It really makes a difference in my motivation to continue with this project when I read such positive comments! 😊 I always try to showcase interesting places, but among all of those, Óbidos should be a priority for tourists (same as Sintra, for example), especially if time is limited. Expect more interesting towns soon, now that I'm filming further away from Lisbon, there are lots of hidden gems in central and northern Portugal (and a few in the south as well).

100 % agree with Sean Burns ! I visited this lovely town approximately 3 weeks ago. My only regret was not buying a framed, blue and white (4 tiles) street scene, only 60 or 70 euros, I was afraid I’d break it before returning to US.

He estado y me enamoré ese lugar y es cierto es mejor ir en momentos o días de la semana que no hay tanta gente, porque es tal su belleza que es mejor apreciarla sin mucha gente alrededor(que egoísta).Recorrí mas que nada la calle principal, no entré al castillo propiamente preo no importa y me traje de recuerdo los números de mi casa en azulejos, asi cuando entro en mi casa en Argentina tengo el recuerdo de tan bello lugar.Lo trasplanté a mi ciudad.

Olá Maria! 😊 Sim, Lisboa tem um historial de terramotos graves de 200 em 200 anos (mais ou menos). Os principais foram em 1356, 1531 (e não 1535 como erradamente coloquei no vídeo ☹️), o famoso de 1755 e depois há o de 1969, que não sei se incluo na lista ou não. Os seus efeitos foram mais sentidos na região sul do país, no Algarve. Sim, essa carinha significa abraço 🤗😄

I've been to Óbidos. We spent a night in the castle before heading to Fatima. It was Valentine's Day (for us, not the Portuguese). All the trappings of a palace (castle) made our stay extra-romantic. Affordable, informative, beautiful, very much recommended.

Olá & Obrigada!! I've been watching all your videos and this is my very favourite... I love Óbidos!! I spent a lot of time there when I was living in Atouguia (Peniche). My Portuguese teacher teaches just outside the castle walls, the building with the red door, seen at 10:32. It truly is a magical town... I arrived this time of year and began my lessons at the beginning of December and Vila Natal was all set up... the shops were filled with Christmas decorations and gifts. I drank a lot of hot chocolate at those Ginja shops and indulged in one or two with Ginja mixed in. I love that you walked around the side streets... It's so beautiful outside the castle on the Western side... catching it at Sunset is incredible... I rarely saw the big crowds in the 3 months I was there... winter is a great time to go and you are so right about going on weekdays... especially when there is no festiva, it could be quite quiet. I must thank you for this. I miss Portugal and cannot wait to get back there, for good! Cheers and I cannot wait to see your next video!! :)

Very enjoyable and filled with useful tips. The archaeology and history of the place is adequately covered. Perhaps there is a way to store safely all your excellent videos, such that they will remain accessible in spite of the periodic changes in IT that sometimes render obsolete older recordings. I have seen several videos about retirement in Portugal, made for English speaking pensioners. Perhaps you can visit places known to attract expats and give your subscribers and others your opinion about the pertinent issues. I hear many Italian pensioners move to Portugal, attracted by an income tax lower than in Italy, the climate and the cultural affinities.

Thank you Daniel! 😀 I do keep copies of all my videos, in their original uncompressed resolution and quality, what you see on KZbin is not how they actually look. The original footage is much better. But yes, safe storage is an ongoing worry... I've been asked about that sort of content, more focused on day-to-day issues, taxes, quality of life, etc. It's something I'm considering, especially when I eventually run out of historical content to show (it won't happen for a while 😉).

Não, essa povoação com mais de 2000 anos era dos celtas, e foi depois sendo destruída e reconstruída pelos sucessivos povos que invadiram a área. Romanos, Visigodos, Mouros... O que existe atualmente é o resultado dessa evolução 😊

Em principio, apenas deveria surgir uma legenda em inglês, a original do vídeo, que não dá para retirar. O foco é em inglês porque a grande maioria das pessoas que visitam o canal desde o início falam inglês. 😊 Para além dessa legenda, há a possibilidade de adicionar uma nova, podendo escolher o idioma (que também pode ser novamente em inglês, por culpa do KZbin), fazendo com que apareçam duas, uma por cima da outra. Se aparecem legendas em inglês em duplicado, é porque ou a sua conta de KZbin está configurada para inglês ser a lingua principal ou houve algum erro do KZbin. Essas segundas legendas eu não controlo, é tudo oferecido pelo KZbin. Para alterar a lingua, tem de ir às definições, deve ter aí um pequeno ícone no vídeo com o formato de uma rodinha, clicando pode alterar para Português. 😊 Se precisar de ajuda é só mandar nova mensagem.

Óbidos é daqueles locais imperdíveis em Portugal! Não pode mesmo deixar de conhecer 😊 É o nosso melhor exemplo de uma antiga povoação medieval, que sobreviveu até ao século 21. Em relação ao sol, normalmente eu tento programar as filmagens para os dias de sol, mas nem tem sido necessário programar muito, pois aqui pelo sul e centro de Portugal está sol a maior parte do ano, incluindo inverno! Estamos até tendo um problema de seca em grande parte do território este ano, tem chovido muito pouco... Felizmente esta semana parece que vamos ter um pouco de chuva.

Boa tarde Eduardo! 😀Aldeia é menor, há vilas em Portugal com dezenas de milhares de habitantes (por escolha própria não passam a cidades). As aldeias têm algumas centenas no máximo, mas podem ter muito menos. Muitas casas não têm garagem, especialmente nos prédios mais antigos é raro. Casas individuais muitas têm, mas não em povoações mais densas (como Óbidos), aí não há espaço. Sim, os carros ficam nas ruas na maior parte dos casos. Há roubo de carros, mas é pouco frequente hoje em dia. 😊 Não é fácil roubar os carros modernos.

Sim, as vilas costumam ter mercados e feiras que vendem esses produtos todos. E muitas aldeias também. A vila é mais estrutura e organizada que aldeia, é como uma pequena cidade. E nalguns casos, como Sintra, Cascais ou Oeiras, é mesmo uma grande cidade, mas por razões de turismo mantêm a classificação de vila. Vila em Portugal tem uma conotação de local histórico, acolhedor, etc, enquanto cidade é mais moderno, massificado. Por isso há locais com muita história e muito turismo que preferem continuar a ser conhecidos como vilas. 😀
