Thank you for posting, I enjoyed this video. The competition part was incredible. If that's your dog, great job. Mals are incredible dogs. I love our Mal and it is my opinion that these are the sweetest, best temperament, unstoppable work ethic, gorgeous, most protective, smartest, most agile, silliest dogs on the planet. They are awesome!

Some stupid bitch tried to convince me that Belgian Malinos are not pets. I tried to say that any well trained dog can be a family dog, but she ended up blocking me. Nice to see that you're proving her wrong. My next door neighbor used to own a male Malinois named Max years ago in the early 1990s. He said that he was one of the most hyperactive dogs he ever owned, but also one of the most loyal and trusting. Also, when he got the Malinois, he also owned a female German Shepherd named Skylar and both dogs fell in love with each other and were pretty much inseparable! Max wouldn't leave her alone.

These are great dogs. I mountain bike in remote areas. My Mal goes with me. She is not afraid to take the point position. That is perfect. All she would need to do is warn me. She is the most aware dog I have ever seen. Never be heavy handed training these dogs. If they do wrong distract them don't punish harshly. Bond with them and they will try and do what you want.

so you would turn away a black or "grey" mal because the color is not desirable? This is AKC show talk, not working dog talk. There are MANY black and light fawn working dogs. Color has zero to do with work, and vice versa.

At 2:21, Mr. Balabanov states, "Appearance is secondary to the Working Ability and Health!" I don't think a working dog trainer/breeder of this caliber judges anything on appearance alone.

I think a lot of you are missing the point of this video, Ivan is not saying that color defines a dog. Clearly he states that Appearance is behind working and health. I can understand the point of wanting a range of colors that are acceptable. I used to like the typical tan coloring with black face but I really like the darker mal's now. But of course Work and Health come first in any aspect.

why is it not desireable for them to have white markings extended up to neck? Is it about some genetic illnes or just because it is not approved by kennel club?

No illnesses. Just looks/standards set by the Kennel Club. Pretty lame if you ask me.

Experience is simply knowing what this young pup is gonna do and NOT over react. Since I've have three the first one taught me what to expect at each growth stage. The boy go thru a nipppy-playful stage so I'm CERTAIN NOT to correct him but to simply gently hold him by both sides of his leather collar with eye contact while gently saying 'no.' Just like a child going thru the tantrum stage but the pup is NOT challenging but playing and so pushing. We want this trait so do not want to suppress. Hope this helps. Very, very very time consuming labor of respect and love. Corny, I know but that really expresses what's going on.

+Poop Cheto yeah? The GSD is amazing and a bad ass. But mals live to work. Their breed also is destroyed (yet) due to poor breeding. Respect to both dogs because I own both but my mal is way more dedicated to work.
Working line gsds are equal to or better than the Mal in many ways(if we are speaking of versatility). They are capable of doing many more types of work. Agility wise, both would be around the same but it would depend on the dog. Typically a Mal would be faster because of its slimmer body where the Gsd would be stronger.
@eyebleached7 жыл бұрын
That has nothing to do with the video. It's about Malinois COLORS not "GSD vs Mal" smh.

Great dog. I still prefer the classic German shepherd over it tho. This dog seems to have fun biting, as the German shepherd only has one thing on its mind. WORK
@LongRangeDesertGroupX10 жыл бұрын
Clearly you've never worked with Malinois's before if you don't think they work. Its hard to find a solid good working GSD these days, thats why Police and Military are getting more and more Mal's and not as many GSD's.

many dog breeds should be "accepted" as color variable in "standards" because they simply are. I dont understand why they separated the white german sheperd from the oficial german sheperd. If you llok at the border collies, they can be of any color (and I really mean ANY color), hair lenght and many ear position. Do british shepperd care? No, as long as the dog is the most intelligent and hard working breed in the world.

its what's between the ears , not the colour , if you start to breed solely for confirmation you can lose the strong nerve and excellent drives that make a Malinois what it is, realizing that you need a balance between confirmation and mental strength and using only the best dogs for breeding, there are plenty of poor dogs with working titles.
@castiel24110 жыл бұрын
If you breed for looks you will get a weak dog. Breed for intelligence and character and you'll get a good dog. Drives are a completely useless man made saying. It is stupid to think of a dog as a mindless creature that should bite and allow the enemy to batter them while they hold on.
@ForbiddenCatBelly10 жыл бұрын
Typically, those bites would cause enough shock to incapacitate a target immediately (broken bones, excessive blood loss, general pain). Why do you think drives are illegitimate? They merely describe behavioral tendencies.
@AdamTyler31210 жыл бұрын
"Drives are a completely useless man made saying??" you have no clue what your talking about. yes they have drives called defense and prey, and you can say fight drive. If you know anything about working lines you would have to know this..
