Would you use this in addition to a wheeled luggage? Or by itself? I’d like to help you find something! If you wanted a smaller personal item in addition to carry on luggage, they have straps that can attach it to your carry on luggage, for easier carrying within the airport.

@@ItsTheKellys Well, as a recovering extreme over-packer, my goal is to be able to pack for at least a long weekend in just the under-seater (for convenience but also to not have to stress about overhead space). I've managed to work my way down to carry-on only for most trips - a Motherload 21 or Delsey 21 hardside❤. I have a trip in Sept on Jet Blue, so this is as good a time as any to go cold turkey. I've look at dozens of videos & bags; the closest to 17x13x8 are: High Sierra Endeavor & London Fog Yorkshire or Newcastle. Probably TMI 😆

I will be flying with spirit and frontier- have you ever used the mother lode jr as your personal item ? I don’t plan on using the expander portion .

@@rebeccabanuelos6190 the junior is *technically* 1.5 inches too tall and 1 inch too deep for spirit and frontier’s personal items. If it wasn’t packed to capacity, I think you could get away with it, because it is squishable into a bin… Have I tried? No. However, they are so weird and strict, I wouldn’t want you to have to pay a fee at the gate!

Susan, when you take your JR- is that your free personal item your stuffing under the seats- like for spirit or frontier? Also when you say you stuff it full- is that expanded or not expanded? And if it’s full and expanded- is that why you struggle to fit it under the seats or is that just non expanded but full? I’m asking since I leave next month on spirit and I’m going to use my new JR for peeps and item under the seat. I don’t want to over pack it so that it fails the free personally item but also want to maximize its space. So if your uncompressed and stuffed yet still fitting it under the seat then I’m super impressed!!! That’s like 45g when expanded I believe I’ve read. It’s like 40L when non expanded aka compressed.

@@ashleehoward47 I don't expand it, but just pack it full. The issue with fitting it under seats happens when I'm in an aisle seat (I swear there's less room under those!). Also when there's so little leg room that even getting it between my seat and the seatback in front of me is difficult, let alone getting it from there to underneath the seat. I hope that makes sense! I've never flown Spirit, so I can't speak to the space in their planes.

seriously thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing this. I just bought the beis carry-on luggage and am flying Delta first class in 2 weeks with my dog inside the sleepypod air & Beis carry-on. Beis carry-on dimensions exceed Delta carry-on dimensions so I was quite worried about this but you re-assured me it would fit.

You’re welcome! I’ve used mine on delta a lot. The only time that I don’t fly with it is international, because some times it’s *actually* Air France or KLM, a delta partner, and they are more strict

This was SO HELPFUL! I have to fly Air Canada a lot and their sizing is on the small size compared to other airlines. There's nothing worse than getting to the airport to find out your carry on is too big!

Cool experiment, I'm sure some of the people at the airport thought you were crazy. As far as checking a bag - we are scuba divers. We would pack one large suitcase with gear like BCs, fins, wetsuits. A medium sized bag with the rest of the gear that didn't fit and clothes. Our carry ons were for hubby's underwater video camera and equipment for him. Our regulators, dive computers and my camera and underwater housing and masks for me. Then his personal item was his laptop so he could work and download pictures and video. My personal item would carry all the snacks, passports, extra sets of bi-focal lenses for my mask and other things one needs. I would scatter a change of clothes and one bathing suit each amongst our carry ons in case the checked luggage got delayed (which happened more than once). Since we had our regs and dive computers with us we could make due with rental equipment until ours arrived. We preferred to have our own equipment instead of relying on rentals that you don't know if or when it's been serviced.

At the end of the day dimensions depend on the aircraft type, and weight is used to calculate fuel requirements, which again depends on aircraft type. The limit of 20kg on hold baggage is mainly to prevent the baggage handlers from straining themselves.

For anyone trying to use the Beis mini weekender as a personal bag on budget airlines, my trick is to remove the bottom pocket that you can detach. It usually ALLOWS works for personal then. Agreed, I don't understand people who check in bags. ESPECIALLY these days. Great video.

Awesome! Just remember, any airline that is based in the US usually works with an international partner and their luggage restrictions will be different (such as Delta being AirFrance or KLM, or United being Lufthansa)

No need to be nervous. Just comply with their requirements. It’s all explained on their website so there’s no need to guess. That’s the only airline I’ve flown that also weighed my carryon. It’s good for you to figure this one out and learn what to bring. Then it will be easier for you to go to Europe or Asia as all their airlines have smaller requirements that USA. Have a great trip.

This video was SO HELPFUL! We are planning a 5 day trip, traveling American Airlines and are trying to avoid checking a bag. I was on the beis site looking at the small carry on and the mini weekender to use as my personal item. When checking the dimensions for the carry on vs. American Airlines carry on restrictions, the carry on bag is technically too big and the same goes for the mini weekender being too big for their personal item restrictions. Happy to see they fit! I haven't ordered them yet though because in all honestly I'm still worried they will not be accepted since they are technically bigger!

I was using a smaller carry-on roller for NY as of 2 weeks ago, and bought a Beis carry-on roller simply cause I want a bit more packing space for the winter when I’m back in NY 😂 I watched this video to determine it’ll be fine for Air Canada as I’m based in Vancouver. I have a soft sided carry-on roller the exact same size as Beis, but when packed to the max…. we get asked to check it in. The Beis should make it visually less bulky 😅

Duffels would probably just depend on how full they are, since they could be squishy if not filled to capacity! I think duffels are safer sometimes!

Very informative video. Thanks for the effort you made in the making of this video. My issue though is why it is necessary to throw shade on people who check their luggage. Life doesn't always fall into nice Black and White patterns. At times on longer trips larger luggage is a necessity, especially. for single travelers

I don’t think that I’m throwing shade, but my “travel often, pack well” motto on the channel is for carry on, because it’s what I’m good at and can help with the most. People have always asked me how I pack light and carry on only, so that’s why I started this channel. I stopped checking bags when my luggage would always come back damaged or lost, so carry on is what I believe in, and where I am most helpful. Even for long trips/multiple weather trips :)

Yes, but I always tell people to proceed with caution when it comes to frontier. They have been making up their own rules lately and if somethings so much as a strap falls out over the size are, they are going to make you pay. Size wise, it’s perfect. Frontier bully wise… Who the heck knows anymore

You’re welcome. Just make sure that it’s the actual airline that you’re flying, and not a code sharing partner. International partners are a lot more strict.

The BÉIS carryon hard sided luggage is at 4:54 for Air Canada. It flies by quickly but DOES look like it fits. Yay!!!

I’m binging so much on your channel. I way overpacked on my first trip with my toddler to WDW and didn’t use half of it! A family of 5 (grandparents, husband, me, & daughter ) has 5 checkin bags, 4 personal item bags, 3 carry ons plus car seat and plus a stroller. It was overwhelming and difficult. My goal is to basically carry on and personal item as much as possible. I’ll still have to check in her car seat but our stroller fits in the overhead bin since it’s a compact folding one. We may check in 1 luggage that requires her specific snacks due to allergies and things like that but I was overwhelmed with all we brought, I’m also the type to wash all the clothes when we get back even if I washed it at the location so that laundry was overhelming. Each checkin bag weighed 70 lbs. it was ok since first class is allowed two 70lb check ins… thought it was good but shouldn’t have maxed it out😅

I think you can totally get away with one carry on/personal item each, and if you have to check a bag for snacks, you can, but as long as it’s not liquid, I would just do a full size carry on for your toddler too, since his/her clothes barely take up any space! If all of the carry on bags are spinners and all of the personal items have trolleys, I think you could do this much easier next time!
