Counter-terrorism exercise in Minsk metro

In anticipation of the 2014 world ice hockey championship a large-scale counter-terrorism exercise took place in the Minsk metro. Taking part in the exercise were representatives of the State Security Committee, the Emergencies Ministry, the Investigation Committee of Belarus, the security service of the Minsk metro enterprise, and the Minsk metro police division of the Interior Ministry. In conditions as close to real ones as possible officers of the law-enforcement agencies and Minsk metro personnel practiced the joint response to a terrorism threat. According to the scenario, a terrorist armed with an improvised explosive device penetrated a metro station during working hours and presented his demands after locking himself up in the engine driver's cabin.
