The concept of tithing remains a huge debate in Nigeria with different ideologies. Pastor Chris, Sam Adeyemi, Abel Damina , Bishop Oyedepo and Bishop Mike Okonkwo who publicly confessed and had to change all see things differently. Who do you believe?

A certain atheist opined that religion is the opium of the people. When a government cannot cater for the wellbeing of it's citizens, the citizens are left no other choice than to seek out what would give them a momentary semblance of relief . There's where the role of these places of worship comes in handy!

@BeingRealGeorge, this is the key to tithe issue in the Bible. Levites are not commanded to pay tithe because they occupy the priesthood in the Old Testament to fulfill Exodus 19:6. They’re also a symbol of the believers in the New Covenant because the believers also occupy the priesthood 1 Peter 2: 9

I'm not a disciple to most of these men but I tithe and take care of the needy. I can tell you it works wonders. Tithing doesn't fail. I left from making less than $10 a month as a graduate to making thousands of dollars a month living in Africa when I started setting aside my tithes and not joking with it. Please, my dear thank God for your life. It is good to know that you're no longer giving out of fear and guilt. But my question to you is why where you giving out of fear and guilt? Could it be that they don't preach cheerful and generous giving at winners or that you are so distracted from understanding the principles of acceptable giving taught in winners then which include cheerful and generous giving? I believe if you had done what you did in lockdown earlier, you would have gotten the same result. My point is that being a member of any Church doesn't take away our responsibilities in the kingdom and that is what we learn at winners. So my fellow winner, congratulations on your spiritual growth. The winners family loves you and Misses you so much.

@@ayodeleayodele6500 yes they teach all that, but that's not all, they also teach cheerful and generous giving. They also teach that tithing is one of the covenant ways of giving and that for your giving to be accepted by God, you have to give out of love. Yes I believe tithing is God's instruction to be kept and one of God's weapons of taking away the devourers. Otherwise, Paul couldn't have mentioned it in Heb 7:8 ...men that die receive tithe..... It works, I have seen it work. Give it an open mind and finally, they teach that giving cheerfully can never take the place of your responsibility of studying the word and practicing the truth. As we study the word, let's not be bothered about known what is evil and what is good instead, let's be bothered about discovering the truth that gives life because what really matters is life eternal. Living under grace does not mean living without the law, it means living with full fulfillment of the entire law of God through Jesus Christ. So you cannot talk about the grace without the law. We won't be living under grace if the law is not there. Therefore, my beloved sister, we were giving the grace because there are laws to fulfill and tithing cheerfully and generously is one of them. Hello everyone, tithing was to ensure that Levities, widows, orphans and strangers did not starve. The Levities did not own land. The Lord was their portion. The tithe was given to the Levites - a blood line. The tithe belongs to their bloodline. Who is a Levite today? Jewish people don't pay tithes because the temple no longer exists. That was the place where they met God. No wonder Jews tend not to listen to Christians, we don't know the book we are supposed to be studying. We are supposed to give especially to the less well off, but I see that is not encouraged in certain Christian circles. Where is the God of the Bible in their midst? What's happening in the church? Is it all about financial gain? Daddy Freeze keeps pointing to those who are financially prosperous and they don't adhere to scriptural principles. Let's get to know the God of the bible. He wants us to know Him personally. He went through everything for that to happen. Bless His wonderful name. He is truly worthy of everyone's praises. 👏👏👏👏💕💕💕 God bless you all in Jesus precious name. 😄😁👋👋

The only command to men (commandment) in Christ is to love. Someone might say, Jesus never spoke about tithes. Expressly he didn't but impliedly he did so much. Tithing is a management principle in the kingdom of God. Jesus spoke a lot about management. We are not obliged to tithe, but to manifest effective management of God's trusted finances to us, we have to tithe. He owns everything, we give, and tithe to prove our stewardship of his finances and things entrusted to us. The more we are faithful in managing with the little, the more he entrust to us.

It's a pity this is not being followed in today's world. Even the agricultural tithe had more beneficiaries than the Levites who couldn't own properties. The strangers, orphans were part of the beneficiaries, today the reformed tithe doctrine is all about glorifying the GO.

