@@POVTours Thanks, I popped into Pasteis de Belem yesterday lunchtime and had a couple with a coffee. Very nice indeed. I noticed that they have boarded up a part of the park opposite the monastery that contained the fountains. There is a picture outside showing a remodelling plan of the gardens, which looked great.... work is underway...

Hello! 😄 Perfect, please don't forget to pay homage to my holy birthplace, it's actually a crime in Portugal not to do so (5 to 10 years in prison for blasphemy). Still early forecasts, but looks like the weather might change a little bit next week, I sure hope you don't bring the British weather with you... 😐 Yes, comfy shoes are a must, the sidewalks look pretty with all the black & white patterns (the ones that do have patterns), but they are not the most comfortable ever for long walks.

Amen, alleluia! Do it in the Jerónimos Monastery, next to the tombs of some of the greatest Portuguese heroes 😇😇 The garden in front of the Monastery was my childhood playground, so it's only fitting. Yesterday we should have had rain here, and yet it was another sunny day, so let's stay positive... As long as you don't wear Crocs (also a serious crime in my book), Skechers are a good option 😄😄 Real Lisbon things... hmmm anything specific you're looking for? Sightseeing, attractions, etc? Everyone is looking for the "real Lisbon", so the crowds end up at the same places thus turning "real Lisbon" into "touristic Lisbon". The "miradouros" (viewpoints) are a must, there's no better way to fall in love with Lisbon than to watch the sunset in one of these. Some are very well known (São Pedro de Alcântara, close to Principe Real, or Portas do Sol near Alfama), others are almost a secret (*cough* Monte Agudo, near something something... 🤐🤐). The popular ones are beautiful, so crowds or no crowds viewpoints should be on your list. I'm not vegetarian, but almost (95%) 😄 the problem is that I can't stop eating fish haha! Did you know that Portuguese have some of the highest consumption of fish per capita in the world? The fish don't consider me their friend, so I eat them 😬 A few restaurants I highly recommend: O Botanista (near Cais do Sodré), Jardim dos Sentidos (near Principe Real), daTerra Bairro Alto (Bairro Alto, near São Pedro de Alcantara viewpoint). Fortunately there are a lot of options these days, it's not like 10-15 years ago with very few veggie restaurants. Here's something to avoid, to not go to the first restaurant on the right, at Rua (street) das Portas de Santo Antão, coming from Rossio square. It's not a vegan/vegetarian restaurant, and I won't go into details here, but avoid them like the plague (inset "police" emoji). Oops, didn't mean to write a whole book with this comment 😄😄

Now that August is over, the locals are coming back from their holidays elsewhere and there are fewer tourists, Lisbon as a whole is more "real", I guess. Although downtown Lisbon since the Middle Ages has been a diverse melting pot of different cultures and nationalities, so tourists / expats are part of real Lisbon too. 😄 Regarding places to live that have a genuine vibe I'll start with the areas to avoid, for all kinds of reasons: basically the Pombaline downtown, everything from Avenida da Liberdade to Praça do Comério. The whole of Bairro Alto. The main squares and streets in Alfama, the ones with the Tram 28 (side streets are fine). Mouraria and the area around Martim Moniz Square. Similar to Mouraria, Intendente and Anjos, in the metro green line. These places are being gentrified and renovated, but for now I wouldn't consider them. Arroios is a maybe, some streets are great, others have the negatives of Anjos. Places to visit and consider: the Graça neighborhood. Yes, some squares are as touristy as Alfama, but those are exceptions. Graça is lovely and still feels very local. Campo de Ourique, Estrela and São Bento. My Tram 28 video shows a bit of each area. Those 3 are mostly residential neighborhoods, not as old as Alfama, but not as modern as Saldanha, for example. The Alvalade neighborhood, one I haven't mentioned in any videos yet, but a very valid option! Can't believe I've been forgetting this one, ooops 😬 Mostly mid-20th century buildings, not touristy, not corporate, quiet area but with plenty of life, shops, people, metro station, etc. Check Avenida da Igreja and its side streets. Avenida de Roma is the neighborhood's main avenue, very busy on weekdays, but check its side streets for a homely vibe. Picoas, Saldanha, Campo Pequeno, Entrecampos, all in the yellow line, all maybes. The main avenues are not homely at all, the side streets can be, but still less than Alvalade, Campo de Ourique, Estrela, etc.

