Helen of Troy owns Revlon, Hot Tools, Bed Head, and Drybar. So it makes sense that they would be basically the same. I have been researching for months/year which one to get. I have fine hair with lots of baby hairs and flyaways. I have heard that the titanium plating on the hot tools is better at smoothing. But from all my research, it seems you can't really go wrong with any of them. Still haven't decided which one I personally will buy but have been leaning a lot toward the hot tools black gold. My concern is now it comes with detachable heads (I guess so you can change between small and large) and I am skeptical if it will be as good or if getting the different size heads will matter. I can still find the non-detachable one but it's more expensive and harder to find.

I’m 73 with fine gray hair. Hot tools is fabulous! My hair shines… is smooth and undamaged (I always use heat protectant spray).

The hot tools uses tourmaline technology which is suppose to be better for your hair as far as heat. Also suppose to make hair silkier and shiner! Style is suppose to last longer! The hot tools also has a 7 year limited warranty for the 24 K gold model.

I had the revlon one too and it died the same way. It stayed alive while using it on medium but the *one* time I used high it broke down. I have 4c hair btw, revlon is not for us lol.

4c texture here, and I don't really straighten my hair and I normally wear braids etc so this looks greattttttt for me! The last time I braided my hair I did tiny long box braids on wet hair and it too me a whopping 2 weeks! That's a record for me lol last time it took 5 days. I think with this blow dryer I can get it done in 1-3 days fingers crossed! I've done it before in 1 day so I know its possible, but its the epitome of exhausting (so worth it though) As for a straight style like I said I don't really wear them so I'd maybe do a perm rod, bantu knot out, twist out type of thing and if I wanted straight roots I do have an electric hot comb.

I have the revlon one, my hair is curly and it works amazing, I bought it when my hair was longer and I didn’t have to use a flat iron much. Now my hair is a bob and I just use the flat iron around my face, the rest of the hair is typically straight and smooth. I do use a heat protector before I start. Mine just broke though, I’ve had it at least 5 years if not longer I can’t remember, so I was wondering if other brands were better or worth the higher price tag. So nice to see a comparison.

Only reason I want one is for protective styling. I got a dyson blow dryer, when my hot tools blow dryer of 15 years died 2 years ago. But I want a brush attachment now, that dyson doesn't offer on the dryer I have. I'd have to buy a whole other tool! So gotta try Hot Tools

I've blow dried my curly hair 2 times and both times it came out looking like a treasure troll. I tried it with dryer and round brush and got the brush stuck trying to hold everything. I am wanting to try the hot tools, but is it doable for someone who is hair..... illiterate? Any tips for how to do it without massive frizz?

Look for anti humidity smoothing products for before you blow dry. A great example would be Kerastase Keratin Thermique. You can pair that with the shampoo and conditioner. It will help your hair stay smooth after blow drying. Let us know if you have more questions.

It’s true! Any thoughts about how you would describe it? I’m open to suggestions and expanding the conversation. As a white female, I never want to make a black female feel uncomfortable with how I describe the differences in hair types. There are differences and they should be celebrated. And I think the narrative of hair “texture” has been defined by white people and I believe having accurate vocabulary that honors both and doesn’t discriminate would be helpful in building a more diverse hair culture! 🧡 thanks for opening the conversation 😊
