I’m American and with USA not qualified, months prior to this World Cup, I picked Belgium as my team for the tournament. Never knew how emotionally invested I would become rooting for another country! But this team was so special. Even as an American I felt a tiny sliver of heartbreak when they went out. A spectacle game played by the Belgium cool heads! For the performance showcased by Belgium in this WC they deserve at least the 3rd place now and they have won it!!! Beautiful passes, great pace by Belgium and the very first goal's in the 4th minute! England did pass the ball around okay but failed to score. What a great save by Alderweireld to deny Dier! The second Belgium goal at the 82nd minute was fantastic as well. Englands defence didn't stand a chance against Belgium today. They were just fantastic to watch. Too bad there are no more games for Belgium to play in this WC. But never the less they've earned 3rd place. Well done Belgium! Pete :")

Belgium are a fantastic side who play some great football, but england were shit at the back today, look at how england lost the ball in midfield so easy for the first goal not marking a single player when belgium were in possession, look at the space the england defender gave Chadli to hit that cross in, there was at least a meter and half,, the england defender didnt even try to get close , and make it difficult, then once the cross was passed in, look at the two england defenders marking fresh air leaving a small wing back to deal with it, there was only 1 threat in the box, thous centre backs should of been watching out for runners into the box before the cross had even happened not ball watching. As for the second goal you had 7 england players up against 3 belgium players in attack, 3 of the english players were marking the guy who made the pass to hazard, what are all thous english player doing not one of them made a attempt to tackle the player, also look at the defender who had his back to hazard when the ball was played through, that english player knew he was there and knew that he was going to make a run , why didnt he mark hazard like he should of done, instead of trying to cut out a pass that wasnt even that dangerous if he had been marking hazard in the first place, also if he had the intelligent he could pulled of a offside trap, but he didnt he kept both belgiums players onside and didnt even mark hazard what was he doing. I am not saying england are a better team than belgium but thous were soft goals to give away, the old england teams wouldnt of made thous mistakes

Fun fact: Belgium tied a record by having ten separate goalscorers. Only France '82 (fourth place) and Italy '06 (champions) also accomplished this feat. Of course I wish Belgium could have taken the whole thing, but for a country the size of Maryland, I'm sure third place will be a nice alternative for many. Sometimes, you take what you can get. I Get what you mean though, but Croatia's effort in that regard ever since the WC of 98 - bloody loved that team (Boban, Suker, Jarni,...) - is far greater than ours. Harry 289 I'm Belgian but I don't agree. They have the skills to be in that final indeed. But they played the too often witnessed ""relax tomorrow is another day" way in the second half to France. Too little input, conviction and running, costing them the final. It's nothing new. French defense was good the other day.. credit where it's due. Having said that, Belgium was prolific this tournament. Taking nothing away from Croatia, the way the Red Devils have played led by the Legend of Hazard, heartbreaking that Belgium v. France was destined to be a semi and not the final.