E, neste vídeo, eu fiz um passeio pela rua do meu sobrenome! Muito interessante e com construções belíssimas! Quanto ao museu do coche, na minha opinião o prédio atual é um tanto ou quanto moderno demais para o que ele alberga. Eu sou bastante conservadora nesses aspectos. Quanto ao Monastério, eu gostaria muito de um vídeo gravado lá dentro! Mas me disseram que não é permitido filmar. É verdade? Um pequena dúvida (eu pergunto muito, me desculpe!): a construção do Planetário chegou tão próxima ao Monastério por qual razão? Ficou tão estranho!... Em criança eu morei na zona da Junqueira! 😄Sim, eu pessoalmente não gosto nada do novo edifício do Museu dos Coches, só visitei uma vez e fiquei muito desiludido, o antigo era tão bonito (mas pequeno). Penso que a ideia do arquiteto foi criar um grande contraste, para assim realçar mais a beleza dos coches... Eu não tenho a certeza se é permitido filmar no Mosterio, penso que com uma câmara pequena, como a minha, não haverá muito problema, espero eu 😐 A ideia geral para Belém era ser o centro museológico de Lisboa, onde se poderia conhecer a história de Portugal e do mundo desde a pré-história até à era espacial, daí o Planetário estar ali inserido. Corrijam-me se eu estiver enganado. Parece-me que a região de Belém, em Lisboa, é a melhor conservada, as demais me pareceram muito decadentes. A impressão que fica, é que o dinheiro farto e fácil da UE foi gasto em futilidades e não nas infraestruturas do país.

Então vou corrgir mesmo, pois está errado Marcel 🙂 Belém está bem conservada porque é um pólo turístico, da mesma forma que os locais mais turísticos de qualquer cidade do mundo têm melhor conservação do que as zonas "normais", residenciais, etc. É um investimento que dá retorno. Outra razão é que grande parte do edificado é do Estado e protegido pela Direção Geral do Património Cultural, portanto os sucessivos Governos não só têm todo o interesse em manter em bom estado, como são obrigados a tal. Cenário diferente de edificado privado em que o proprietário pode não ter meios ou interesse para manter em bom estado. Comparar as duas situações não faz sentido. Em relação a dinheiro "farto e fácil da UE", para responder com toda a informação precisava de muito mais espaço, mas vou só rebater o "fácil" pois é um erro comum, por parte de quem não conhece a situação a fundo. Portugal para receber fundos da UE é obrigado a uma série de contrapartidas. Algumas delas, que quase dizimaram por completo indústrias e áreas de negócio no país. Não é dinheiro fácil, é dinheiro obtido como compensação pela abertura total do mercado a produtos estrangeiros, sem qualquer tarifa de importação. Deixo aqui a pergunta: porque é que o Brasil tem tarifas de importação tão altas em quase todos os produtos? O que aconteceria aos produtores internos e economia global do país se essas tarifas passasem a 0, como são em Portugal? A melhor forma de provar que esse dinheiro não é fácil, é que um dos países que mais beneficia com o mercado único europeu (e o sistema de fundos de coesão da UE) é a Alemanha, o país que mais paga para esse fundo de coesão. Paga inicialmente, mas depois vai buscar muito mais de retorno ao exportar os seus produtos para os países que são obrigados a os receber. Por isso é que a Alemanha sempre foi o grande defensor da entrada de mais países na UE, como os países do leste da Europa. Para além disso tudo, não há dinheiro da UE em Belém, esse dinheiro encontra-o, por exemplo, na rede de auto-estradas do país, que é das mais desenvolvidas do mundo. Ou na extensão das redes de metro de Lisboa e Porto (nem sequer há metro em Belém). Amigo que ignorância a sua, “dinheiro farto e fácil da união Europeia“??!! Você vive em que mundo? Em Marte? Você acha que alguém dá algo a Alguém sem ter um bom retorno? Você imagina o que Portugal tem que dar a união europeia, para ela ter que indemnizar suas percas? Portugal antes da união Europeia já vivia, era é governado por um regime fascista "Salazar" que não desenvolvia o país, para além de gastar milhões com a guerra com Angola Moçambique Guiné Cabo Verde, que queriam a independência. Manter a guerra com essas ex colónias, foi um peso enorme na sua economia, no entanto Portugal teve muitos anos de um brutal gasto, que só acabou com o 25 de Abril de 1974. No entanto se fez a união europeia Portugal como é europeu entrou também, mas teve que negociar com a união europeia, Portugal tem 900 kms de costa teve que entregar a cota de pesca quase toda a união europeia podíamos ser agora uns de maiores fornecedores de peixe para todo o mundo, a nossas águas marítimas são ricas em peixe, tivemos que acabar praticamente com a nossa agricultura são eles que põem dispõem, temos também restrições na indústria etc, etc.etc E você diz que eles dão dinheiro fácil, mas você pensa que eles estão a sustentar Portugal? Sua ignorância dá dó. Há economistas que dizem que neste momento Portugal lucrava mais se não estivesse debaixo da alçada da União Europeia!! Portugal para receber um chourico da união, tem que dar um porco amigo. Na União Europeia não cai os euros do céu, nem eles são uma união de benificiencia de ajuda ao próximo. Experimentem fazer a união Sul Americana e depois vejam se à brindes para alguém. Comentário seu é bobinho !! 🤔