As a true child of God, one suppose to know it his duty to honour the Lord with his tithes and offerings but he must do so willfully without being force by any man of God because the bible says God loves a cheerful giver. So, it is not right to be forced by anyone to give your tithe or for you to give your tithe because you want to please any man of God but you must give it to honour the Almighty God. (Hallelujah) The first time, he went to the location, nobody in the church went with him, because they thought he would not return alive. But by daring hell and satan, and with the mercies of God, he returned alive, and triumphed over a thousand demons by the mercies of God! I challenge you to go to any forest in your community, anywhere in Nigeria and turn into a city! Oyedepo has built a world class university that is ranked amongst the best private universities in the world. He built an electricity system that works. There has been no power black out in Canaanland in about 20 years continuously… He built roads, that are still passable after over 20 years, the water systems runs great after 20 years. He has a network of high schools in 14 states and produce more university and high school graduates than some state and local governments. Oyedepo employs about 40,000 people more than some state government. Pay attention to this. I went to Ota, Ogun State about two years ago, and spoke with Okada riders, Marwa, bus drivers, food and drink sellers, recharge card sellers. They were grateful for Bishop Oyedepo. Everybody I spoke with kept saying the same thing: “if not for papa” When the Ota-Idiroko gets flooded and becomes completely unpassable, and federal, state, local government officials would not show up, it was Oyedepo that will bring trucks, caterpillars, tipper lorries, sand, gravels, stone, anything to patch the road, and alleviate the suffering of the people. He has been fixing public roads for over 20 years! The people told me with their own mouth. There is a small taxi stand outside Covenant University gate. The taxi people told me with their own mouths, “if not for papa” our transportation business would have collapsed. I spoke with many people over many days, I did not meet a single person that was not thankful that the church or University was built there. Bishop Sam Adeyemi did not say don't pay tithe out of fear or guilt. He said people should not give out of guilt or fear. He was talking about giving in general. Note: whenever money leaves your hand and you submit it to God, it becomes a seed, either it comes in form of tithe or offering or helping the widows, orphans or the needy, and there is a blessing attached to every giving. A seed will always germinate. In this dispensation of grace, you can pay your tithe as an act of worship to God, not based on how it was under the law, because the law expired after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. You can even give 20% or 50% or 100%. The disciples did not collect tithe.

Even the pastors that are not supporting paying of thithes are Afraid or ashamed of using the scriptures to let people know the truth about tithing. In the book of Hebrews7:5,it says, "The levites who were commanded to take the tithe of the people according to the law."Take note of the word,"according to the law". And the book of Galatians says,we have been redeemed from the curse of the law. The book of Hebrews also says, since the priesthood had been changed from the levitical priest to the priesthood of Jesus Christ, the law also need to be changed.Hebrew7:12. further, Hebrew7:18,19.for on the other hand ,there is an annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness.vs19: For the law made Notting perfect, on the other hand there is bringing in of a new hope. @Doris Agbetsise Respectfully, Jesus taught about praise and worship. He said the life of worship is a focused life characterized by prayer. In the Garden of Gethsemane, he told Peter: “Keep alert and pray. Otherwise temptation will overpower you. For though the spirit is willing enough, the body is weak.” (Mk 14:38, NLT) Jesus also taught that authentic worship flows from a heart filled with love for God. Quoting the prophet Isaiah, he said, “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far away. Their worship is a farce, for they replace God's commands with their own man-made teachings.” (Mk 7:7, NLT) Let me offer three thoughts about Jesus’ teaching on worship: First, Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount is filled with lessons about worship: God blesses worshippers (Matt 5:3-12), Worshippers are salt and light to the world ( Matt 5:13-16), Worshippers must obey God’s commands (Matt 5:17-20), Anger and worship (5:21-26), Thoughts matter (5:27-30), Promises (Matt 5:33-37), Always act like your father in heaven (Matt 5:43-48), Good deeds (6:1), Giving (6:2), Praying (Matt 6:9-13), Forgiveness (Matt 6:14), Fasting (Matt 6:16-18), Priorities (Matt 6:19-21), Money (Matt. 6:24), Worry (Matt. 6:25), Condemning others (Matt 7:1-5), Ask God for good things (Matt 7:7-11), No short cuts (Matt 7:13-14), Watch out for false teachers (Matt 7:15-20), Worship is worthless without obedience (7:21-27). Further, the Lord’s Prayer offers wonderful insight into worship. Often referred to as the Model Prayer, it shows us that not only is prayer an act of worship but the Lord’s prayer also is a prayer of worship, incorporating five themes of worship: “Our Father (Abba) which art in heaven, Hallowed (Hallelujah) be thy name. Thy kingdom come (Maranatha). Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil (Hosanna): For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.” There’s a worship sermon in there! Finally, Jesus taught about worship by the way he lived his life. He set a high standard and exceeded it. He completely fulfilled the will of the Father, facing all the same temptations we face without sin. He chose to worship God rather than giving into temptation. (Luke 4:8) He was baptized. He was obedient to the Father by enduring the cross. (Heb 12:2) He observed the Sabbath and taught in the synagogue.(Mk 6:2) Jesus meditated on Scripture. He sang a hymn.(Mt 26:30) Peter tells us: “This is the kind of life you’ve been invited into, the kind of life Christ lived. He suffered everything that came his way so you would know that it could be done, and also know how to do it, step by step.” (1 Peter 2:21-22) Additional teachings by Christ related to worship: Prayer: Matt 9:13, Matt 9:38, Matt. 12:7, Matt:14:23, Children, Mt 19:13 Love the lord your God, Mt. 22:37 Follow good teaching, Matt 23:6 Love the Lord your God, Mk 11:24, 12:30 Watch out for false teachers, Mk 12:38 Rebukes faking holiness, Lk 11:42 Jesus commands humility, Lk 11:43, Lk 14:10 No one can serve two masters, Lk 16:13 Spirit and truth, Jn 4:20-24 Worshippers keep commandments, Jn 14:15 Christ’s presence is known by those that keep commandments, Jn 14:21 Jesus warns of the consequences for worshipping God on this Earth, Jn 15:19 Love is better than sacrifice, Mk 12:38

