act based on revelation and not compulsion. On the issue of tithing, the presentation and motive may be wrong but that does not disannul the fact that blessing as stated in Malachi though not of salvational value, can not be denied if one is tithing based on understanding and conviction. God started man and creation by grace, the law came in between and He is ending it with grace. In essence Abraham and Jacob (examples of God's grace) paid tithe by revelation without compulsion. As Abraham's children by faith I can pay because I believe I am walking in the same faith of Abraham. So. all the argument on tithe only makes sense if it's condemnation is based on the fact that the motive were wrong not done by faith but out of compulsion and fear.

When we repent and receive Jesus in our life and begin to live in the fear of God we will kno the truth and it will set us free. Tithe is in the bible. I pay tithe in the love of God and to make things go on well in d church am not compelled or forced no matter who preaches it as.a law. Am not under the law. It is in that same bible to pray for the peace of Jerusalem whosever loves them and pray for them will be blessed, psalm 122:6. Is also there not to take Shabbat for granted. Isaiah 58: 13 ~14. When tithing started in the old testament, it is to be given to the priests, the widows(widowers inclusive), orphans and strangers.. And if you're in a church where this is not done, you can as well keep your money to yourself and give it to the people who need it directly instead of paying it in a church where you know that it won't go to the rightful place. Tithing is to teach us how to give basically. It's to teach us kindness and generosity. So all this extra attachment that didn't come from the Scriptures is wrong.

I know we all have to contend for our "faith" just like Paul did. Before Paul contended, he already had a vast knowledge of the scriptures. We all need to do the same as Paul. To really understand biblical tithing, Leviticus 27, Numbers 18, Deuteronomy 12, Deuteronomy 14, Deuteronomy 26, Nehemiah 10, Nehemiah 11, Nehemiah 12 and Nehemiah 13 shed more light. With the death of Christ and his resurrection, the need for Levites to function as priests (Levitical priesthood) came to an end. We (believers in Christ) have all become Priests (1 Peter 2:9) - royal priesthoods for that matter. Since there is no longer need for Levitical priests who are the only ones entitled to collect the tithes, there's no need for tithes to be paid. Anyone who therefore collects tithes on behalf on Levite priests impersonate them. For those who say Jacob gave a tenth of all he had to God. Yes, he did. He was not commanded. He did it because he made a vow to God (Genesis 28:20-22). He was not compelled or forced to do. So, christians are not mandated to do it. It should be a personal thing between an individual and God. Paul emphasized willful giving (and not giving out of compulsion) for God's work to continue. This is what should be preached in churches and not to giving of tithe. Sacrifice givers are better givers than tithe payers.

Thank you George for this video and for your honesty. For me, the bigger issue I find here is not even Tithes it's the manner in which the concepts of 'fear', 'guilt', 'faith', and 'love' are being discussed or portrayed. In a subtle and subliminal manner fear and guilt have been pitted as dimetric opposites and arch enemies of faith and love. They're painted only as tools of subjugation the religious establishment uses to fleece people. This is unwholesome and dangerous. There is an entire department of the Holy Spirit called the Spirit of the fear of the Lord (Isa 11:2). Jesus himself wrote a letter to the seven churches in Revelation chapters 1-3, maybe if the Pastor reads that letter he might throw it out because it contains some elements of fear and guilt. We must understand that the goal of Christianity is Christlikeness and each of us is still on that journey. When we're confronted with areas we need to improve it may evoke feelings of guilt. Like when people cheat on someone they truly love, they feel guilty and that guilt is not religion, it should lead to repentance and a forsaking of those ways. It doesn't mean the person is not a good person (at heart), it only means there are areas he's depending on God's grace to transform in him or her. Talking about faith and fear, I don't know if you've heard the song 'Oceans' by Hillsong. Essentially, it talks about God calling a person to walk with Him in the middle of an Ocean, obviously where feet will fail. And the person is so uncertain and fearful but obeys nonetheless. And just by that act of accepting to make that risky journey with God the person ends up growing faith and trust without borders. Sometimes, It's in the middle of uncertainty that we meet Jesus. It may also be in the middle of a fearful situation that we build immense faith. Let's all remember that one of the commonest manifestations of the devil is self will. Selah.
