As someone who’s worn probably 20-30 iterations since 1996 - Zoom (originally Tensile Air) is arguably Nike’s greatest cushioning innovation. Full stop. And for its responsiveness, there’s a case to be made that it’s unmatched in footwear. In “Max” form, the drawback has always been the high weight, board flatness, and stiffness… but hey, at least they’re not flat anymore!😄 It’s been years since they’ve done a full Max midsole. Think Nike is loosing a lot of runners within the everyday training shoes space. As many people as I run with, I hardly ever see people with Nike shoes.
@Ryan_TinneyАй бұрын
Do you feel the Nike shoes lagging are due to all of the paid influencers on KZbin and other social media? Is it the paid bonuses to the running shoe stores to push certain brands? When I see a runner that does not consume any of the industry paid content, they are usually running in Nike or Brooks.
@georgesoto5436Ай бұрын
@@Ryan_Tinney that’s a very thoughtful question, and can only speak to the few running shoe influencers that I follow (Believe in The Run, Kofusi, Doctors of Running and some others). Unless, we’re all being lied to, they say they don’t get any funds directly from these shoe companies and I don’t have a reason not to believe them. Quite honestly, I just think Nike is a massive company behind most major sports that they don’t really feel they need to innovate and compete with the Topo Athletic or other lesser known brands, which is why I think they’re behind these other companies in the innovation department.
@yianpap6093Ай бұрын
@@georgesoto5436 I'm not sure they are behind in the innovation department, given more than half of marathon runners run in Nike's. But otherwise I agree. But what I think is more at play here, is people who see themselves as "enthusiasts", or more than casual runners, tend to avoid Nike because it has such a large fashion side to it so "it can't be a real/serious running shoe". So they want to signal they're serious runners and in the know:)
@yianpap6093Ай бұрын
@@Ryan_Tinney Could it be just that Nike and Brooks are the two most traditional brands that they know and trust and go for those with no second thought (thus dismissing other possibly better alternatives)? Makes you wonder though, news outlets(paid in one way or another) also push news selectively. Do they influence the views of people about what's really happening in the world, who they vote for, etc? You bet!
@palmyarmyswimАй бұрын
@yianpap6093 surely you have to admit innovation at lagged in the training space. The invincible 3, the infinity run, peg 40 and the turbo is just sitting where it left off before the nature. The zoom fly 6 could/should of been the 5. Nike should be the best, there whole brand is about it. Half of marathon runners may run in the alphas/vapor flys- but these runners are not training in Nikes, but would in a heart beat if given something decent. The zoom fly 6 was a better start but needs to be under 300g to be market leading- i assume the 7 will be. The peg premium is a new offering but isn't a serious training option given better choices.

Let’s be real here Zoom Air or Air Max can’t compete with today’s supercritical foam, pebax foam, etc for running. In a sense for basketball or lifestyle shoes sure but Nike definitely needs to keep Air technology in the vaults. After a couple of mile, the pods in my Pegasus 39 ain’t doing anything at that point. I really never see anybody wearing these shoes out in public at all and I think it’s because nobody wants to walk around on marshmallows. In my opinion that shoe has way too much thickness under foot. It almost reminds me of when Lugs shoes used to be cool. Honestly, I don’t think this is innovation at all because stacking material upon material just to get comfort is an innovation that’s laziness if you ask me great video though thanks for the review, but anybody can have insane cushioning with that thickness underfoot. We need the old DMX cushioning from Reebok back and Nike should look into that cushioning Tech and maybe improve on it somehow.

@FusePBАй бұрын
@@Believeintherun That's a narrow minded research question answered. How is that research combined with real world data of those who do even a mild amount of resistance training focused on "running" muscles? Resistance training has thousands of peer reviewed articles demonstrating the protective nature of it. Protective factors in this category would logically allow you to be okay with a slightly heavier shoe than average. From an evolutionary standpoint, we were never meant to wear shoes at all. Have we just gotten used to shoes of a certain weight, and if they exceed that subjectivity it starts to ruin your "running economy" and nothing can be done? hmmm
@yianpap6093Ай бұрын
That was a rhetorical question, right? I would bet big money that the huge majority of people willing to watch running shoe review videos, are indeed allergic to lifting! As for 50 grs of weight difference making a noticeable difference in running economy for an average runner, yeah, I sincerely doubt it. The physics are surely more complicated than "would logically ", and elite, fine-tuned athletes will feel it, but the average person reading here will almost certainly not have their economy altered. Their psychology though yes (wow, it is so light, I have a "pro" shoe!) and this will enhance their enjoyment and may lead to PB's. A foam that returns a lot of energy and keeps the legs fresh will make a lot more difference than 50grs less, that's what my intuition says.