They prey on the downtrodden and heartbroken 'send the money and God will bless you/heal you' and so on in genuine hope of being blessed and healed, people give more than they can really afford to do, putting themselves in a more and more difficult or desperate situation, and these men and women bleed them dry, all with no accountability.

I am with Rev Chris as he said that giving of tithe is a result of God's blessing because that is how Abraham gave ten percent to Melchizedek. And I'm with the other pastors that say nobody is cursed for not giving tithe. But what I would love to ask Rev Chris if I get the chance to meet him is; does tithing still apply to Christians? Because even in the laws by Moses, tithing was not that emphasized how much less for Christians that live after the new testament.

I have NEVER heard Bishop Oyedepo say that anyone who doesn’t tithe is under a curse. In fact, Bishop Oyedepo ALWAYS says that nobody can ever manipulate him to give offering or tithe Bishop Oyedepo’s claims for his prosperity has been by revelation from the Lord…& he ONLY tells us the the source of his blessings, as the Lord revealed to him in 1984. Please, try to listen to what Bishop Oyedepo said about how he became prosperous…& how come he has NEVER had to beg, borrow or apply for loan from any person(living or dead) or from any financial institution or organisation He asked God Almighty that he wants to prosper…& for this he went into 3 days of prayers & fasting….& he took with him books from Kenneth & Gloria Copland and the Bible. After 3 days, the Lord told Bishop Oyedepo that His prosperity plan doesn’t answer to praying & fasting but to the law of sowing & reaping…& that Bishop Oyedepo should give tithes and offerings…& practice Kingdom Advancement Endeavours, according to the Order of Matthew 6:33, in righteousness. So Bishop Oyedepo NEVER forces anyone to give…& I have NEVER heard him say anyone who doesn’t give is under any form of curse; he simply tells US what God Almighty revealed to him over 38 years ago which has been prospering him. So it’s up to everyone to adopt the same things Bishop Oyedepo is doing, as was revealed to him by God Almighty. I don’t disagree with Pastor Adeyemi or/& Bishop Okonkwo at all….& I don’t see how what Bishop Oyedepo said contradicts with what these other men of God said because, as I said, I have NEVER heard Bishop Oyedepo say that anybody who doesn’t tithe is under any form of curse. He simply emphasises what has worked for him since 1984, as was revealed to him by God Almighty…& he tells whoever wants to prosper as him(without begging & borrowing) ….& I’m sure you are aware of all manner of prosperity, especially in the ways of the world 🌍 The type of prosperity we hear at the Living Faith Church(aka Winners Chapel) is God’s blessings that comes without sorrows By the way, are you aware that Bishop Oyedepo goes out on soul winning regularly? Are you aware that his soul winning team have won over 100,000 souls to Christ this year. Are you aware of the amount of money he spends on soul winning alone? Are you aware that Bishop Oyedepo’s team ONLY win souls of mostly destitutes, those who are homeless and jobless(mostly those who are desperate for help? Bishop Oyedepo doesn’t bother with the ‘high & mighty in society because his is The Liberation Mandate, to rescue those who are in the dungeons of life since 1981… ….& these are some of the reasons the good Lord is blessing Bishop Oyedepo; these are his secrets

