That's Gjeilo himself shaking hands with the conductor at the very end.

Rehearsing this incredible piece for a performance in April. Truly one of the most beautiful and moving recent choral works. This particular performance is stunning.

Ugh, so that was 2020! :( I assume your performance was cancelled, did you get a chance to do it again? Or will you? My choir was supposed to be performing this in May of 2020 and we are finally actually performing it May of this year, 2022! Such a gorgeous piece!

I commented the same on Ola Gjiello's copy of this same recording, but just after 10:00, the sight of a couple of singers checking in with each other, obviously transported by this magnificent moment in a spectacular work, just lifts me right up. As a chorister learning this piece for a May performance, I share their joy at making beautiful music.

This magnificient performance captivated me from the very first beginning until the end. It is amazing how a (certailly qualified) group of musicians can make such heavenly music. Stunning! Thank you for performing this so beautiful!

I'll be singing it with the Bergische Symphoniker choir on 10.12.24 in St. Josef in Solingen and on 11.12.24 in the Lutherkirche Remscheid. So if you haven't heard it live yet, you can experience it here alongside Rutter's Magnificat!

You are very good and Gjeilo is a truly genius! My choir sang "The Rose" and "Days of Beauty" with new arrangements, both adapting for mixed choir, with male and female voices and making spectacular videos! We were able to reach the same Gjeilo who was thrilled. Write this in the search: you will surely like them! Corale Novarmonia - Days of Beauty (O. Gjeilo) SATB Choir Corale Novarmonia - The Rose (O. Gjeilo)

A strong, bright performance. But it begs comparison with Bel Canto's 2014 performance under the direction of Maestro Dambrauskas. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3-7domXmM58ga8 This performance under the direction of Maestro Kaveckas benefited from the additional voices of Sofia Vokalensemble, which added to the strength, especially in the long overlapping sections of The Spheres. The additional voices helped significantly in these sections. But I feel there were two significant areas where it could have been better. Much better: 1) Phrasing. This piece is all about phrasing. The director must allow the choir to arch thru a phrase from beginning to end. I felt Maestro Kaveckas was quite good (with some exceptions see next comment) at starting and stopping, but in between, it felt more that he was marking time for the orchestra and just letting the choir do its thing. That's not enough. This is a choral piece. It's all about the choral phrase from beginning to end. 2) Strong choral entrances in the middle. In every section where the orchestra was going and the choir had an entrance, the choral entrance was weak. Especially the two male entrances. These should be explosive and sudden. Again, Maestro Kaveckas was marking time with the orchestra. He should have unleashed the voices at these entrances. His head was more down than up. This will show my prejudice for conducting style. I felt that Maestro Kaveckas was too often "windmill" conducting. Huge circular arm movements. That's my signal that a conductor is overconducting. I find the best performances are when the conductor is holding back the ensemble, not wildly gesturing at it. Finally, The Ground is perhaps one of the most endearing tunes written in the last three decades. It needs the only the lightest of gestures to blossom. It should bring a smile and tear to every face. This was beautiful, but it was cold.

Wow! What can a pleb like me say in answer to that? At the end of the day the perfect performance of this work would be that conducted by Ola Gjeilo not you. This is an interpretation by the conductor so it is neither right or wrong. I want to hear a superb choral performance and that has been achieved.

I like the other version of bel canto when they sung this piece. The entrances of choir are not clear. As if something is holding them back and dragging the entire performance. I guess it has something to do with the way the conductor conducts this piece. I can't feel the emotions of this particular performance.

Referring to the composition and not the performance, this piece runs out of steam. It also tends to be a bit cloying and sentimental. As for the performance, this choir is much better than the other version by the Bel Canto group. While the soprano section was weak, the soprano section of the other performance was flat on the high notes. Also, this conductor shaped phrases better than the other one. He also got a much more nuanced sound from the choir. That being said, however, neither choirs were outstanding. The composition and the performance were disappointing.
