I am glad very few Irish people are like you. I never said I was better, I said my family has contributed a lot to Irish society. My parents work their asses off, as do most immigrants (taking jobs that are ''beneath'' most people). However, many people just drink themselves stupid every weekend and many are on the dole for no reason. I am none of those racial profiles nor am I a ''Prod''. My point is that it makes no matter what ethnicity you are or religion, all can contribute if you let them.

Its more complex than that. For years Catholics,who considered themselves Irish or Northern Irish, suffered discrimination at the hands of the unionist government in housing,government,jobs,and law. Put yourself in their shoes, the government your paying taxes too, is impeaching your civil rights. Nowadays the Union flag is seen as a symbol of sectarianism in Northern Ireland. By removing the flag, it marks a symbol of better things to come. A northern Ireland, not Republic, and not British.

What makes you think that I don't live in a violent area already? This violence wouldn't have started if the flag didn't get taken down in the first place. I've never heard any Catholics complaining about that flag, it was a completely unneccessary act. They should be using their time to sort out the economy and get rid of the dissidents.

Highland scots yes but not lowland scots whom are the ones who populated ulster. They are mainly germanic/anglo saxon in origin. And thus not native.

Munster, Leinster, Connacht and Ulster are the Provinces of Ireland Northern Ireland part of the UK, which incorporates England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland England,Scotland & Wales are Britain, collectively called so because they are on the island of Britain. Northern Ireland is split( and I'm explaining this in layman's terms) 2 community's, Catholics, are descended from the galic Irish natives( and most of the Catholics Here want a united Ireland) and protestants, who are defended from Scottish and English colonizers who were brought over during the plantations(most Protestants want to remain in the union with Britain) just thought I'd clear that up for all the yanks and Brits...... I'll try and put this simply. It's not the countries flag at all its the colonists flag. Northern Ireland was inhabited by Irish people for thousands of years. The colonists called Ulster-Scots have only been here for 400. It's the flag of invaders . And the Native americans certaintly weren't happy when Europeans came in took their lands did they? how do you think the Irish feel?.

Making a new flag never works; that is why it is hardly ever done. The Loyalists want the Union Flag because of what it stands for: The Union. The notion that you can take the Loyalists/Unionists and the Nationalists/Republicans and say, "Let's have a new flag." is absurd. Maybe in another universe, but not this one.

Caffatude Northern ireland may have been part of Ireland before but it doesn't have independence. They are still ruled by the U.K where as the rest of the isle is the REPUBLIC of Ireland so it's independence is what they want

First of the flag is only hung outside westminister on designated days so why should it be be flown in the north all year round? And bombing civilians? The IRA weren't the only side to bomb , the Ulster Volunteers let of the worse bomb in the troubles causing the most deaths. If NI parliament is part of Britain it should fly the flag on the designated days like wesminister and not get special treatment.