What amazes me is how rather than learn from each other as non knows all of God, we should be learning from each other. Apostle Joshua Selman is big on this. Christianity is based on love. Love covers a multitude of sin. That doesn't mean we primarily pray for one another in love not tear each other down. You can call out the wrong in love. We only condemn when sin is becoming rooted, a lifestyle in a professed Christians life.

Well my brothers and sisters I want to thank u all. Thank u George. The point I will like to drop is that. This tithing all are practicing is really something totally different. Well to my view tithing or giving has nothing with giving God money. No one can give God anything. Yet he said 10% is mine. It's a princess. A pure management principle. For eg u own 10 oranges, 10% of that, God says keep that aside for me. 3 clothes 10% is for him. So if this is a principle and someone chooses not to obey, God said I can't trust that person. Well in God view, he said he who is faithful over little , I will trust him with much. But in Nigeria we to whom much is given much is expected. The mindset is different. Remember to give or not to give is Ur choice. The Bible never said u must give it to Ur priest or pastor ( I stand to be corrected) . Thank you all

ALL SHOULD READ THIS: READ HEBREWS 7:1-28 - IF MELCHISELDEC RECEIVES TITHE AND WE ARE PRIESTS IN CHRIST ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHISELDEC, SHOULD TODAY PASTORS RECEIVE TITHE OR NOT? IF YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN, WHY ARE YOU DEBATING ABOUT GOD'S INSTRUCTIONS CONCERNING YOUR OWN WELFARE. IF GOD SAYS, BRING YE ALL THE TITHES IN MALACHI 3:10, HAS HE CHANGED HIS MIND? WHY ARE SOME PASTORS CHANGING THEIR MIND ABOUT GOD'S INSTRUCTIONS, AND CALL IT THE GOSPEL OF GRACE. DOES GRACE TEACHES US TO BE DISOBEDIENT TO GOD'S INSTRUCTIONS. SHOW ME WHERE GOD CHANGED HIS MIND ABOUT TITHING? HAVE WE WONDERED WHY ABRAHAM GAVE TITHES? WHO ASKED HIM TO TITHE? WHY DID GOD SEND MELCHISELDEC TO RECEIVE TITHE FROM ABRAHAM? HAVE WE TAKEN TIME TO ASK GOD, WHY DID YOU SEND MELCHISELDEC TO RECEIVE TITHE FROM ABRAHAM? WHY IS ABRAHAM CALLED THE FATHER OF ALL WHO BELIEVE IN GOD THROUGH FAITH? GALATIANS 3:7- (GALATIANS 3:1-29 FULL SCRIPTURE). IF CHRISTIANS ARE CHILDREN OF ABRAHAM, WHY ARE YOU FIGHTING AGAINST THE WORKS OF ABRAHAM YOUR FATHER WHICH HE DID THROUGH FAITH - JOHN 8:39. STUDY THE LIFE OF ABRAHAM, YOU WILL KNOW WHY HE IS THE FATHER OF FAITH. OUR FATHER ABRAHAM DID NOT REJECT PAYING OF TITHE, WHY ARE YOU FIGHTING WHAT YOU FATHER DID WHICH WAS PART OF HIS WORKS OF FAITH? IT IS SIMPLE, IF YOU ARE ABRAHAMS CHILDREN IN CHRIST JESUS, YOU WILL DO THE WORKS OF ABRAHAM. STUDY THE BIBLE AND STOP SATANIC DOCTRINES AND PREACHINGS. WE ARE AWARE THESE THINGS WILL KEEP COMING. WE ARE READY TO DEFEND THE WORD OF GOD.
