It had 2 major problems = 1, ITV aired it on a Sunday night at 10.00pm, a slot which used to be home to Spitting Image and New Statesman, but by 2002 was tired, redundant and weak. 2, It aired in the summer months of July/August 2002, when people were away on holidays, and ITV was in their weakest season of the year.

@dougaldouglas8842 Believe Nothing was made in 2002, with a Labour government in power. When he did Alan B'stard, it was a conservative government in power. No, this was just the poor structure of ITV at the time which was collapsing.

As elsewhere few comment-posters seem to have ever heard of the many ultra-subversive 'Comic Strip Presents' cult masterpieces - many actors out-perform even Mayall. See 'Eat the Rich', "Supergrass", "GLC"..and many more rebellious gems that would never get funding, backers or TV air-time in today's Orwellian nightmare world... Paul G

Rik is an Amazing Actor. In this case there was poor direction, poor scripting, poor supporting actors. I have to respect the fact that somebody attempted to resurrect Rik's amazing past by attempting a fusion of new statesman and bottom, but it wasn't put together great, it just doesn't work. Its so sad that this absolute genius of a man wasn't given something equal or better than new statesman or had support from Ade to make something great. But there you go. Ade turned his back on it all, to busy farming and making pies and Rik just didn't get the writers he deserved. Still we have the new statesman, bottom, young ones and filthy rich to watch over and over. Never to be forgotten, Rik, I know you wanted to give more and the world wanted it!!

This is much better than Bottom which is for the most part slapstick and juvenile humour.
@davidbaines14257 жыл бұрын
I think the casting is well done. His sidekick is very good. Rik Mayall has been given a role that he does so well, without the tragic loserness. It is great to see him be so arrogant. The plots can be a bit silly, but no more than The Young Ones, or Bottom, you expect it. I wish it had been continued. It has some great and intelligent writing and laughs. By the same people who wrote The New Statesman I believe. But if you like watching Rik Mayall being Rik Mayall, it is definitely worth watching.
