Even though I left the school awhile ago, I still think this is a very interesting topic, and I have learned a lot!

Honestly, I'm surprised it took Belgium this long - it's an obvious impediment to learning. I also think it's interesting to also hear a Japanese perspective, where Michiko says that phones shouldn't be banned so that kids can learn self-control. It's so wildly different from our culture in Western Europe, which is certainly more selfish, and I guess there's a message in there somewhere. When you travel on public transport, or see kids at fast food restaurants, you see they spend their time buried in their phones, now and then showing their screen to their friends so they can have a giggle. I wonder what happened to the trend for young people to move away from smartphones and back to dumb phones, but I think Guns is the one who says it best - it's a drug, especially how addictive social media is for young minds. Great video as always!

One of the problems might also be that everyone needs to be 'reachable' in some way: for work, for school,... A lot of things have been digitalized as well, and there is some mobile version available to keep it on your phone in your pocket. At times you might be 'forced' into using social media because otherwise you miss out or you are not up to date with whatever is happening in your circle for practicalities. Before you know it, you're sucked into it 😆

It was fun to make the music for this one! 🤪I snuck a few phone related things in the music, as well as a couple of other little surprises.. can anyone find them all?

You can certainly hear that interference noise that you used to hear if you kept your phone next to your stereo - haha :)

This is a big problem - children and mobile phones. Psychological dependence, inability to process large amounts of information, difficulty concentrating, poor eyesight, poor posture in the long run... I could go on and on. There is already a new tendency: children use mobile phones at night with all the consequences . Banning mobile phones in schools is a good start, but not a solution of the problem. We should start to teach children from primary school all about the use of mobile phones . This will be a good basis for the proper use of mobile phones in the future.

Interesting point... Children nowadays also get their own phone at a very early age as well. I don't know if teaching about the 'proper use' of a phone would actually do anything, maybe give some awareness. I think eventually people will get bored and tired of it, and the usage will decrease as a result.

My high school in Aalst already banned it when phones could only text and call. I don't think they changed it now.

I am surprised, because I don't think banning phones was a common practice in schools back then! I guess your school was ahead of the game 🙂

Fact that Smartphones were never really allowed in schools here in India is another thing altogether.
@PerkyPavlaАй бұрын
It seems like India has not banned the smartphones from schools on a national level. Several states have, but it also depends on the type of school (government/private). Interesting!

I live in American if this was implented that would be terrible not because phones definitly are a distraction but because of school shootings. My country is so fucked up
@SatJunkАй бұрын
@@van7915 I'm not from the US but this is sad to hear. I can understand the priorities would be different with the constant emergency situation.. I don't even understand how students function with that constantly in the news. So much anxiety for young people to process. :(
