Dany wrote this song as a last minute homework project while at Berkley College.. She has said in interviews that she gets teary eyed when she hears the crowd sing it back to her. I think she was 14 or 15 when she wrote this.

This is one of the few old songs the keep bringing back to onto the set list for their shows. It may be because of what it means to Danny, It may be a fan favorite, or it’s a fan favorite because the fans know it means something to Danny. Dany is so talented. Her vocals are ridiculous in this one. Simple but powerful. These 3 just never ever disappoint. I love the rest of the song after the lead in by Dany...but I could have just had that the entire song and been happy. Written at Berklee College of Music by an extremely homesick Dany when she was 15 and desparately needing last minute inspiration to write a song as a solo homework assignment (which is why there are no harmony vocals). Great reaction! I cringed when you paused just as Dany went into her solo, but then you redeemed yourself by backing it up to the beginning. This song was written by a very homesick 15-year-old Dany when she was far from home in a summer program at the Berklee College of Music, and she had an assignment to write a song, and she was just feeling so bad missing her home and her friends, so that, late at night mere hours before the assignment was due, she still had nothing. Then she just reached down into her feelings and came up with this masterpiece!

Hearing Dany sing at Tetro Metropolitan is amazing but the biggest challenge would be the altitude of Mexico City. Her ability to hold those high notes without cutting them off early or just hearing her winded. It is an incredible performance, I love this band❤.

@@eaglezone45 I saw a clip of her doing a quick "get pumped" workout just before a performance - she dropped to the floor and did 10 quick "man-style" military pushups - none of that "knees touching" silliness. Girl stays in SHAPE. They all do - Pau practices her singing while running on a treadmill so that she has the duration and wind to play drums and sing at the same time!

It is work regardless of elevation, age etc. Singers have to get in singing shape. Back in the mid 80s, Paul Rodgers, one the best rock singers ever, spent two weeks rehearsing with the rest of the band (The Firm, featuring Jimmy Page) 6 hours a night working the show into shape. He would spend a couple of hours at the piano playing and singing by himself. I would spend every hour i could inside the arena bowl working so i could hear it. I grew up on Bad Company and Free so i would have paid for the privilege.

Yeah it's funny because I remember your reaction to this song specifically for how Pau catches your ear with her Hi Hat work in the verse, as usual.! I also head tilt along with Pau everytime I listen to this song. I think it didn't hit ya right away because Dany opens the song solo a bit longer, if I remember right. I love the guitar solo in this song. Like most of Danny's solos, it's not that it's amazingly fast or super technical, but it fits the song perfectly. Emppu, the guitarist for Nightwish, does the same thing, plays a solo for the benefit of the song, not to show off.

However, if you get a chance, take a moment, hit play and sit back and just experience this moment. Picture a teenage Dany, far from home at a music school in Boston and homesick, solitary and struggling with her muse, and the need to be creative on call. This incredible song is the result. I LOVE the low end tone of Danys singing voice ! Its low but still very feminine and for some reason I dint even understand its very pleasing and different to my ear. Saw them live a couple months ago. Something interesting. While pau & ale are very tight. Ale is NEVER out of time. On the rare occasion that Pau or Dany seemed to get a little bit off, they dropped in w/ Ale. I think that is one of their key sound signatures. The drummer is not the main time keeper. It's the Bassist. She is also deadly accurate on her notes. I went with a friend who was a pro bassist. He said she did not miss a note all night.

You are right, Ale is the main time keeper, their sisters call her "the human metronome", Pau once said she's like a machine😂. She has also perfect pitch (absolute hearing). All the above is kind of annoying for their older sisters sometimes because they said she's correcting them all the time🤣😂 She's a musical prodigy, Spector featured artist since she was a child (13 years old), she can play piano, saxophone and sing lead (even when she does not like it). And yeah, your friend is right, if you can catch a couple of wrong notes from Ale in a whole concert, you got a lucky day. She's a perfectionist, and she practices that much that she can play that bass in her sleep😂

It's absolutely fantastic to realize TW's songs are full of gorgeous detail. How do they have such a full sound... as if they were 50 or 60 instruments? well, here is the answer: When producer DAvid Bendeth took them in his hands, he put them to play and told them "you girls, sound great individually, but you have to learn to sound as a unit" and he trained them for that... that's why they sound like one and so tied together. ...they learned to assemble their individual talents into one

Notice when she started the song she was alone with one light only on her. She sang the song alone all by herself ( no backups singers) and when the song ends again only one light on her. This shows how much thought they in there performance.

Pau mentioned that even though she is the drummer, Ale has better timing than her, that she is like a machine and also that Ale has perfect pitch, so technically speaking she may be the best out of the three. Also the fadeout at the end is perfect considering the lyrics "When I'm Alone".

Concerning the opening lighting design... the opening lines in the song Dany sings that she only sees in black and white. That blue colour bleeds out the colour like the blue tone in old b+w TVs. It looks more black and white than a white light would. Also, others have told you where you've heard the song before... Its slightly reworked from how they did it years ago. When they overhauled Enter Sandman a couple years ago I figured that maybe a few years from now they could do an album re-imagining all their early work. The song writing was all there, as this performance shows, but their arranging and performance skills are still developing. Who knows where they could go. (they could also use the idea to satisfy any contractual obligations, lol)

I think The Warning have rearranged the rhythm section compared to their 2017 TEDX show. Pau was more on the cymbals then. Ale has taken her bass to the next level here. Both siblings more mature & tight like unbelievable.

This song has been modified since then, where it is just Dany and her guitar until the 2nd verse. All the much better and emotional, in my opinion. I am sure there are a few songs from this concert which you have not reacted to, but songs you have already done a reaction to like Animosity, Dust to Dust, Choke, Enter sandman, to name a couple. To me it looks like there may be two spots, one directly overhead, and one further forward. And yeah, she does a really good job portraying the emotion that the song represents. It's vaguely possible that the song still chokes her up after all these years, but she's a good enough performer that I suspect it's deliberate. Either way, it's certainly effective. "How do you make two instruments sound like it's sixty instruments?" That's *mostly* basic soundboard stuff (amplification, reverb, etc.) in combination with a good full arrangement (guitars are, after all, capable of hitting several notes at once, albeit not at the same extreme level as a keyboard instrument); but I think there are times when they also use some layering (pre-recorded parts playing underneath as a backing track). And yeah, this song doesn't really show her off to maximum effect, but Pau is one of the best drummers I know about, and also quite a good vocalist. I would absolutely love to see her do a collab with Layne Stein and/or Adam Rupp, with a drum/beatbox duet (or trio) for the bridge.
