I think sounding good is the purpose of autotune :P I guess the problem is more that people feel like their idols are kind of "fooling" them when they discover they use autotune... aha, your voice is not THAT good!!! Liar!!! I think autotune is a good fit for nowadays pop music where everything is artificial, from the look of the singers to the music, but that's not bad by itself. Depending on the song I really like the electronic taste. It's just it doesn't fit every style.
