Belarus protesters constructed a barricade in a Minsk street on Monday night as clashes continued with security forces for the second night after the re-election of President Alexander Lukashenko. The barricade was later destroyed by a police riot truck.
At least one person died as Belarusian police clashed with protesters after the opposition accused Lukashenko of rigging his re-election victory amid a chorus of criticism from Western leaders.
Helmeted police fired tear gas, rubber bullets and stun grenades and used batons to disperse thousands of people. Protesters set up barricades in several areas and threw Molotov cocktails.
Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanouskaya left the country for Lithuania, its foreign minister said on Tuesday, following the contested re-election of Lukashenko.

@@Ziglion who are you calling a clown? You are ignorant of the situation over there. No way did 80% vote for him!! The elections in Belarus are rigged! First remark: What you see in the video was just the first night. Currently we don't have violent protests in the country. People just stand in the streets to show solidarity, and workers go on strikes. It is very sad to see peaceful crowds overwhelmed by flashbangs, rubber bullets and beatings. You talk about police switching sides. This is starting to happen, actually, but that is not so simple. There are two kinds of police force deployed to fight protests. There are: 1) Army, Special Force, regular police 2) Special anti-protester troops and president's secret service The first kind was forced to conduct arrests, because otherwise they faced long terms in jail. But now that they have seen that the whole country is protesting, they start to massively decide to seize force. Some police captains are even making videos of pledge to the nation, recalling their vows to protect community, not president. Chiefs of police in some cities even promise to take no action against peaceful protesters unless there are Lukashenko's provokers from the crowd (and there are. They try to provoke violence, but the people know about them and don't comply) The second kind are just well-fed animals. They were brainwashed their whole lives. They are paid more per day than an average Belarusian earns per month. These are the most violent people in the country unleashed to martyr anyone they want. They like to gather in groups of like 5 people and hunt some lonely passerby to beat him. They also crush cars and make chaos so that people are afraid to leave their houses. These are the real criminals here, and there is serious doubt that they will switch sides. But there are only a handful of them (1500-2000 animals at most) which is really reassuring. It also helps that state tv presenters started to leave their jobs. Internet is not spread in the countryside or among the elderly. So these kinds of people were constantly brainwashed. But these presenters couldn't stand telling such outright lies and started to leave. This is also very reassuring. We also have factory-workers, medical professionals, various non-essential shops going on strike. Protests help people see that they are not alone in their desire to get rid of the regime, and people start strikes or leave government-related jobs. If this situation continues, soon everyone in Belarus will just stop working and go stand in the streets until Lukashenko goes.
